320 of Pennsylvania's most abundant or notable bird species are color-illustrated in this handy, comprehensive field guide. A Quick Reference Guide organizes all species into color-coded family groupings. You'll also find a glossary of terms, a birder's checklist and separate indexes for scientific and common names. A map features the state's best birding sites and describes Pennsylvania's most notable viewing locations. Each species account includes a full-colour and detailed illustration, along with information about habitat, nesting, feeding, voice, similar species, as well as a range map that shows distribution of the species throughout the year as well as migratory pathways.

This is a very good overview of the birds of the Keystone State. It won't replace your primary field guide, but the art is excellent. The text is interesting and the authors add fascinating tidbits of information about the species they are discussing. The list of birding hot spots is a bonus.

My grandfather is a bird watcher but his books were old. He told me he really likes the pictures of the birds and the reference system to find the birds.
