Reviewed by Elise Towner for Readers' Favorite Birth of an American Gigolo by Deek Rhew is an entertaining story of a woman scorned by a cheating husband with his secretary, and who plans her revenge in a unique and surprising way. The story had me guessing what would happen next. I am pleased to say, I was not disappointed with the results. I found a connection with the main character, Lindsey, and related with the earth loving hippie secretary, Cindie, of whom the pompous husband was so fond. This story has a nice flow and while reading I often laughed out loud, especially during the training session of the dauntingly handsome, yet extremely naïve Dios and his trainer, Lindsey, aka domesticated goddess. I must honestly say Deek Rhew has a unique way of telling a story in Birth of an American Gigolo. It is rare for a man to be able to tell a convincing story from a woman’s perspective regarding her cheating husband, yet I found that Deek did an amazing job. I forgot I was reading a book written by a man. The love scenes are steamy, yet tastefully written. The only character that did not quite fit into the story and caught me off guard was Angel. However, as I read on, the timing of her entry into the plot was a little twist that set the rest of the story off, and what a sweet revenge it was indeed. This story read like a stage play. If you like Same Time Next Year, you will really enjoy Birth of an American Gigolo.
A new twist on the cheating husband theme. Lindsey finds herself taking a stand and creating a most unusual way to not only get back at him but provide a means of financial support for herself. Honestly I loved how she reacted to finding the proof on her cheating husband and her reaction was perfect. It made one want to cheer and say "So there! Take that!". Her creative solution to lack of money, well that is a most unusual way to take care of oneself. A part of me balked at her boy toy and at first my mind was resistant to the storyline but as I read further into story the author created interest by the introduction of her girlfriends and showing the point of view of the boy toy which changed my mind about his involvement. This book pace is steady and though the theme may not be for all people I give it 4 STARS. A copy was gifted in exchange for an honest review
This book is fresh, fun and flirty .. it also encompasses a satisfying revenge plot. Don’t get me wrong I’m not a spiteful person but when you read about Cindie the tree-hugging, vomit inducing goody two-shoes mistress there will be a slightly smug reaction. Lindsey is married to Stewart .. Lindsey is an ex-party girl turned domestic goddess .. Stewart is boring and mundane. How he ever got into an affair is beyond me. Anyway .. as previously mentioned he is playing around with the hideous Cindie and understandably Lindsey is not too impressed. Any ‘normal’ woman may tell him where to go but that wouldn’t make a story would it! So, while the man is away the lady of the house decides she needs a little action of her own to secure her financial status .. enter Dios the hunky stallion love-god .. once Lindsey sets her sights on him the plot thickens .. it becomes quite amusing as she ‘trains’ her toy boy to a level where she can use him in her new escort business. I won’t go into the details of how he is connected to the story or it will spoil the ending. Look out for the sickening crunch of the scooter .. I almost felt Lindsey’s satisfaction at that point! This kept me entertained and I read it in one sitting .. the only part where my mind wandered a little were the Angel segments .. I didn’t think she added much to the book but that is simply personal preference. I liked some of the other characters more. Certainly an author to keep an eye on and I will be interested to see what he comes up with next. Many thanks to the author and Tenacious Books for the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest opinion.
