About the Author
An adventuress and traveler, Simone is a sensual being who loves to read stories that excite her. She takes exception to authors who promote their works as ‘dirty’, ‘filthy’, or ‘smutty’: She believes that sex is wonderful in all of its incarnations, and doesn’t shy away from graphic descriptions of realistic sexual experiences, no matter how messy. Her writing is mainly in the ‘literary realism’ style – i.e., it is wild (even outrageous) … but could really happen to you! She values openness in relationships, and demonstrates this through her characters. Prior to becoming an author, Simone was a nurse. One of her pet peeves is reading erotica that gets simple anatomy wrong! She is continually bewildered by women who haven’t explored their own bodies. Another pet peeve is the mostly hung-up Victorian society prevalent in the U.S., and she tries her hardest to change that by introducing people to new sexual and sensual experiences through her erotic writing. The activities in Simone’s books are quite realistic, as she has participated in most of these in ‘real life’, as surreal as it may seem. Simone is currently completing the Experiences series, which will run an estimated 1,000,000 words! That is why she refers to it as an ‘epic’ romance, although each volume is intended to stand on its own, with a ‘happy for now’ ending. Experiences is an attempt to combine literary style and philosophical discussion by the characters with graphic portrayal of sex in all of its kinks and fetishes. You may not like all of the things Simone’s characters do … but neither do they. Their exploration of new experiences will hopefully motivate some readers to explore their own sexuality to a greater extent. Simone loves to hear from her readers, so feel free to contact her. In fact, she hopes you will feel ‘free’ sexually and spiritually, as well. Please follow her on social media and her blog. On her website, you may interact directly with the main characters in her books, including asking them questions in order to understand their perspectives in more depth.

Happy Naughty Birthday! Book four and it's just as hot and sexy as the others in the series! Sam and Kelly invite her friends for some special games, increasing the connection between Sam and Kelly, the unlikely couple. The continuous connection and openness, that brings trust into their relationship is broadened. The entire series surrounds their love for their fantasies and fetishes play a major part in their love for each other, and how it grows, into more intimacy. Recommended to those who don't blush with the deep exploration of dark BDSM fetishes and fantasies.
Birthday Experience is the third book (fourth if you count the prequel novella) in the “Experiences” series. I previously read and reviewed the first book, First Experience, and the second book, Weekend Experience. I enjoyed both of the previous books, so I was curious about the next book. In this installment, Kelly’s twenty-fifth birthday is coming up. Sam invites a few of her friends and hosts a party for her birthday, complete with a theme, games, and the atmopshere the reader is used to in this books: one of openness, adventure, and exploring sexual experiences. Sam has planned most of it, including some games that will push the boundaries of the other guests, and in particular Kelly’s boundaries and courage. To any reader, it’ll be obvious how different Kelly and Sam are. Kelly is a young woman, Sam is an older widower, old enough to be her father in fact. And whereas the series starts out with a mutual attraction between the two of them, and them deciding to take things further and have some fun, it’s now clear that there’s something more between Kelly and Sam than just being attracted to one another. They share a deeper connection, a more intimate relationship. They’re on a journey together, to find themselves, to learn more about the other, to explore the edge of their own desires. It’s not just Kelly learning from Sam anymore – Sam learns a great deal from her as well. And it’s this relationship, this bond, that forms the core of this book, and that makes it unique and different from other books in the same genre. Of course there’s also fun, BDSM, role-playing, fantasies, and all that, and while there’s definitely an erotic element, the focus is on intimacy, trust, openness. Writing is, as usual, quite good. The plot is imaginative and creative, and even the secondary characters come across as real people. This is an enjoyable and entertaining read, but more than anything, it’ll make the reader think about boundaries, about intimacy, about the meaning of love, of bonds, of the unique relationship people can have with one another. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Once again, I am here to review another book from Simone Freier, and the next book in the “Experience” series. I have been thoroughly surprised at how much I have enjoyed this series so far, considering I am not normally a fan of this type of story, but Simone keeps writing, and I keep grabbing them up! We once again find ourselves following the lives of Sam and Kelly, their once new and exciting relationship keeps changing. Maturing, yes, but not necessarily becoming less exciting. Since it is Kelly’s birthday, Sam decides to experiment with an entirely different type of kinks: With an entirely different group of people. The introduction of Kelly’s close friends to Sam and Kelly’s “games” obviously opens up an entire new world to the couple, and to the readers. Role playing and playing out fantasies are only some of the experiences that are explored in this volume. As with the rest of the series, this was a very compelling read. It’s not one of those books that is shocking for shock’s sake: The erotic parts of the story tell a larger picture of the relationship that is evolving in this series. It is very interesting to see these characters learning about each other, and how their experiences (pun intended!) shape them as characters. Another great addition to Simone’s already impressive catalog.
As I suspected, Simone Freier's third book, "Weekend Experience" was not the last one of the series. It still follows the intricate relationship between Kelly and Sam, two people who are open enough with each other to experiment in BDSM and other dominant/submissive exploits. Again, what I really like about these books is the attention to emotional detail between the two characters, both while they are together and when they each are alone to mentally go through what had just happened. These moments have such strong writing and that is what I found myself liking the most. Freier also kept with the back-and-forth narration style that I absolutely loved in the third book. It was so great to see each character's perspective, and compare them against their counterpart to see what was REALLY happening, not just the physical explanation. It helped continue to push the series past the superficial, surface level plot that many books of this genre fall into. I really appreciated the candid-ness about the fragility of such relationships, and it definitely made the book seem more real. However, and maybe this is because I have read the past couple of books in the “Experiences” series, the plot gets a little repetitive. Just like the 50 Shades of Grey series that made this genre socially popular, the plot thinned out by this book. It is very difficult to keep an active reader into Book 4 of ANY genre, but especially so for this series since it talks about much of the same things throughout all of the books. Simone Freier tries really hard to combat this by introducing new characters and expanding on characters introduced in previous books, but I sometimes felt that I was re-reading scenes from the past books--it just seemed to be caught in a pattern that is hard for me to get fully engrossed in. If you liked her other books in the series, then this falls right into place in terms of expectations and what the book delivers. Just be aware that it is hard for ANY author to move past the 3rd and 4th book slump, and Freier made a very solid attempt to keep it exciting.
Author Does It Again In "Birthday Experiences" In “Birthday Experiences,” the fourth volume of Simone Freier's “Experiences” series, we find Kelly and Sam's relationship maturing. It is maturing to the point that they now say “I love you,” something that was only on the periphery of their relationship in the first three volumes of the series. Freier, a skillful author whose ability to create a compelling scene, a word-picture, if you will, is among best that we have seen in the many authors whose work we have reviewed in the last couple of years, again uses the world of sexual play as the canvas on which she continues to paint the relationship of Kelly and Sam. It is a relationship that one would never expect to work but it does. Why would Kelly, a beautiful young woman, who celebrates her 25th birthday in this volume of the series, even say the words “I love you” to a man old enough to be her father? Indeed, Kelly knows Sam's sons as she watched them play soccer when she was a child. A widower, Sam knows Kelly's parents as they are his friends and he knew her as a child. Now they are lovers and they plumb the depths of sexual fantasy and play using, among other things, the usual toolkit of paddles, flails, plugs and the many implements used in the world of BDSM (bondage, discipline, sadism and masochism). Are they true practitioners of BDSM? On the whole, they use it as a medium to explore not only the relationship that is developing but also in exploring themselves. Comfortable with their basic sexuality, the couple use the tools of BDSM to push their limits; to expand their life experience, and to just have some fun. Though Freier mentions the dom/domme relationship, many times, but always tangentially as it relates to Sam and Kelly, they are neither true practitioners of BDSM nor do they hide from it. They use the realm of BDSM to explore their fantasies and play out their fantasies. It is more like they are using BDSM as a GPS mapping device of their lives as a couple and their relationship. That relationship expands in “Birthday Experiences,” as Sam invites Kelly's four best friends to her 25th birthday party. It is a party that is full of surprises for both Kelly and her friends. It is also a party full of surprises for the reader. Of course, there participants engage in the basics that are associated with the world of sex play and fantasy such as spanking, wild fantasy role-play, some paddling and the like and they like it. However, if you look beyond the trappings, if you will, of the world in which Sam, Kelly and now her friends travel, you will see that “Birthday Experiences” is about far more than just sexual play and fantasy. At its basic level, the story of Kelly and Sam is as old as the hills. It is a dual story of a young woman, who, introduced to the world of sexual and fantasy play, begins to find herself. No it isn't a story about a young woman's travels to “find herself,” in the sense that she doesn't know who she is. Instead, it is a story about her growth as a person. Kelly, to be sure has her issues, but at heart, she is happy with the person that she has become as she has grown to become a woman. After meeting Sam and being pulled into the world of sexual play and fantasy, she begins to grow into not only a more sexually mature woman, but also a more aware woman, in general. The duality of their story is Sam's becoming. Sam, married to Margaret for many years, lost her about 5 years before he met Kelly, by chance, when he attended a party at a couple's home. Sam and Margaret were friendly with them before her passing. After meeting Kelly, he takes a chance and asks her to lunch and is attracted to her. He then takes a chance to see if she is interested in his world of fantasy and role-playing. Oh, she is and more, much more. Indeed, they are on their way to becoming a pair of explorers, if you will, who not only explore the world of BDSM, but also themselves. Kelly's growth is explored as is Sam's coming out of his lonely existence, putting away his love for his late wife and finding that he could love again. He becomes a bigger man as Kelly becomes a bigger woman. They click on many levels. The people they encounter in their search, Fiona and Alex, Julie, Kathy, Linda (Kelly's friends) not only become part of their lives but they also help them grow, especially Kelly's girlfriends at her birthday party. It is quite a birthday party, too, as you will find out if you read Simone Freier's fourth installment of the “Experiences” series. I have read many reviews of Freier's work and I believe that some of my colleagues in this world are missing the essential point of the author's work. They focus on the semi-pornographic nature that BDSM implies and the look at the work of the author with somewhat prurient eyes. They are like little children who, on finding a slightly racy or pornographic Blu-ray® disc in the video library of one of their parents, ogle at it while also going overboard about it. If they would take a look at the whole series and view it as a tapestry upon which a very skillful author paints a compelling picture of not only Kelly's growth, but also that of Sam and their relationship then they would begin to see what seems to me to be the more meaningful level that Freier is writing about.Though her topic might be somewhat offbeat, it is the medium she uses to create a skillfully written and powerful story whose characters are filled with life. Freier's characters have substance; they are three-dimensional, fully formed characters. It takes a talented author to create that type of character as well as a story that is larger than its plotline would suggest. I believe if you take it from this angle you will see that Simone Freier is an excellent author who knows how to use a topic to create a real and enjoyable story. Freier is an author who gets you to suspend your belief and accept her reality, for the time you are between the covers of “Birthday Experiences” or while you are enjoying your tablet. I just wonder, after all this, how Freier will top the first four volumes she has written. She has given herself an incredible challenge. I hope I get the chance to see how she pulls this off.
When Birthday Experience came out, I couldn’t wait to read it. I have read the other three novels and enjoyed them thoroughly. This series is not for children in anyway, it is pure adult fun. Some people may find this subject matter to be inappropriate, but we all do it and to me I like to live through other people’s experiences since I will never be able to explore like this group of friends. Simone is an excellent writer; she has the imagination I wish I did. This set of friends is entertaining as always and I truly enjoyed reading this Experience, as always.
The disclaimer of this book states: Beyond 50 Shades of Gray; Way Beyond. That headline intrigued me so much, I just had to purchase this one. I did not think that in any way possible anything could beat out 50 Shades in terms of adult content. Wow, was I wrong. Not only does Birthday Experience surpass 50 Shades, but the storyline itself is way more enjoyable and I found myself glued to every page in the book. Kelly is planning a birthday party; one that is sure to be an epic event for all involved. Sam, Kelly, and a few of Kelly's good friends are expected to show up for a good time. Each person at the party gets to experience new sensual experiences unlike anything they have ever experienced before. Sam has games planned, that push the limits of each character. The experience combines fantasy with reality, and Kelly's friends sure get their eyes opened to all of the new possibilities. In order to read this book and truly enjoy it, you need to have an open mind. I found it to be extremely sexy, and wanted to keep reading for more. It is well written, and neatly progresses. It combines sex, fantasy, and even romance, and is sure to open your eyes a bit more. If you enjoy any type of erotica, then this is a MUST have.
I try to leave first-person musings out of my reviews, but I need to make a caveat. As a reviewer and as a general reader, I do not enjoy romance or erotic fiction. At all. I’m somewhat prudish to begin with, and on top of that I feel that sex in literature is often an obstacle between me and the more interesting parts of the plot. That said, it was with excitement that I pre-ordered the fourth Experience book, because Simone Freier has turned me on (pun intended) to a genre toward which I had always cast a judgmental eye. Over the course of the first three volumes, we have seen the relationship between Sam and Kelly grow into something in between love and lust, something which even Sam himself did not quite seem to understand. We have also seen them branch out in their adventurousness, going so far as to involve Kelly’s friends in their affairs. “Birthday Experience” ups the ante even more, as the freedom and lack of inhibitions shared by Sam and Kelly permeates the guests of Kelly’s birthday party. Sam and Kelly share a mutual interest in opening the minds of Kelly’s friends (especially Fiona, it would seem) and getting them to step outside of their comfort zone even more than in the last book. Kelly and Sam take a more equal footing in this installment, with Kelly taking over more of the narrative. This is a breath of fresh air, as it allows for increased perspective. It is as if the reader is a voyeur with two sets of eyes, each of them excitedly watching to see what happens next. The usual kinks (S&M and medical sex) are involved, but there is also role-playing, photography and more. Not only do Kelly’s friends grow in this novel, but Sam does as well. Sam has always had a fairly narrow definition of sex, which Kelly attempts to broaden in order to make for a better party. Kelly and Sam also continue their exploration into “making love” rather than just “having sex.” This is a very intriguing novel. For many, making love would be the norm, and the kinks would be the exploration. But for Sam and Kelly, it is the other way around. It has been exciting to watch these characters grow over the past four books, and I can only hope there will be more to follow.
