What an awesome story! It’s a novella so it is a short read but it does not fall short in excitement. The author has plans to do a five book series but I hope it continues well past the planned five. This first mystery brings the reader to a little town called Urchin Cove, which has so much potential for a long lasting series with its cast of characters residing in the town. The story introduces us to a few of the residents as the story progresses there are hints of so much more beneath the surface of it all! Just so you know, the main mystery of this story is solved. I was left feeling like I had read a complete book and cannot wait for more. The author has a great way of telling the story and the main character, Jericho, will forever be one of my favorites! The author sent me a copy of this story and this is my honest review. ***Review has been done in conjunction with Nerd Girl Official.***
This is a short novella, first in a series. I wasn’t sure what to expect but having a cat on the cover is enough to pique my interest! Once I found out he was called Jericho a huge feline with unique communication skills and the ability to be ‘top’ cat the story flowed. It is set in a small town, you know the sort where everyone knows your business before you do. Jericho lives with his human All, who is the new Veterinarian in town. All, obviously loves all creatures and has a mix come through his surgery to deal with. When there is a grisly murder the cops are investigating and missing vital clues. Jericho and his sidekick dogs have to sniff out the murderer, but can they do it alone? Who will believe them, does All listen to his ‘cat’ or will All be a suspect himself? Various members of the town show up with black eyes, bruises etc but it is all mysterious .. who is linked to who, what underground nasty events are being organised .. where are all the missing pets? When another body is revealed it seems there could be grudge killing involved. I particularly liked a scene which had the classic line “honey, are you really dead?” The subtle humour lightened the situation. This is a town full of suspense .. the old lady who must be a hundred if she’s a day could have an influence .. maybe! Once I got into this and figured out who all the characters are and got a grasp of the situation I really enjoyed the alternative way of story-telling. It is very descriptive and I could imagine I was in that area. I read it in one sitting and I’m now looking forward to the next in the series. I did note the reference to the dragon .. dragons are to be slayed! Huge thanks to Wren for offering me an ARC.
