Overview

Bittersweet Rain by Sandra Brown, Joyce Bean

Caroline Dawson survived the town gossips who whispered behind her back. She survived the slow death of her husband, Roscoe Lancaster, the richest man in the county and her senior by three decades. But she feared she might not survive Rink Lancaster, her husband's son. Years before she married, when she and Rink were teens, he had introduced Caroline to her first tremulous taste of love - and then broke her heart. Now Rink is back. He says he wants to settle his father's estate. But driven by a storm of emotions as undeniable as before and more dangerous than ever, what he really wants is to settle the score with Caroline.

My Synopsis: Bittersweet Rain by Sandra Brown Everybody said that Caroline Dawson, wouldn't amount to again. The daughter of the town drunk, she didn't have a chance. But, were they ever wrong. Thanks to a mysterious benefactor Caroline went to college and got a good job after returning home. Must to the chagrin of everyone in town she later married Roscoe Lancaster, a man 30 years her senior and the richest man around. When Roscoe dies, Caroline has to contend with his business, his mentally challenged daughter, The Retreat, his fancy estate. But, she isn't quite sure she can handle his estranged son, Rink. Rink and Caroline are not strangers. They shared a torrid summer romance long ago. Will Caroline be able to control her feelings for Rink? Will Rink be able to forgive her for marrying his father? My thoughts: This is one of Sandra Brown's earlier novels originally published under the name, Erin St. Claire for Silhouette Intimate Moments. I had never read anything by Sandra Brown before and I liked this one, although I'm sure I would prefer her later work. It is interesting however to see the growth of a writer over a long period of time. I liked the way she developed Caroline's character, you can see her as a shy young girl, with a troubled home life. How she was able to rise above the town gossips and the nay sayers and make something of herself. Later we see her as a vibrant young woman, with good business sense and a caring heart as she cares for Roscoe's daughter. Caroline personify's what many would consider a "strong" woman. Rink is a very solid character as well. We can see him as a young man who realizes that his actions may have consequences, and takes his time and patience with Caroline who is much younger than him. We can see that he is very unlike his father. He is honest and hardworking. He loves his home and has been forced to leave it, as well as the woman he loves because of principals. It was good book, though maybe not a favorite of mine.

Bitter Sweet Rain was a suspensful and emotionally satisfying book for me. The way Sandra Brown writes made me feel what the characters were feeling. My nose was in this book for hours at a time, I never wanted to put it down. The main charcter in this book, Caroline Dawson, is an original charcter. She has a bad childhood but finds someone special,Rink Lancaster, to love and will love for the rest of her life. But difficult situations and people tear them apart. Caroline and Rink thought they would never see each other again. But certain and amazing situations and experiences bring them to see each others faces once again after so many years. But one person is holding them back from each other, a person who ruined their lives from the beginning. Will they ever be together again or are they doomed for eternity? This book includes death, new life, love, hate, lies, and the bloody truth. It is every emotion and feeling put into one book. The feelings that Caroline and the man she loves feel are amazing and thought to be not able to ever explain. But Sandra Brown explains them perfectly. At moments I felt like I was Caroline Dawson, like I was part of the book. The way the characters are portrayed made me feel like they were real and I knew them all my life. Moments and events in this book made me laugh, smile, and cry. Sometimes all at once. The love that Caroline Dawson has for this special man is so strong nothing can break it. It is a love I can only imagine to feel. It is a love that I thought was impossible to explain in words, but Sandra Brown figured out a way to do that. If you enjoy love stories with true meaning and suspense you will love this book. Bitter Sweet Rain is the perfect title for this book. If you read it you will totally understand. The rain has a meaning to it and for Caroline Dawson it is always bitter but also always so sweet. The characters are all so different but all fit together so well and are bonded in a certain way. This book has so many events and experiences in it. These include first love, growing up, marriage, divorce, death, life, new life, money scandals... etc. Caroline Dawson is a girl/ woman who I admire and relate to in some ways. A book is a good book when you can feel what the character is feeling. I felt the pain, the happiness, sadness, fear, and excitment of these characters. There is a wide variety of characters. Caroline Dawson who is known as the trashy poor girl, but grows up to be a beautiful woman. Rink Lancaster who is treated with most respect in the community for his fathers money. Roscoe Lancaster who is Rink's father, a man who is very respected and loved by the community but is not the man he seems to be. Laura Jane is Rink's sister who is slow in some ways, but in others the most mature out of them all. Haney is the maid at the mansion, she is a lovable character. There are many more characters you will meet when you read this book. I highly recommenr this book to anyone. It is a suspensful live story with such emotion.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and could relate to them. It held your attention and while it might be predictable you found yourself wanting it to work out for the characters. I have always enjoyed Sandra Brown's book and have read almost everything she has written.

Some chapters take us back in time to the beginning of the relationship between Rink and Caroline. In the present, Rink's anger and pain is expressed in biting sarcasm meant to hurt Caroline. It is tantalizing to watch Rink and Caroline work through the layers of defenses and misunderstandings that have kept them apart.

I can't find any other author that writes like her. It's very simple yet intriguing. The characters, the plot, the storyline, the dialogues are just simply amazing. It's about forbidden love and trust. At the end, the antagonist has left quite a legacy to his children even his wife---young mistress Caroline. But way at the end...I'm not going to spoil it. It's very...good. Read it!

I had read Sandra Browns book, Smoke Screen, and thought it was guite good, so I ordered three more of her books. I just finished Bitter Sweet Rain and I felt like I was reading a porno book. I don't mind reading about sex, but when the girl is fifteen, it bothers me. Almost every page is like the page before. No wonder it was a fast read, I couldn't wait to get done with it. Everything in the book was very predictable. I only hope the next two books are better than this one was.

I absolutely loved this story! The story is very emotional. I cried a lot at times, but that does not make the story bad. This is one of my favorite books by Sandra Brown!!

It's a great story of love, it has suspence and everything is said out of frustration and bitterness of the past years, but when Rink and Caroline come together it's like an explotion waiting to happen.

I think Sandra Brown is the best, so when I saw one I hadn't read, I decided to read it. It didn't take long and it was done too. There's something magical about her books. Everyone of them take me into another world for a while and I have a hard time putting the book down until it's finished. Awesome, awesome book!
