What is it about Detroit that produces such patently inflammatory, yet platinum-popular rockers and rappers? In the grand tradition of their Motor Town forerockers Ted Nugent and the MC5 -- not to mention their Rock City rivals Eminem and Kid Rock -- Insane Clown Posse offer their own outrageous metal-charged rap vision, complete with sexism, unfathomable sexual practices, and boasts that stray from typical rap clichés like women and money. On Halloween 2000, the band released Bizaar and Bizzar -- two distinct CDs, sold separately, that each include packaging perks for ICP fans (Juggalos). Bizaar's CD booklet includes "Board Game Bizaar," a crossword puzzle, and something that resembles ICP Mad-Libs. As for the music, fans (and detractors) of ICP will get what they expect: bargain-basement beats and over-the-top rants that put a premium on shock value while trying to be as funny as possible in a theater-of-the bizarre-meets-the-WWF sort of way. "Fearless" brags about all that the ICP aren't afraid to do ("I'll become pen pals with the Unabomber and let him send me packages / I'll drive an ice cream truck to Ethiopia and talk about 'free ice cream sandwiches!'"). "Rainbows & Stuff" details a few of their favorite things (ice cream, cherry pie, Nyquil pills, and Hershey Kisses) atop a bouncy little beat before the chorus -- "But something tells me that I hate you / Something tells me I must kill you" -- is screamed atop churning guitars. Love 'em or hate 'em, this is one of the most demented packages to come off Detroit's assembly line in some time. Must be something in the water up there.
