Overview

The Black Arrow by Robert Louis Stevenson

Set in England during the 15th-century Wars of the Roses, this swash-buckling historical novel by the author of Treasure Island and Kidnapped tells the story of young Dick Shelton. Betrayed by his treacherous and brutal guardian, Sir Daniel Brackley, Dick seeks the help of John Amend-All, leader of the mysterious fellowship of the Black Arrow -- and Brackley's sworn enemy. Pitted against fierce fighters, a trecherous priest, and Sir Daniel, Dick seeks to become a knight and rescue his true love.

Brimming with adventure, suspense, and romance, this thrilling tale presents a classic portrait of England during one of its most tumultuous eras, as Dick is pulled by his loyalties to the houses of both York and Lancaster. He must make a crucial choice, for his fate and the fate of England hang in the balance.

This book is about a young man that has to deal with the fact that the men that had raised him might not be exactly what he thought they were. They were all in involved in a plot to kill his father. The young man's name is Richard Shelton and he falls in love with a girl named Joanne Sedley. He has to leave her behind, however, when he has to run for his life from Sir Daniel, his legal guardian and master mind to the plot that killed his father. The book tells of Dick's quest in making a name for himself and rescuing Joanne from the clasp of Sir Daniel. This book is an excellent fictional story in twined in the famous fight between the Lancaster's and the York's. This book was magnificent in the way the author used language and imagery to describe events, characters, and places in a way that made it easy to picture in your mind. The plot of the story was easy to follow yet never stopping in the adventerousness and excitingness of it. The author was very talented in explaining and writeing about each character in a way that made you either understand, love, sympathise, or hate them. If you love adventure and intimate books, you will absolutely love 'The Black Arrow'.
