Well, this all started when I picked up High School Debut at the local Barnes & Noble and noticed Black Bird which has had my attention for a while. Anyway, after I bought 3 of them I had some cash left over so I picked up Black Bird 1 & 2 while I was there. I didn't really expect much from it but I went ahead and gave it a try. Now onto the manga. I have to say that Black Bird kind of started off a little slow, or so I thought. However, by the end of the first chapter it started reeling me in since everything kind of just...happened. What I mean is, the main guy, Kyo, pretty much suddenly appeared, saved the main girl Misao, and managed to beat up a few baddies. One thing I found surprising was the ammount of blood. Misao keeps getting into these situations and finds herself injured. Anyway, Kyo seems to add an erotic feel to Black Bird since he constantly refers to Misao's breasts and cant seem to keep his hands to himself. The art at first I wasn't sure I liked but it kind of rubbed off pretty soon. There's a lot of tension between the two, some sexual, but overall a good read. I don't recommend the manga for young readers. Overall, Black Bird surprised me and kept me wanting more by the end of the volume.

I never would've thought I'd read this genre but I was drawn to the cover so I decided to purchase volumes 1-7 and I did not regret it. If you're a fan of paranormal romance (Twilight, etc) then this book is for you. Some say it includes characters from Japanese folklore but I am not sure. I am not sure if the plot is from Japanese folklore too: a female human born with the power to strengthen demons by her flesh and blood (called as a senka maiden in the manga, oh, she has to be a virgin too, I think???). The way the author describes it: If a demon drinks your blood he is granted a longer life, if a demon eats you he is given eternal youth, if a demon takes you for his wife his clan will prosper. Oh, the senka maiden must turn 16 years of age before her powers take full effect. The author described it as "open season" for demons once the senka maiden turns this age. This plot is what the author draws upon and included the romance factor of course ;) with all the angst of teenage romance. Fair warning though: This manga series is not for those under 18years of age and I am serious. There are adult themes throughout the manga as well as a disturbing twist: the heroine is a 16 year old high school student and the hero is her homeroom teacher! It doesn't help that the hero cannot hide his growing desire for the heroine.

I was not sure at first about this manga. but having read all three volumes I have to say that it is really a great read. I like the way that the characters relate to each other. and how the two main characters fall in love was really great. If you are looking for something that is a little different/ then you should read this book.

I've seen this many times at B&N and always walked past it. Well I decided to finally try it. I'm glad I did. I think it's really great. If you like Mugen Spiral or Kamisama Kiss I think that you'll also like this, as it shares a theme. I'm going to get more of this series this weekend.

All she wanted was a normal life, but fate had other plans. I love this series. The setting is beautiful and all of the characters so unique. None of them are perfect, but they do the best they can with what they’ve got. This story is just plain fun and addicting. The lead character isn’t overly cheerful and in fact is pretty average if it wasn’t for her unusual ability to see spirits. Misao is a girl who has always longed for a normal life with her loved ones, but she doesn’t get depressed and weepy. Instead she does her best to bear it and tries to rely on her own ability to gain happiness. She does falter at times, but I love that she isn’t perfect and can have a bit of a selfish side to her. It shows that she is human. I love the dynamic between her and Kyo they are so great together. Even though Misao can be a bit naïve when it comes to Kyo she doesn’t let him push her around. Kyo is a sweet guy, but he does have a tendency to love to tease Misao. I find it nice that although he wants to protect her he doesn’t treat her like she is a china doll that could easily break. He tells her straight out what’s going on and allows her to make her own decisions. Aside from all the seriousness the story is full of hilarious antics that the characters get into and had me cracking up a lot. It gave us a nice relief so it wasn’t overly serious. I can’t wait to see what else is in store for Misao and Kyo.

It's really cute and sad that she remembers her childhood friend and has been aching for him for years. Kind of reminds me of Bleach, except the boy has supernatural powers and the girl has a special gift that draws others towards her. It's romantic and touching and has a small amount of danger.

When I first saw this manga I thought 'oh this looks cool' so I picked it up and read the back and let me tell you something, I was hooked right then and there! I bought it and read it in a flash. After reading it I couldn't wait to get my hands on the 2nd volume! You should totally pick this manga up and give it a try, I'm sure that you'll love it as much as I have!!!

This was just amazing! I love Kyo and Taro very much. The story was very good and well written, or rather, drawn. We first meet Misao and find out that she is in love with a childhood friend, Kyo. Kyo promised her that he would come back for her when he moved out some years ago. Then we find out that Misao sees demons. Kyo comes along and... I guess I would say, saves her, in a way. And of course, Kyo is a demon. He is back to make Misao his wife. Misao doesnt know if Kyo loves her or is just playing her. It is a great book and you will not put it down til the end, so if you can, go ahead and buy the next one.

I was hooked on this book from the very begining. I love how the characters start out and are introduced and once I read this I literally started reading it again. It is an awesome series, one I would recommend others to follow. I also love that the books are being published quickly. I get so wrapped up in the story I can't put it down and then when I do I pick it back up and read it again! It is the absolute best. Yes I am borderline obsessed with it but if you enjoy manga you will enjoy this series.

Black Bird is an absolutely amazing manga. It has beautiful artwork, unique storyline (not many people have thought of this one yet), great humor, and not anything that can put you to sleep. It is more intended for less juvenile audiences, but I think that's partially what makes it so amazing.

I have to admit I was a bit skeptical about this series at first. Sometimes, I wonder if the supernatural element of love stories is a little trite already. But this series is amazing. It's not really original, but it reminds me of so much of my favorite manga with its stereotypical characterizations. There's the perverted teacher and the indecisive and clumsy heroine. Somehow they make the cutest couple. This is definitely for a mature audience, but I could not put this down when I picked it up. I'm so glad Viz Media is publishing the volumes really fast!!

There are so many Mangas that i have fallen in love with but this one is on my top 5. There is just so much i like about this book (Manga). The characters are really good the plot is fantastic and the story romantic. My favorite of course is the main guy(Kyo). He is a special guy you will see why if you read the book. I can see that this Manga seems to be very promising. I recommend it to everyone any age well maybe teens the most cause it does have somethings that kids dont really need to get into. Well read it and enjoy it as much as i did and have fun with it.I will say this this Manga is already one of my collection list and i already have the second volume and i preordered the thrid.

Even though I hate to admit it, the series is a lot of fun and the story, art work, and the hint of comedy keep you coming back for more. Like most manga for girls, Misao, as a lead character, could be a lot less naive and intelligent and Kyo perhaps more noble. The series definitely isn't along the lines of Vampire Knight in terms of quality story line, but it is much better than Love Monster, for example, for a romance and comedy. Great Saturday read.

I think this is my new favorite right know. I am so bumbed out that I have to wait a while for the next one. You wanna go straight into the next with this series. This book has good demons, bad demons, a hot guy, a not so ordinary girl who can see these said demons, all kinda of good stuff. Trust me, you will not regret getting this book. It is well worth it. I am deffinetly getting the rest of the series as soon as humanly possible! If your looking for other good vampire books: check out my recommendations under this.

Now, now, I'm a sucker for these kind of manga. I love Kimitachi E (and should seriously write reviews for that manga sometime given I found it to be really worth my time), and even though this manga was an impulse buy when I casually visited a comic book store the other day, I find it was worth my time. The plot is simple enough: Misao is a bubbly 16 year old girl in modern Japan who has a little problem: she can see ghosts and spirits and they bother her... a lot. Pretty much they chase after her pretty much wherever she goes, and everyone thinks she's a ditzy scuttlebrain without knowing her little secret. On the day of her 16th birthday, the regular little ghosts that usually bothered her have been replaced by fearsome demons known as youkai who either want to kill her and eat her body to presumably become immortal, or ask her hand in marriage and bring great honor to their families. Both decisions repulse poor Misao who pretty much got the short stick of a crappy deal. And this is where the expected romance comes in. Kyo is a powerful yokai from a birdman demon family and he is trying to win her heart by taking advantage they used to be friends when they were children. The problem is, Misao's pleasant memories with Kyo have been seemingly erased and she only remembers the day he left her life for no apparent reason. Kyo is however too saucy and perfect to ignore for long. Incredibly hot, powerful, refined and determined to protect Misao's life at all costs, whenever she gets injured by a rogue yokai attack, he doesn't think twice before rushing to her side and uh.. licks the wounds from her body to cure her. Huh? Yup, this manga seems to get a bit close to the raunchy side, but the licking scenes are more for comedic effects and to increase tension because Misao doesn't know if she really loves Kyo or hates him instead. The artwork tries to stay simple, but it expresses just what is needed. I really liked how the mangaka drew Kyo's resting kimonos. If there was only one thing that made me forfeit the 5 stars, it was that the story seemed to jump a lot into introducing new characters. I would have liked a more linear story a la Fruits Basket. It felt like the mangaka wasn't really sure if this manga was going to be a hit and wanted to move the plot forward by introducing other love rivals (and Kyo's hilarious cousin Taro who always calls Misao "Princess"), in case the comic became canned without notice. However, this is clearly the sort of romance manga that I enjoy reading, and like always, Panini Manga has not left any space for disappointment. Good translation, quality paper and binding, all makes the relatively steep 85 MXN price tag worth it. If I find a comic book store near where I live that will be keeping up with this manga, I'll probably continue purchasing it in order to read the whole series (whoa! it has 18 volumes!). If you like manga like Kimi Tachi E and Fruits Basket, Black Bird will likely be up your alley.

`There is a world of myth and magic that intersects ours, and only a special few can see it.¿ (back cover)A silly sixteen-year-old girl, Misao Harada, could be a special person because she imagines demons around herself. But apart from a tempting statement on the back cover, nothing more of the book is tempting.Go back to the real vampires¿ stories.

It is about a girl, Misao, destined to be the bride of a demon. The demon, Kyo, was her childhood friend who returned after 10 years away. He tells Misao about this destiny and she gets upset every time he tries to be intimate with her because of it. As it progresses, she questions her feelings for Kyo and his feelings for her, while he protects her from being attacked by other demons.I haven't read a graphic novel in awhile but I enjoyed this one, so much so I plan on reading the rest!Winner of the 54th Shogakukan Manga Award.

Misao Harada wants nothing more than to be a normal high school girl, but this is very difficult with all the demons that only she can see hanging around and tripping her up. Things start to get exponentially worse on her 16th birthday and she discovers the reason for the demon's attraction, they want her blood and are willing to eat her to get it. Misao's only protection is Kyo, a tengu demon she knew as a child who is determined to protect and possess her. The protection she can deal with but being possessed by a demon isn't quite what she was looking for in a relationship. This is a different story and is quite erotic in a rather innocent way (think "Twilight" with actual blood letting). You certainly can't help but feel bad for Misao who is obviously very confused and constantly getting attacked and slashed. I really like the different demons we get to see. After reading so many manga I am familiar with both the tengu and kitsune demon types and am really enjoying having found another story that features them. I additionally like the relationship between Kyo and Misao, even though I usually frown on storylines that feature student/teacher relations. I think in the context it was introduced here, with Kyo deliberately taking on the teaching job to be close and protect Misao, makes it a little more acceptable to me.The cover is art for this is both pretty and disturbing. The character artwork generally is very familiar to me and I'm going to have to see if I've read something by this manga-ka in the past. I do like it, there seems to be a good balance between character and background detail and the more risqué scenes are all non-detailed.This is an interesting, unique storyline with a premise I'm really enjoying and artwork that I find pleasing. I'm certainly looking forward to continuing on.

Misao Harada can see into the magical realm, and now that she's 16 she hopes that she can find herself a boyfriend and enjoy life. Suddently she's being attacked by demons and her childhood friend Kyo returns to save her. Apparently she's a bride of Prophecy and a lot of demon clans want her. She wants love but survival is so important! It's light and left me wondering what was going to happen next to the characters. It didn't entrall but it was diverting.
