Overview

Black Keys by Rose B. Mashal

A Muslim Arab Prince with a heavy weight of responsibilities on his shoulders and a young Catholic American woman with a dark, haunted past living inside her heart. Unexpectedly thrust together in a deal of betrayal brokered by her brother, the last thing she imagines when she goes to his wedding in a kingdom far away from her home, is to find out that it's her own wedding, as well.

A bright, independent CEO struggling to live this new life, where the traditions and rules are too numerous to keep up with, and an attractive, intelligent prince wanting nothing more than for his bride to find the black keys.

Fate steps in to teach the troubled new princess a few lessons about love, life, understanding and acceptance, while destiny forces the Crown Prince into allowing his beautiful wife to break a rule or two.

Because when it comes to love, rules blur and traditions fade.

I so badly wanted to enjoy this story. Just didn't happen. Marie & her brother were Christians, yet both displayed more hated & racism than the non-Christian characters. Sad. Marie constantly clutched her cross...a symbol of sacrifice & love, yet showed none of that. Doubly sad. And those tears...I wanted to shove my hand inside the book & slap her silly. Enough already!! Yeah...like I said...so wanted to like this book because of a promising story line. Didn't even come close.

Even if the writing hadn't been terrible, I could never get past the raging xenophobia.

I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book when I started it but as I got about half way through it I really started to enjoy it. Marie really surprised me when she stood up to her brother, he got what he deserved. I hope she gets back to Mazen, looking forward to thr next book.

I loved this book. Very emotional. Very thought provoking. Exceptionally written. She did get irritating at times but it worked with what was happening. The worst part is that it ends on a cliffhanger. Uh..

Racism bugged me but i get that the author had to go to extremes to get her point across. Love everything else though. Made me think.

First in the trilogy, and I cannot wait to read the next (i mean, i have no choice since it won't be until 2016!) Such a beautiful beginning to a blossoming love story. It really delves into the racial stereotypes people have, which makes this a fulfilling read for the mind, as well as the heart. This book was one of the best I've read this year!!

I kind of found the whole glossing over of islamic beliefs distasteful however I enjoyed the characters and the differentiation between tradition and actual religious doctrine a fine point of growth for character building. Overall a good read.
