A whirlwind of a read. Best advice: even when you think you are starting to dislike a character, stick with it. You'll boomerang so fast, you won't catch your breath. And if you think you know which way it's going, you don't.

Review for Black Lies by Alessandra Torre Black Lies. Dark truths and secrets seem to be Alessandra Torre’s trademark when it comes to her books, not to mention her out of this world smut. She was told the book had “too much sex” — I scoff at that. There is no such thing as too much when it comes to quality scenes written by a brilliant author!  “True love makes a person reckless…” Layana lived a privileged life; she did what was expected of her while making plans for what she would do as soon as she was free. Once she was able to make her own decisions she quickly got out from under her parents’ thumb; only to find herself living the same type of life she was so desperate to get away from. She could always start fresh tomorrow… “… makes them take risks and make sacrifices.” Brant didn’t do public appearances. He didn’t do relationships. His life revolved around his work and when he had an itch to scratch there was always someone his money could buy for a night. Some might describe him as an eccentric genius, but he is also kind, generous, and hot as hell. Attending the Homeless Youth of America Gala was a means to an end, he needed to corner someone important to talk about a proposal and this was his ticket to do so… and then he saw her. “True love tests the boundaries of our person…” Layana and Brant have an instant attraction and things heat up quickly between the pair. They seem like the perfect couple… and then everything changes in an instant. “… makes us yearn to be better and fight for the ground we stand on.” Lee is rough around the edges. He is impulsive and aggressive. He makes no apologies for being who he is and doing what he wants when he wants. Their attraction is instantaneous and neither of them can control the desires of their bodies.  “I will fight for this love.” Who will Layana choose; Brant or Lee?  Can she keep them both or will the secrets destroy them all? “Lie for it.” This. Book. Is. Amazing. I messaged Alessandra at 33% in and told her the secret was torturing me … she is an evil genius when it comes to dropping small hints that aren’t really hints and making you HOPE for things you shouldn’t hope for. Then of course when I begged for her to confirm my suspicions she laughed at me - mean! She was right to let me keep reading, I mean who really wants the story spoiled? I didn’t even though I had to know! And so today I suffer a book hangover courtesy of  Lana, Brant, and Lee. It was totally worth it.  “Steal for it.” So far I’ve read all but one of Alessandra’s books and each one has something that sets it apart from the rest. She gives each and every character their own distinct voice, the flow of the story and the dynamic of the plots are so different that her writing never feels stale. I first fell in love with Brad from Blindfolded Innocence… he is one of my top Book Boyfriends… Brant and Lee are so dang hot I felt disloyal to Brad while reading Black lies… they are THAT good. ¿ “It is worthy of that.” Black Lies gets FIVE deliciously deceptive stars for storyline and FIVE drenched to ruination panties for the hottest smut to date from Miss Alessandra Torre. An absolute MUST read now. It would be a travesty if you pass this one by, it has everything a book whore could possibly want — gripping story, destructive romance, panty melting smut, millionaire alpha man, bad boy alpha man, and the woman that binds it all together.  “This love is worth the unsaid truths. The hidden lies.” Review by the Head Whore at Mommy’s a Book Whore.

Oh My Gosh!   There are books that you read and enjoy, there are books you read and you can’t put down, this is a book that not only can I not put it down but I cannot stop thinking about it.    There is romance, mystery, and such a surprise! I read this entire book, even went back and re read some of the chapters, and was so clueless, a good clueless.   The fact that I had no idea until Alessandra Torres gave away the secret has made this one of the best books I have read in quite a while.   Brant has a secret, a BIG secret.    There are hints and clues throughout the story but I never did quite solve it.  I had ideas, wrong ideas.   There is so much that I want to share but I do not want give anything about this amazing story away.   All I can tell you is that you have to go get this book, NOW!  Don’t wait.

Hey you! Yeah, you. The one who blatantly refuses to read Black Lies because of the cheating, or love triangle, or whatever it is you think you know about this book. And you over there, fence rider. It’s time to get off the fence. The synopsis sums up everything I’m about to tell you: ”if you think you’ve heard this story before, trust me – you haven’t.” Let’s get real for a moment, fellow Romance Reader. Can I call you RR? Let’s get real for a moment, RR. You know as well as I do that most (not all, don’t stone me) romance books follow a basic formula. Guy meets girl, they fall in love, there’s some sort of turmoil where you wonder if they will make it, and then happily ever after. Obviously there are very talented authors out there who can take this very basic skeleton of a story and make it intriguing and captivating and I don’t feel like I’ve read the same book 200 times. I keep coming back for more. I love it. I read Romance and I don’t give a damn if you think my genre of choice is somehow lesser. We’re here, we’re cliché, get used to it! Right, so back to this formula. Meet, love, turmoil, ever after. Even though I tell myself this could be the one time they don’t end up together, they almost always do. And I eat it up. So Double R, we’ve established that you and I love Romance despite the predictability. But what if you didn’t have to imagine that the book you’re reading is different? What if it was different? Wouldn’t that be something? What if, while reading a book, you just know what’s going to happen, and then suddenly up is down and nothing is what you thought it was? What would it be like to read something - gasp! - unique? I digress, R Squared. My point is that Black Lies is a total masterpiece. You think you know, but you have no idea. Do not be afraid of this book, Fence Rider or Nay Sayer! Do not be afraid of this book! Even if you read it and it’s not the greatest thing since sliced bread, at least you’re reading something different! But trust me, you’ll love it. You’ll curse me and anyone else who recommended it, you’ll be angry and disgusted and sick to your stomach and you might have to walk away lest you throw your kindle through the wall, but when you stick it out to the end, you will be thanking us. Do you know that even when I read a book that I liked a lot or even loved that I sometimes have a hard time writing a review? That the words don’t always come so easily and I struggle to find something to say? Some reviews are shorter than others. Typically the shortest of them all are books where I can’t say much about it without spoiling some or all of the plot. I try to write a minimum of 300 words. I’m on word 524… 525… 526… you get the idea and I could write thousands more. All I really need you to do is go buy this book. Right now. Run, don’t walk. Navigate rapidly via your favorite web browser, don’t dilly dally. Buy this book. Alessandra is an excellent author. She may also be a bit of an evil genius. She took all of my expectations, everything I’m accustomed to, all of my assumptions and completely used them against me. She played on every emotion, used every weapon in her arsenal and obliterated me. I would like to say that I’ll never be presumptuous or assume or judge again… but we’re being honest so I won’t. But she did stun, shock, and wow me. She will you too, RR.

This is the type of book that you cannot summarize in a review. It is complex but also exquisitively structured and narrated around the relationship and secrets of the two main characters. Unlike most other reviewers, I did suspect what his secret was about half way into the book. Yet this did not diminish my enthusiasm for this book. It is dark and emotional, and written superbly. This author is truly gifted. Only she can pull through a story like this. You really have to read it and judge for yourself. Get ready for a love story like no other you have read before.

What do you do when you love two men? Do you "do the right thing" and give one up? If you're Layana Fairchild you don't. Does that make her selfish? In my opinion it absolutely does not. Why you may ask....because love is messy but worth everything. What's a little drama, stalking and manipulation in life....right?

The Good. This is a pretty original idea, so it's got that going for it. It combines multiple popular themes of the genre, including instant attraction, billionaire romance, bad boy romance, and more. There are parts of the story that are fairly well written. The plot rolls along and the characters have moments of extreme likability. The HMC in particular is enjoyable for most of the book. The sex isn't terrible, either. The bad. Torre's writing is somewhat pedestrian. There are not a lot of exceptional passages. The plot twist is heavily forecast, yet not well revealed. There are explanations and excuses given, but they don't really fit. The author claims to have researched the subject, but it doesn't seem to have been very thoroughly. The resolution to the story is not very realistic and is somewhat disappointing. Torre relies on some pretty unkind stereotypes to motivate her characters and it doesn't do her any favors. No one wants cookie cutter characterizations, not even in their villains. The Ugly. Torre has a habit of misusing words as if to create new meanings for them, and the result is sentences that don't make sense. I'd have expected her editors to catch these, as there are several instances in this book. The writer seems to want to tackle a lot of topics here, and it's too much. With the big twist, she didn't need much else in the way of conflict. In the end, the entire thing feels flat. At the time she wrote this, Torre lacked the pizzazz in her writing to pull it off. She's likely improved since then, but this is story is not an example of stellar abilities. This is not a bad read nor a bad review, it's just not a reat read. There are worse things you could do with your time, but there are better things, too. Torre's writing may have improved since this books was published, and I will likely read another, more recent one, just to find out. My main takeaway from this was that Torre didn't have the skill set, at the time she wrote it, to carry off this story in the way it deserved to be told.

I love everything about this book. All the characters were written so perfectly. I laughed, I bawled, I hit about every emotion there is reading this book. Talk about a love story. I recommend everyone read this book.

The only reason it doesn't have five stars is due to the execution of "the secret" reveal maybe being handled better. Besides that enjoyed the book immensely!

WOW I almost stop reading at the beginnig from some of the editing errors. For example h was talking to a volunteer as she walks up a hill, then she is in the kitchen making sandwiches still talking. When she finishes talking to the volunteer she turns and walks up the rest of the hill. WHAT Is there a kitchen in the middle of the hil. LOL Then the flipping between time frames and characters speaking was a little too much. But I am so glad I stuck with it. What an amazing read and a different story line. The second and third portions were much better. I loved it and would highly recommend it.

Wow... until a few chapters towards the end of the story l never saw this coming! To be honest in the beginning l thought, ehh - another cheater story all the way around, but that could't have farther from the truth. All of these characters kept me on my toes and worrying the whole thing was going to literally blow up. I have never read this author and when l saw a favorable blurb on Natasha's website l decided to see what the fuss was about. Glad to see Jillian is being kept safe from society. Wonderful story about another form of mental illness and the treatment. Certain things about the story reminded me about Lisa Eugene's book Grayson also about mental illness. Thanks for bringing these issues out of the closet.

It is what you think, it’s not and yet it’s more “I can overlook that fact.” Whoa – Okay that initial bit of foreshadowing you have no idea you are in for an up and down ride. I’ve read Ms. Torre before. She can write a very intriguing story that wraps you up and can’t put down. You want a summary of what the book is about? Go read another review as I am not that kinda of reviewer. So, then what can I tell you about the story without giving so much away? Brant/Layana/Lee, it just not what you think, yet it is what you think, and it’s more than you think. I was needing something to take me out of my ‘sad’ reads and this came recommended by a friend. She said it was her 2014 read. And now I know why. For some you may grasp where the story is going earlier on like I did. That’s okay because now you are compelled to read it. Some characters are possessed. Wait, they all are- just at different levels and different motivators. The story is sexy, confusing, captivating and riveting all at once. If you have a problem with triad story lines, please give this a try. Can you relate? Maybe not to the conditions presented as they are rare but a reality. But the desperation of Layana, yes we feel her. Love romance with a big suspenseful twist, you’ll love it. I am just sorry I didn’t read this sooner.

First time I've ever written a review, that's how much I loved this book! At one point during the book, I was really beginning to dislike the main character, but as another reviewer stated; just stick with it, it's worth it!
