After a detective accepts a seemingly easy job, he soon discovers that his client's puzzling claims are not imagined but real.
Drawn into a world of violent crime and puzzling mysteries on a remote estate, he must learn to survive while he tries to discover the secret a private militia is guarding.
The discovery of a dead body leaves him tormented by guilt as the hunter becomes the hunted.
Entangled in a government investigation of the mysterious occupants of Black Mound, he agrees to be the star witness in a case against them, and loses control over his destiny.
His fate hangs in the balance as two parties try to tip the scale in their favor: one wants him to identify the guilty in court while the other aims to silence him before he takes the stand.
Black Mound contains descriptions of violence and sexual conduct and is intended for mature audiences only.

About the Author

Many years ago, the funny products of J. F. Berg's imagination entertained classmates on their way home from school. Some actually walked passed their homes and out of their way just to hear another one of J. F.'s creative adventures.

On Saturday mornings, J. F. used a Dictaphone (a dictation device used in the 1950's and 60's) in a vacant office next to his dad's to record detective stories with sound effects. Pencil sharpeners, staplers and squeaky drawers found new uses in J. F.'s temporary recording studio that even their inventors had never dreamed of. Doors opened and closed, telephones rang and keys jingled. On Monday mornings, office personnel gathered around that Dictaphone to listen to the latest creative concoctions.

Later, J. F. hammered stories into an old manual typewriter. J. F.'s index finger circled above the keyboard like a hawk in the sky trying to locate prey, and when the target had been spotted, that same finger struck down on a key.

Later in life, J. F. wrote short stories for an international chat group on America Online, several newsletters, and eventually novels.
J. F. lives with many adopted "fur kids" (cats and dogs) in the United States.
