Blackheart Man

Before Bob Marley and the Wailers, there were the Wailing Wailers -- a sizzling harmony group consisting of Bob, Peter Tosh, and Neville Livingston, a.k.a. Bunny Wailer. After a successful career in Jamaica, the original Wailers made two albums with Island Records before going their separate ways in 1976. While Marley went on to become an international legend and Tosh made records with the Rolling Stones, Bunny Wailer remained the most elusive and the most unjustly overlooked. True reggae aficionados hold a special place for the roots man, the musical mystic in tune with ancient forces. BLACK HEART MAN, Bunny's first solo album, is also his greatest: a majestic, carefully crafted statement of Rastafarian faith as a means of enduring tribulation. Stately songs like the jailhouse lament "Battering Down Sentence" and the dreadlocks primer "Rastaman" are absolute classics, while "Amagideon" features a horn section spitting brimstone and fire while Bunny beats the binghi drum. On the original album jacket, the lyrics to all ten songs are printed on stone tablets, like commandments brought down from a mountain top. Which is exactly how they sound.

Bunny Wailer is the waiter that never got tipped, the visionary that was ignored, the poet that was scorned. your talent and poetic delivery of the deepest vocal message since the birth of music has not been ignored.
