Captivating 5 stars plus! I think some authors deserve to be better known. Indeed, BLACKWOOD CROSSING, written by M.K. McClintock, is a little gem to discover. This is a captivating story of espionage set in Scotland and England. I didn't know this author and her books and decided to read his first novel, ALAINA CLAIBORNE! OMG, I fell in love with her writing style and her lovable personages. I liked everything about Blackwood Crossing; it’s a romantic adventure, great storyline, great characters, intrigue and mystery that kept me captivated until the end. It’s her second book in her British Agent series. This time, it is Charles’s story; we meet again, Tristan, Alaina, Devon. Charles Blackwood is an expert in the art of espionage and always served his country with honor; until he met the headstrong and independent Scottish lass Rhona. At the time of their relationship, two years ago, he decided to choose the agency instead of her. They meet again, as he is asked to protect her during her voyage to her future husband. But, after twists and turns, their true feeling for each other, will be evident. Will they find the murderer? Who will betray Rhona? Will they uncover the truth about her parents? Ms. McClintock really knows how to trap you into her story, by sharing small mysterious clues that builds up, keeping you interested till the end. This author is also a very descriptive writer; I could almost feel the surroundings. I strongly recommend this well written historical suspense! Looking forward to read her third book CLAYTON’S HONOR, which will be Devon and Anne’s story.

Blackwood Crossing is the second book in the British Agents series.  Alaina Claiborne, the first book in the series, was my first foray into reading historical romantic mysteries and my first boook by this author.  I was very impressed and couldn't wait for Blackwood Crossing to see what happened next. For me, this story is a perfect  blend of mystery and romance in a historical setting - Scotland and England in 1892.  I love when I start reading and find myself quickly transported into the heart of the story.  I liked Charles and Rhona - watching them clash and then realizing they were perfect together.  And the plot twists?  They were well-crafted into a story that kept me wondering and turning the pages as quickly as I could.  Blackwood Crossing took me out  of my normal reading comfort zone and provided me with several hours of very pleasurable reading.  I can't wait for Devon's story! Blackwood Crossing is a good story.  I don't think you will be disappointed.  I would definitely recommend it. I thoroughly enjoy finding a new author whose writing so intrigues me that I rush to buy all her other books.  The author's Gallagher series is also very good.  Ms. McClintock has a bright future and I'm looking forward to following her adventures. This book was received from the author for an honest review.

Loved this second British Agent book. Just like the first book there is plenty of action and a nice mystery woven throughout. The romance is super clean, but it's really sweet. Highly recommended series and I can't wait for the next one!

Highly Recommended to anyone who enjoys historical tales of intrigue with unadulterated romance! BLACKWOOD CROSSING by MK McClintock is the first British Agent novel I've read by the author, but the second novel in this series. Her British Agent novels are romantic mysteries, with a heavier emphasis on the mystery. The romance is light and squeaky clean. Her writing is always top notch. I love her Gallagher series. In BLACKWOOD CROSSING, her storytelling flows with a clear plot and strong characters. BLACKWOOD CROSSING can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend that newbies to her British Agents series start with the first, ALAINA CLAIBORNE. This is because there were many references within BLACKWOOD CROSSING of what had taken place in the previous book and multiple interconnected characters. I was a bit overwhelmed at first trying to make sense of who was what and of previous relationships. I think my enjoyment of BLACKWOOD CROSSING would have been exponentially increased if I had read the series in order. That said, I loved the characters in this book. Our heroine, Rhona Davidson, a Scottish lass, has a poor excuse for a father. He has committed to marry her off for financial recompense to a laird who she had been led to believe was responsible for her mother's death. Naturally, this is an arrangement she abhors. However, her father forces her by threatening her brother who she dearly loves. Our hero, Charles Blackwood, is an aristocratic secret agent man. He had fallen in love with Rhona on a previous assignment but had left her deeply hurt when he left her without a true explanation in the name of duty. He has now been tasked with escorting her from her father's holdings to her betrothed's. Charles has vowed to place his heart first this time, if he is given another chance with Rhona. The suspense and characters were completely captivating and made it very difficult to put this book down. There were murders, clandestine groups, high speed carriage chases, and intrigue galore. I gasped during some of the action. It all felt so real. I'm looking forward to reading Devon's story in the next installment and plan to go back and read the first book in the meantime. Bottomline: I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys historical tales of intrigue with unadulterated romance. MK is an incredible storyteller. 4 Stars!

I loved the first book, Alaina Claiborne, in this series. I fell in love with the dangerous spy that fell in love. This book is not that. This book is more about a woman that was in love, and then her man left, however he is back! This is a great mystery. I had no idea who was trying to kill who. I really wanted Rhona to get her happy ending. So many historicals start off with the woman not wanted to marry a laird that they hate. However very few authors can add such family dynamics and make a truly pleasurable story. There is a reason why Rhona hates Charles, and true to her other novels the author lets us know why and who. I can not wait to read book 3! I am giving this book a 5/5. I was given a copy to review, however all opinions are my own.

Reviewed by Tracy A. Fischer for Readers' Favorite In Blackwood Crossing, the second volume of the British Agent Novels, the reader will find themselves on an absolute thrill ride of a mystery, a ride they won't want to get off! Author MK McClintock has done a fabulous job in writing a fantastic romance, mystery, and piece of historical fiction, all in one, certainly no easy feat. Follow the story of Rhona Davidson, an independent woman who looks to be promised in marriage to a man she hates, the very man who murdered her mother. To escape what appears to be her fate, Rhona makes an arrangement with Charles Blackwood, and that agreement changes her life forever. Charles, who has been in love with Rhona for some time, is willing to do almost anything to win her heart. But when Rhona's devious father plots to keep them apart again, both Rhona and Charles' future happiness is once again at risk. My goodness, I certainly loved this book! Author MK McClintock has a real gift in creating characters that her readers will connect with and continue to think about long after the book is done. Her ability to create realistic scenes in a historical setting is truly second to none, and the reader will feel as if they are actually in the Scottish highlands and merry old England right along with Rhona and Charles. Any reader who loves historical fiction, mysteries, adventuresome tales or romance will adore this book. I am so pleased to have found Blackwood Crossing, and absolutely would recommend it. And now that I have discovered MK McClintock, well, let's just say I have a new author added to my favorites list! I certainly hope that she is hard at work on the next installment of this great series!

A superb addition to this series. Rhona and Charles are such special characters. Rhona has a lot of spunk and Charles is easy going but with a tougher side that I really liked. Sweet romance that built nicely on a foundation of love the characters already had. A really clean book!
