Overview

Summer Butler is killing it in the ratings—and all of America is tuning in as New York Times bestselling author Denise Grover Swank greenlights a new season of TV’s hottest sleuth…

Summer Butler had no idea that Darling Investigations would be such a smash. But ratings don’t lie—fans love watching the former star solve real-life crimes in her hometown. With the first season wrapped, the reality-show PI is feeling the pressure to make the next one an even bigger success.

Though finding a new case won’t be easy—it’s not like another dead body will just fall in her lap—Summer’s willing to give it a try. Besides, reconciling with her family—not to mention her old flame, police chief Luke Montgomery—is a nice way to spend her downtime.

But Summer’s rekindled romance isn’t the only thing burning up Sweet Briar. It seems the town is harboring an arsonist, and all the smoldering signs point to the same culprit: her cousin Dixie. Although this case may be too close for comfort, it seems season two is already bringing the drama—and for Summer it could also be too hot to handle.

About the Author

Denise Grover Swank is the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author of the Rose Gardner Mysteries, the Magnolia Steele Mysteries, The Wedding Pact series, The Curse Keepers series, and others. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and lived in the area until she was nineteen. Then she became a nomad, living in five cities, four states, and ten houses over the course of ten years before moving back to her roots. Her hobbies include witty (in her own mind) Facebook comments and dancing in her kitchen with her children (quite badly, if you believe her offspring). Hidden talents include the gift of justification and the ability to drink massive amounts of caffeine and still fall asleep within two minutes. Her lack of the sense of smell allows her to perform many unspeakable tasks. She has six children and hasn’t lost her sanity—or so she leads you to believe. Deadly Summer was a good book, but Blazing Summer was even better! I love Summer, Dixie, Luke, and Teddy. Summer had no idea what she was getting herself into with this reality TV show. She's got quite the fan base as a former star and everyone loves watching the hometown hero. This book is action packed with humor, mystery, and strong family bonds. Blazing Summer goes portrays the deep roots of the Sweet Briar community, and when Dixie is accused of arson, they stick together to clear her name. I'm hoping for more books in this sweet, small town series because this story and Summer's romance is just getting started! Can't wait to see what is next from Denise Grover Swank.

One of my favorite books! I absolutely love Summer Butler and I think this book was a fantastic continuation of her story. Summer is a great character, stuck in a situation she didn’t really want to be in originally but she still put her all into it. She’s intelligent so I love seeing her, her cousin, and their crew solve mysteries and I love seeing the show aspect to it too! Denise Grover Swank wrote the book beautifully and I was tricked by a few red herrings which I find so refreshing! I hate predictable stories and this was definitely not one of them. I was suspicious of everyone except for the actual murderer up until the very end! I hope to see more Summer and Dixie in the future!

I normally don't like cozy mysteries but I started reading Denise Grover Swank a few years ago and I just l love her writing style. It's easy to devour, sometimes in one sitting. I love the southern charm of her characters and I find her books a palate cleanser when I'm overdoing the psychological thrillers I'm addicted to. This is the second book in this series. The first one is "Deadly Summer". I find Swank's books great summer reads. Yes, yes that it a pun on the name of the book. Sue me. ;o) Here's a synopsis. Summer Butler used to be a child star with a dictatorial mom. Now she's a washed up has been with a mom who ruined all her connections with the industry she loves then stole her money and ran back to Sweet Briar. Summer is determined to make her life work and she's going to use her notoriety to create a life back home. As a private investigator. That's the roll she used to play on TV. Now she not only investigates and solves mysteries in real life, but she even does it on TV too! Reality TV is the best way to pay the bills right now and Summer is all about being practical. It helps that her former flame is police chief. This time around, her production manager is determined to make Summer quit. Summer is determined to make a go of the second season of her show. Now all she has to do is find a good case to solve. And not ruin anyone's life as she does it. This is such a cute series. As cozy mysteries go, it's a 4.5 star out of five. There are no annoying parts. It's light, and fresh but with enough mystery to keep you reading. It's not rocket science but it is pleasurable and distracting. Just what an overworked reader needs in the heated days of summer. I recommend buying the first of this series, it's less than $2 right now. What a deal. Now, go find a pool boy to make you a drink with an umbrella in it, put up your feet and take the day off. You deserve it. Don't come up for air until you're done. Then go buy THIS book and do it all over again tomorrow. Staycations are all the rage. Now I'm a little jealous, can I borrow your pool boy? Pass those umbrella drinks!

Blazing Summer by Denise Grover Swank a five-star read that will set you on fire. This is the second book in the Darling Investigations series and I will be honest and say I enjoyed it, but not as much as the first book Deadly Summer. But that being said It’s still a series I know I will love and read as soon as I am able. Denise Grover Swank is one of those authors you just can’t help but love, she writes multiple genres and I love them all. Summer Butler is back for the next instalment of her reality television show Darling Investigations, little was she expecting it to be such a huge success. All Summer wants is to be able to help her family and have a life, as far away from her old one as possible. Summer will fight for everything including her cousin Dixie no matter how bad things look, and how badly it will risk the blossoming romance with Brooding ex-flame police chief Luke Montgomery, he put Dixie away once and has the power to do it again? What would you do in Summers shoes? Throw in some amazing characters in the form of cousin Teddy and Meemaw and the craziness that is Living the Connor Life: Connor Blake’s guide to Spiritual, Physical and Emotional wholeness in less than thirty days, (A book within a book that I’m sure would be so funny, you can only dream) then you have a great story all round. There is something for everyone in the book.

Loved Blazing Summer. Although I could do without Lauren, a little to close to local politics for me, love all the characters. Hope Summer moves on to her own business next. Denise always keeps you guessing whodunnit and who didn't. Denise captures small town politics well. Couldn't put it down. Left me wanting more.

Just as the title says, this book is blazing hot! While I enjoyed the first book in this series, I absolutely love this one. It is fast-paced and action packed with humor and a mystery that kept me guessing. As always, Denise pulls you into the story and makes you feel as though you are there. Luke is just yummy and had me swooning right along with Summer. I'm holding out hope that the series will continue after this book, as I am loving this group of characters.

LOVED this book!!! This is book two in the Darling Investigations series and it is even better than the first. This is fast paced, fun, and funny, and Summer investigates a series of crimes for her reality television series. While doing this with her cousin, Dixie, she stumbles across evidence in the crime that Dixie was convicted of years ago - then her investigation takes a very personal slant. While learning how to investigate, Summer tries to make sense of her relationship with Luke, the police chief and her former boyfriend, who also wants to be her current boyfriend. However, with his role as the police chief and her bumbling investigations, they are frequently at cross purposes. Add in the (somewhat) evil Lauren and Summer's nemesis Connor, and you've got a great combination. This one is a must read. This novel has it all - a compelling mystery, a romance, and a bit of humor. While this is part of a series, this is a stand alone novel. However, it's so good that you really owe it to yourself to read them all. Actually, if you haven't yet read a book by this author, you have been missing out as she is a master at her craft. She is on my must read authors' list and should probably be on yours as well.
