So, here's the gist of it: if you've followed the series up to this point, you will greatly appreciate this volume. Tensions that have been building up in previous volumes between certain Soul Reapers have come to their heads in this volume, and we finally get to see Byakuya Kuchiki's beautiful and deadly Bankai in action as he battles Renji in Renji's attempt to save Rukia. But as the volume draws to a close, Rukia's execution grows closer and closer...and there's still no sign of Ichigo and Yoruichi!!! Really, there aren't many problems with this volume at all. Tite Kubo's cleanly detailed artwork really shines in this volume, as the stark black and whites lend themselves well to action sequences, of which there are many. This volume also highlights his awesome character designs, including some peripheral Soul Reapers like Kaname Tosen and Kenpachi Zaraki, giving the reader insight into the hidden powers of their Zanpaku-to. Overall, I loved the volume, but it felt like it didn't advance the plot a lot. That, and the subject of the cover illustration doesn't even show up within the actual pages. Still, this volume definitely drums up excitement for volume 18. Will Rukia really be executed? Or will Ichigo be able to achieve Bankai and defeat Byakuya Kuchiki to save her life? We have to wait until April to find out.

I enjoyed this volume if only because there was a ton of action and the story draws closer to the end of the "Rescue Rukia" arc as I call it. I believe my fellow "Bleach" fans will enjoy this as I'm sure, like me, you've enjoyed every other volume. I would also recommend this series to shonen manga fans, especially those who like "Naruto". As with each volume I read, I look forward to seeing what will happen in the next volume. So, I'm going to end this review and go order Volume 18.
