'They ought to put out the eyes of painters as they do goldfinches in order that they can sing better.' - Pablo Picasso

As one of the hottest new prospects in New York City's ultra-competitive art scene, Benjamin Young's star is on the rise.

Just when his future couldn't appear brighter, Ben discovers that he is soon to become a father, irrevocably altering the trajectory of his life.

As he takes on the responsibilities of a single parent, and the drudgery of a dead-end job, he also tries to open his heart to true love.

Along the way he tries to overcome an abusive childhood, and struggles to be the kind of father he never had. But when his troubled, violent past comes back to haunt him, he must decide if everyone-no matter how hurtful-deserves a second chance.

Great read! I could totally relate to Ben and his inner turmoil. Being challenged to make ends meet, raise a child and answer to his inner artistic need is never simple. Complicated by a past that is difficult to live with you are drawn into the challenges of the story line. Extremely well written from beginning to end. I will recommend it to many.

If a book does not grab my attention at the very beginning, I will not keep reading.   This book grabbed hold of me right away and kept me interested until the very last page.  I became invested in the characters and wanted to see how they developed, evolved and interacted with each other. I would definitely recommend this book.

I love a story with complicated relationships and tricky situations, one where I find myself thinking about the characters long after the last page. This one really stuck with me. Enjoyed it immensely and recommend it often.

Didn't want it to end!  Blinding the Finches was that book you didn't want to put down & didn't want to end. I was sad when I read the last page because Ben & company would no longer be a part of my morning & evening reading ritual.  Ben was a troubled soul, but eventually pulled it together enough to try to make his life & Desdemona better. Not giving anything away, I felt it ended as it should, I wasn’t left with a hollow feeling, I just wanted more! Kudos to David S.E. Zapanta, exceptional writer! Looking forward to reading his next novel!
