New Kids On The Block - five now fully-grown men (Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, and Danny Wood) who forever defined what the modern boy band would look and sound like - are back together for the very first time in nearly a decade and a half. The Block, their first album since 1994, includes the single "Summertime."
"I think history has looked upon us fondly," says McIntyre. "I wouldn't say we were important, but people do now see our place in pop history. We've read that we `begat the boy bands" like Backstreet Boys and N'Sync. And in a way, those groups have all made us more contemporary. They made us younger in a way by putting us in their generation. But hey, what about New Edition? There would be no New Kids without them. And of course, the Jackson Five begat New Edition. So I guess we were really just the first white boy band."

This album is so good that even the early twenty-somethings I know that didn't grow up a New Kids fanatic LOVE IT! Their new songs have a great grown up feel without being vulgar like so many songs you hear today. They sound better than ever and this is definitely worth the buy!!!!
At first I was a little skeptical how this new cd word sound. But I LOVE IT!!! The songs are more grown up and mature. The live show is just as good.
This is a solid pop effort from New Kids on the Block! Very infectious and funky numbers from Click, Click, Click, to Single, to Lights, Camera, Action, to Dirty Dancing to Twisted! They were smart to stay contemporary, as the songs have this pop edge with shades of hip-hop beats everywhere. The ballads are nice, especially 2 in the Morning and Stare at You. Most of all the group sounds comfortable with these songs than the structured and conservative nature of the Maurice Starr-helmed albums of the '80s/90s. RedOne's 6 songs that he produced give the group a whole new energy. And Akon, Polow Da Don, Timbaland and others have hot numbers here, but let the group have the control. Donnie Wahlberg co writing 9 of the songs give the project more originality. Lastly, the strong leads from Jordan Knight & quot love that falsetto& quot , Joey McIntyre and Donnie make the album exciting. People need to check this album out. They want their respect back as a pure pop group.
This is an AWESOME CD! I've seen them in concert 3 times (before their break-up). I had the dolls, those BIG buttons, t-shirts--you name it!
I pre-ordered this album as soon as I heard it was coming out and was available for pre-order! I have tickets to see them in concert in January 2009--needless to say I am a fan!
Seriously though, this album is great! 'Stare at You' is my absolute favorite song on this album! 'Dirty Dancing' gets my kids singing along to it. 'Click, Click, Click' is GREAT!
Like their previous songs, the ones on this album give meaning to the former fans of today. They are updated and still have a sound for the younger generations.
Check it out!!
Listened to NKOTB when they first came out. It's great to hear their "new" sound!! Great album for the old fans as well as for the new fans following them.
The Music is outstanding, The Songs are amazing, They made a perfect transition to sound like a lot of new artists out now... its simply enjoyable for old and new fans alike
This album really is amazing...and addicting! While it is a definite shock to hear the guys singing about sex, and it took me a few runs of listening to the CD to get used to this, once you get past the fact that we're no longer little kids listening to cute boys singing about puppy love you'll really enjoy this! It's been the staple CD in my car for 2 straight months (and I drive a lot!) One thing I do agree with in the editorial review though is the overwhelming amount of guest artists. It seemed a bit excessive to me. "Grown Man" and "Big Girl Now" are the only ones I feel are necessary for guest vocals, and they do it well, but the others I think would be better with just the guys and no extras.
I took it out of the libary and I just had to have it because it is such anwesome CD.
I have to totally disagree with the editorial review. This was probably written by a NKOTB hater from back in the day. If you were a New Kids fan in the 90's, you will love their new music. Yes, it's R&Bish and I'm not a huge fan of R&B, but I am of New Kids. Saw them in their current tour twice now and plan on going again this summer. They have some GREAT songs including TWISTED - my favorite! And they have always been pop. I don't see this album as too much different than the others except now they sing about sex!
I also got the 17-song deluxe album. It's equally as strong with the additional 4 songs! They smartly keep the songs within the 3 to 3 1/2 minute range " excluding the one over 4 minutes" , but you can't beat the infectiousness and catchiness of the tracks! The hooks and choruses are undeniably addictive. Single easily has their best harmonies, especially on the chorus. I have played 10 of the tracks more than once the past 10 days or so! For longtime fans, this is a treat. For people who are hearing New Kids for the first time " after overplaying the new Jonas Brothers CD for the 56th time" , this is your chance to hear a longtime pop group from Boston get its respect due again in the music scene. The Block is BACK!!!!!!
You will not be disappointed! I love this album more than their old stuff!
