Blocked: A Breakaway Novel by L. P. Dover

He’s got every reason to be cocky . . . until a female cuts him down to size.

I’m Dallas Easton, the best goaltender in the league. I make a damn good living playing hockey, and with women falling at my feet wherever I go, why not enjoy it? I get whatever I want, whenever I want—that is, until I come across the one player who gets the best of me on the ice.

When I try to pummel the dude, all hell breaks loose. Imagine my surprise when the helmet comes off to reveal a woman underneath. And not just any woman, but the sexiest woman I’ve ever seen. Callie Davis is the complete opposite of the puck bunnies I usually go for, a good girl with sick moves and a selfless streak a mile wide. I need to make amends, but she dodges me at every turn. It doesn’t help that Callie’s brother hates my guts, or that my agent thinks she’s bad for my career.

But I could care less what they think. I can’t let our little run-in on the ice be the end of our story. Because when I set my sights on something, I won’t rest until I score.

Chapter 1

“Another undefeated win. Tonight’s going to be good.”

Braeden nodded and ran a hand through his blond hair, scoping out the crowd. “Can’t argue with you there.”

I looked around the room at all the women, scantily clad in their skintight dresses, ready to have some fun. We’d just won another game, our rank undefeated. We were already halfway through the season. It was time to celebrate what was going to be another victory year.

We bypassed the women and headed toward the kitchen, where most of the guys from my hockey team congregated along with other dudes I didn’t know. Maddox Ledger had a habit of inviting outsiders to our parties. Guess I couldn’t blame him, since he was the one hosting the party.

On every inch of the gray marble counters were bottles of wine, liquor, and beer. Maddox was at the head of the kitchen table, tossing back shots with some of our teammates. The guy was a complete douche, but he knew how to throw a party. I could always count on him to have a horde of women at my beck and call.

Maddox held up a bottle of tequila. “Shot?”

Braeden and I walked up to the table and Josh Harrison, our backup goaltender, moved over to let us in. “Heck yeah,” I said. “Pour me two.”

Braeden held up his hand. “Same for me.”

Maddox poured our shots and I tossed mine back, relishing the burn as it went down my throat. “Great party.”
A sly grin spread across Maddox’s face. “Yes, it is. I don’t do them half-baked.”

Josh slapped a hand on my shoulder. I could smell the alcohol on his breath. “That’s for darn sure,” he said, tossing his beer bottle into the trash can. “Maybe one of these days I’ll actually get to play.” He poured himself a shot of tequila and downed it, his frustration on display for the world to see.

Maddox shook his head, trying to hide his smile. “I’m going to leave that to you.” He walked off and the room cleared out except for Braeden, Josh, and me. The last thing I wanted to do was deal with Harrison’s crybaby BS about how he never got to play. Don’t get me wrong, he was a good goaltender, but he wasn’t as good as me.

“You done whining yet?” I growled at Josh. His eyes darkened as he stared at me. He was only twenty-two, but I had more years of experience and he knew it. Our coach wasn’t going to choose him over me.

Josh bucked up, lifting his chin in the air. We were about the same height, but I had a good thirty pounds more muscle on me. I could snap him in half. “Maybe if you started working with me like Coach said, I’d get better. Instead, you leave me high and dry.”

It was true. I was supposed to work with him, but I didn’t want him getting better than me. It was my time on the ice and no one was going to take that away from me. “Only you can make yourself better. You can’t blame that shit on me,” I spat. “Now get out of my face.”

His jaw clenched, but I wasn’t backing down. It wasn’t the first time I’d gotten into a fight with one of my teammates. As one of the alternate captains, I had to keep the others in line when our captain wasn’t around. Josh huffed and stormed out of the room.

Chuckling, Braeden slapped me on the back. “Makes you wish Carter was here, doesn’t it?”

I scoffed and poured another shot. “He’d tell me Josh was right. I don’t want to hear that crap right now. All I want is to drink and screw, and then screw again.” Kellan Carter was our captain and my best friend. As far as morals went, he was a saint. Especially now that he was married to one of the sexiest women in the world with a kid on the way.

Grabbing the bottle of tequila, Braeden nodded toward the living room, where the DJ started to play. “Let’s go.”
The room was dark, lit only by the colored lights the DJ brought in. Some of the guys danced with their girls, while a lot of the women danced with each other, their bodies rubbing together. It was such a major turn-on.

I couldn’t take my eyes off a certain blonde, wearing a tight black dress with her breasts about to fall out. Biting her lip, she danced provocatively in front of me, beckoning me out onto the dance floor. Braeden nudged me in the side. “What are you waiting for?”

Grabbing the bottle of tequila from him, I took one last swig and grabbed her around the waist, just in time for “How Do You Want It” by 2Pac to play over the speakers. Turning around in my arms, she rubbed her rear against my front as she danced, giggling as my body sprang to attention. All I wanted to do was lift her dress and screw her senseless.

Grinning broadly, she faced me and wrapped her arms around my neck. “I’m Britney. Why don’t we find somewhere more private?” She smelled like cherries and I had no doubt she’d taste like them, too.

I nipped her ear and she shivered. “Follow me.”

Blocked is the second book in the Breakaway series, and it is the story of Dallas Easton and Callie Davis. Dallas plays hockey for the Charlotte Strikers, but so does Callie's brother, and there is no love lost between the two of them. Not only does Callie work in the emergency room she is also a surgical nurse, and being that her brother is a hockey player she knows their reputation or thinks she does. When Callie and Noah first meet, he has no idea who she is, but once he finds out he knows that he owes her an apology, but that is easier said than done. I can't go any further without spoiling it for other readers and I do not want to do that. All I can say is if you love romance with handsome hunks, strong independent heroines, friends, passion, fun, and just enough angst to keep it exciting, then this book is for you. Every time I read a book by L.P. Dover, it is like you are there with the people in the book and you cannot help but fall in love with the characters. One character to watch for in this book is Jack the Jaquar , I bet he steals your heart!!

Blocked by L.P. Dover is the second standalone romance in her Breakaway hockey series. While each book stands alone with different characters and their own HEA, the timeline is sequential and would be better enjoyed reading order, but it isn't necessary. Blocked is a teammate/enemy's sister romance where the bad boy Dallas has to not only win over the girl he already stepped wrong with but ALSO try and win over her brother and his teammate that hates him. Dallas is aggressive and mean and while he is fiercely loyal to those he lets close, there aren't many that he does let in. Callie is tough, an ER and Surgical nurse and has been playing hockey with her brothers for as long as she can remember. When she pulls some dirty hockey moves on Dallas while he is in goal in a shoot-out game against her brothers he mistakes her for a man and nearly hits her. Shocked, guilty and extremely remorseful he starts the path to redemption and not only wins Callie's forgiveness but also her heart. Callie is making Dallas, who she is REALLY attracted to, work for every moment with her. Except she realizes that while he has his anger issues he is completely different from who she assumed he was. His character is solid and he means well - except on the ice. A tumultuous journey of forgiveness, love in unexpected places, family bonds and more. Well-written and well-paced I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series, Playmaker. Enjoy!

Dover never disappoints, and she didn't with Blocked either. I love me some sports romance this one had it all drama, the bad boy with a temper, and the nurse to take care of the said bad boy. This is a fast-paced book that will capute you from the first page!

BLOCKED is the second book in the Breakaway series about the Charlotte Strikers hockey team. Each book is a standalone, although all the characters are interconnected. L. P. Dover is one my favorite authors and I always enjoy everything she writes, especially, her hockey series. This is a sweet and heartwarming story about Dallas Easton, the goalie for the Strikers. He is a bad boy who enjoys playing hockey, drinking and being with a different woman every night. However, that all changes when he meets Callie, the sister of one of his teammates. Dallas grew on me as the story progressed. He has always been the type of guy who doesn't care about anyone but himself and he has a reputation as a bad boy with a volatile temper. However, once he meets Callie, everything changes. He only wants her and he isn't interested in anyone else. He has an uphill battle trying to convince Callie and her protective brothers he has changed. After growing up with three brothers Callie has learned to stand up for herself and she is also a good hockey player. She loves working as a nurse and is dedicated to her job. Callie is the first woman who hasn't fallen at Dallas’ feet. She makes him work for a chance to be with her. Dallas and Callie work well together and have a lot chemistry. I enjoyed all the secondary characters and can't wait to read more books in this series. I really enjoyed this fast paced, fun story. Thanks to the author for providing a copy of this book vIa Cocktails and Books and Netgalley. The opinions expressed are my own.

L.P. Dover really has a way with sports romances. Being a hockey fan, I loved this mix of sports and romance. Nothing like having the team bad boy hot head matched and tamed. I really loved the antics he went through to prove to his lady and her protective brothers and friends that he was not playing but serious about her. Fun fast read with some hot sexy times, hockey brawls, and romantic complications.

This is the second book in the series and it definitely had more hockey in it than the first book did; and that made me very happy. Dallas really had to work hard to get in Callie’s good graces after he realized after their altercation on the ice that the player he was up against was a she. Her brother set Dallas up to take him down a notch or two. The two teammates don’t like each other, at all. Callie grew up with brother’s, so she knows the player status that comes with the professional hockey player. She wanted nothing to do with Dallas. Callie tried to avoid his attempts to woo her. He persisted! Will Dallas be able to get Callie to give him a chance to prove he’s someone to take a chance on? You will have to read the book to find out. This is a fun, sexy and at times laugh out loud funny sports romance. I savored every page! I am definitely looking forward to the next book in this series!

Really enjoyed this book.. As a lover of sports themed novels this one "put the puck in the net" for me.. Just enough of everything including a hero with a womanizing legacy to overcome and a heroine to befriend.. But he is beyond every woman's book boyfriend.. The book is well written and well edited... All aspects of the story line were handled very well and the 'sexy" was in very good taste without going into the "gross" as some authors do... Still very "hot"... This is Book Two (Hard Stick is Book One) and that one also kept me reading into the night.. Have to wait anxiously for Book Three until February 2018 but look forward to the release date... I loved the way Book One carried over into Book Two just enough... Both books are great reads and again, if you don't like hockey it will not make a difference in your enjoyment... The Love Story is the main game... Important to read these books in order as they have a very enjoyable flow...

Sexy! Goal! Great read! Blocked is funny, heartwarming and hot! Between a hot as hell hunk with all the moves that don't quit and a smart witty, beautiful sister of a fellow player, who turn his world upside down. his book will keep you glued to the pages. Dallas was one lucky guy, he had it all. Good looks, ripped body, more money than he could spend and more woman then he could handle. It was great to be him! As the starting goalie for the Charlotte Strikers, and soon to be on the reality TV show Rich and Single as their bachelor, life was good. But when he trips up a fellow players sibling and pulls off their mask to punch them, he comes face to face with the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He will have to grovel and beg as well as change his bad boy ways if he wants to get any time with this teammates sister. Callie works full-time as a emergency and surgical nurse. Living with her siblings. But when Dallas, her brother’s team mate with the bad boy reputation and a drop dead gorgeous hunk sets his site on her and doesn’t want to take no for an answer, she has to set her true feelings for him aside, to make sure she wasn’t just another notch on his hockey stick. But with a sexy hunk putting out all the moves in his repertoire to get her in his bed, will she be able to trust what they have? Will Callie let down her guard long enough to fall? Will Dallas find something he never knew he needed? You will have a hard time putting this down, as you find out the answers to these questions.Don't pass this one up get it now! I voluntarily received and reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

I have read several of L.P. Dover's books but this by far was my favorite. I thought her writing was smooth, the characters were well developed and it was a great storyline. I really enjoy stories where the lead female character does not give in to the main lead male character and she actually makes him work for it. I can honestly say that Callie and Dallas relationship is definitely one that has never been written, in the sense of how they met. I loved all the back and forth between them, how strong Callie's character was and the funny banter that pursued throughout their courtship. I appreciated that it wasn't all about sex, but that there was an actual relationship developing between Callie and Dallas, with that being said the sex scenes we still amazing and well written. I have read sex scenes in other books of L.P. where they have come off a little cheesy, but in "Blocked" she did a great job building up all this sexual tension and then bringing it home with a very hot sex scene. I am looking forward to reading the 1st book and the 3rd book, which will be based off Lacey and Maddox. I would definitely recommend this series to all my fellow book lovers and will also say that if anyone loves stories based off hot hockey players and have read the Helen Hunting "Pucked" series then they would love the Breakaway series also. 3.5 stars--I had some issues with the heroine's actions 3.5 stars-- BLOCKED is the second instalment in L.P. Dover’s contemporary, adult BREAKAWAY erotic, romance, hockey series focusing on the men and women of the professional hockey team The Charlotte Strikers. This is twenty nine year old goalie Dallas Easton, and twenty six year old nurse Callie Davis’ story line. BLOCKED can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. We were first introduced to Dallas in book one HARD STICK. Callie is the Charlotte Strikers’ Justin Davis’ younger sister. Told from dual first person perspectives (Callie and Dallas) BLOCKED looks at the building but acrimonious relationship between the Charlotte Strikers goalie Dallas Easton, a bit of a manwhore by reputation, and nurse Callie Davis, a woman who can hold her own against our story line hero. Callie’s introduction to Dallas comes at a party where Dallas finds himself on the receiving end of a jealous boyfriend who gets physically violent with our story line hero; to add insult to injury an unsuspecting Dallas will come face to face with a woman who isn’t afraid to go one on one but a meeting that doesn’t end well for Dallas Easton. What ensues is the building relationship between Callie and Dallas, and the potential fall out as Callie’s over protective brothers intend to protect Callie from their less than worthy teammate; and an overzealous agent who intends to keeps Callie and Dallas apart. The relationship between Callie and Dallas is one of immediate attraction but Dallas’ reputation as a manwhore and player precedes his introduction to our story line heroine. Puck bunnies aside, Dallas’ life is about to get more complicated when he is chosen as the ‘bachelor’ for the reality television series Rich and Single. Callie’s brothers intend to make Dallas’ life a living h*ll in order to protect the sister they love including running interference both on and off the ice but Callie makes our hero work just as hard to ‘prove’ he is worthy of her attention and love. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. The world building continues to look at the run for the Cup; the camaraderie between players, family, fans and the media; and the potential fall-out as past sins are slowly revealed. There is a large ensemble case of secondary and supporting characters including Kristen and Kellan Carter (Hard Stick #1); Braeden Wallace, Coach Carlisle, and Maddox Ledger We are introduced to Callie’s twin brothers and sports agents Corey and Brant, as well as her brother Justin; her best friend and co-worker Hannah Martin, and Dr. Sands; as well as Dallas’ sister Lacey, and his parents Theresa and David Easton. There is some backstory and history between Lacey and Maddox that I am looking forward to the reveal.; and the developing relationship between Hannah and Corey. BLOCKED is a story of family and friendship; of one man’s desire to change for the woman he loves, and one woman’s strength to look beyond the past. The premise is entertaining, inspiring and engaging; the characters are dynamic, edgy and spirited; the romance is passionate and uplifting. I did have to question some of the intended humor as our hero must ‘work’ for the heroine’s heart but humiliation is not on my list of proof of intention or love.

Received an ARC for my fair review for netgalley. I always enjoy Hockey books, I love these Alpha men. I have to say, that at the beginning, I was not liking Dallas, he was looking sleazy, which kind of surprised me, because I didn;t remember him being like that in the last book, but anyway he did redeem himself. Dallas Easton is a bad boy of hockey, and proud of it, but he has a pretty bad temper, and unfortunately that is one of the many bad impression that he gives Callie. First impression, pretty bad, and I wont tell you, so that you can read it, second one, he almost comes to blows with her when he thinks it is some guy beating him in hockey, until she takes the mask off, and he instantly feels regret. Dallas goes full on force trying to apologize to Callie, he truly is remorseful, and she is wary due to his reputation, and the fact that her brothers truly detest him. She finally gives him a chance, and everything is going great, they are both falling deeper and deeper, and then he was sabotaged and everyone is heartbroken, until the truth comes out, and the grand gesture.. I loved reading about Kellan and Kristan, and what they were up to, and imagine that Maddox story with Lacey comes next.

I love a happy ending, one of the main reasons I tend to pick up romance and a sports romance with an HEA is even better. Callie and Dallas are so different that they just work. What a great story, I can't wait for more of this series.

5 STARS FOR BLOCKED!! This story was a goal shot for me, it was fast paced, sexy, fun, plenty of hotness and fantastic characters. Dallas is a hot and sexy hockey player that all the women want and he takes advantage of it. Callie is beautiful, smart and sassy woman with three brothers and one hates Dallas. I loved seeing the story be told for Dallas and Callie, I could not put this book down. L.P. Dover is one off my favorite authors, I always one click her books. Dallas is the best goalie in the NHL. He's also one of the biggest players to ever live. When he makes the absolute worst impression on Callie, he's pulling out all the stops to apologize. Callie has just moved to North Carolina with her brothers, one of which plays for the Strikers with Dallas. Callie realizes that Dallas isn't going to give up so easy so she decides to make his apologies into a fun game. The chemistry between Dallas and Callie was off the charts. The back and forth between them was absolutely hilarious. I loved the steady pace of the relationship and how nothing seemed to be a huge rush. Callie is a strong, independent woman who was ready to stand up to her overprotective brothers in order to move forward with Dallas. Dallas was super swoony. In the beginning I thought there was nothing that was going to tame the player but as soon as he felt like Callie might be different, he did everything he could to show her that there's more to him than the player everyone sees. This series is absolutely amazing and I can't wait to see what's up next for this team!! *This is my voluntary review of an advanced reader copy*

dallas easton has a reputation. he's the league's best goalie. and he's good at scoring with the ladies. but everything changes when he meets callie davis. he's still the league's best goalie. but the only lady he wants to score with is callie. callie is not a regular puck bunny. her brother and cousin are on the team and neither is a big fan of dallas. blocked is partly about how dallas wins callie over, but also partly about how he has to win everyone over because his reputation precedes him. the thing about books that set up the main character this way is that you have to immediately make him redeemable. because no one really wants to read about a dirtbag falling in love. here's the thing, i never thought dallas was all that awful. but the way some of the characters treat him, especially during the first third of the novel is way over the top for his alleged misdeeds. that one time he almost hits callie and everyone makes him feel super bad about it? 1) they were on the ice and in full pads; 2) callie hit him first and it was a cheap shot; 3) he had no idea that it wasn't another male hockey player he was playing against; 4) he had no idea that it was callie. so how everyone reacts and treats him after that incident seems totally irrational. having dallas have to woo callie isn't a problem, however, and i loved watching their relationship develop. you'd think that her deeper understanding of his character would have allowed her to actually hear him out instead of jumping to conclusions when things look bad late in the story, but instead she shuts him out. this is one of my least favorite character behaviors. i want the lead characters to behave like rational adults. going into hiding and not communicating with the person you claim to love is not rational behavior. the seeds for the next novel in the series, playmaker are sown in this one, and i'm looking forward to seeing where things go. **blocked will publish on october 31, 2017. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/random house publishing group (loveswept) in exchange for my honest review.

Blocked is......BRILLIANT!!! What's not to like about a bad boy hockey player?? Dallas Easton is fast on the ice and goes through woman like a player. That is until he meets Callie Davis. Can Callie make him change his bad boy ways? Pick up this book and see how it all goes down. You won't be disappointed!!

I have said it in many of my reviews that I really L.P. Dover was one of my One-Click authors. I love the stories that she weaves. They are kind of magical. They can transport you to a world filled with wonderful people. This book was no exception. In this story you get to know Dallas more. A cocky ladies man who was used to getting anyone he wanted. Everyone except Callie. She was used to grade A jerks (seeing that her brother is one) and refuses to be "that girl." You know the one that thinks the can change the player. So she avoids them. They both have to figure out if the chemistry between them is worth changing their ways and open themselves to the possibilities of a relationship. I definitely enjoyed this book. Thank you for another awesome book L.P. Dover.

3.5 Stars I love love love sports romance and hockey romance is my favourite, hence I really enjoyed Blocked, which followed cocky manwhore NHL goalie Dallas Easton and kind gentle ER and surgical nurse Callie Davis. Told in dual POV we meet Dallas at an after hockey party just before he gets smashed over the head with a bottle, who comes to his rescue? Yes you've guessed it, sister of one of his team mates (team enemies if you will), Callie. After running into each other a few more times, Dallas is in complete and utter lust and Callie is in the,'I don't play with players' zone. Some funny moments some sexy moments, and of course some cringeworthy moments. Light easy predictable story. I'm looking forward to future stories in the series and I'm hoping for Maddox's story next. I'm received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book Omg omg I LOVED this book, I was so excited to see it on netgalley. Dallas Easton is the Goalie for the Charlotte NHL team and one of the best in the league. He is also known to be a playing. Dallas does not get along well with the newest member of The team Justin Davis and one day during practice Dallas taunts Justine so much they battle it out, but Justine has something up his sleeve he bets Dallas that he can't beat him and his 2 brothers ( twins Corey and Brant) they both act as Justin's agent. When one of the brothers score on Dallas it pisses him off, but when the same player bodychecks him he takes him down draws back to knock his teeth out, that is until he sees the beautiful woman behind the mask. Callie Davis grew up with her three hockey playing brothers and is as good a player as they are when her brother Justin is traded to the Charlotte Jaguars NHL team Callie follows them and starts working at the local hospital as an ER nurse and surgical nurse. When her brothers decide to take on Dallas during practice and they ask her to help take him down she can't resist. I absolutely LOVED how Dallas and Callie's story plays out. Their chemistry is off the charts HOT, I was surprised the ice at the arena didn't melt lol. I was so lucky to have read Hot Stick ( book 1) but these are written that they can be read as standalone books I HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book!!!

Dallas is the best goaltender in the NHL and he has the arrogance to go with it. Women flock to him and he enjoys every second. When Dallas has to share the ice with Justin, a new player on his team, and Justin’s brothers, one brother is able to get past him by tricking him. Dallas gets angry and wants to hit him ... only to find out it’s a girl when the mask comes off. Dallas falls instantly for Justin’s sister Callie. But Callie decides that she wants Dallas to work for it because she’s not going to fall at his feet like all the women who come in contact with him. Dallas eventually wins her over, but there are people conspiring to keep them apart. This is a steamy romance with lots of laughs and twists and turns. I liked that Callie was a nurse and helped to ground Dallas and her brothers. The author gives you updates of the characters from the first book and glimpses about the characters in future books. This is a great series and I can’t wait for the next book. I received an ARC copy courtesy of Random House-Loveswept through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.

Dallas and Callie meet and sparks fly. He is a womanizer and she just moved with her brothers (one of whom, Justin, also plays on the hockey team with Dallas) to Charlotte. She is a nurse and works both surgery and the E.R. Both of them seemed to be quite capable professionally, it was personally where they lost me. Callie was rude, a bully and just plain a brat to Dallas for most of this book. He should not have had to "prove" anything to her at any point upon just meeting her. She wasn't all that and her brothers were just plain annoying. Threatening, cheating and playing hard-to-get were not endearing to me and made me like Callie less and less. Dallas did go above and beyond what I would have expected or thought believable, especially in light of how little he knew about her. I thought she owed him an apology for playing so dirty in order to "win" with her brothers. I do not condone punching anyone and didn't find it okay when she punched Dallas. It all just smacked of immaturity. I will say that the descriptions of the hockey games themselves were good and made up for my dislike of pretty much both Callie and Dallas at points. I also thought that Kristen and Hannah butted in way too much to be believable. I thought Dallas was wrongfully picked on and accused of things throughout this book and really had no one in his corner. I was glad at the ending, but would have like way more maturity in the h than I got. I received an ARC from NetGalley for my honest review.

3.5 stars! Blocked by L.P. Dover is book two in her Breakaway series. After reading the blurb, I was dying to get my hands on it. Dallas Easton is a goaltender used to getting what he wants. His career is on the up, he’s got future plans in the works, and his days are filled with hockey and women. That changes the night he lets his temper get the best of him and finds himself interested in the one woman who won’t give him the time of day. His teammates’ sister, Callie. So, I couldn’t stand Dallas at first. He’s definitely a hothead and really wasn’t much of a team player where some of his teammates were concerned. He had this sense of entitlement that completely rubbed me the wrong way. He never quite recovered for me, personally, but I did enjoy seeing Callie come in and upend his world. Callie is used to skating and hockey because she grew up around it. The woman’s got mad skills, and I loved how she comes out of left field and keeps Dallas on his toes. The last thing she wants—or needs—is to fall for her brother’s enemy on this ice. I thought the pacing was a little inconsistent. As far as Dallas is concerned, he pulls a 180 awfully fast, and it came across as a little too insta-connection for me. I didn’t believe he’d want to change his ways after one meeting with Callie. On the other hand, the last half of the book kind of dragged. There was some extra plot I think could have been cut. All that said, I did rather enjoy this book. Callie’s brothers were great, and there are a few other story lines I’m waiting rather impatiently to see how everything plays out. Blocked was my first read by L.P. Dover, and I’m intrigued enough to dive into this author’s backlog.

I was a huge fan of Hard Stick when I read it. It is rarely a book can blow me away and Hard Stick did that. So when I saw that Blocked was up for review on NetGalley, I immediately requested it. I squeed like a little girl when I saw the book on my shelf as approved and waiting to be downloaded. I couldn’t wait to read it but at the same time, I was nervous. Usually, when I love a book that is the first book in a series, the second one never lives up to my internal hype. Blocked exceeded my expectations. While I didn’t love it as much as Hard Stick, I enjoyed reading about Callie, Dallas, and their romance. I enjoyed that Charlotte, NC was again the backdrop for a great hockey romance. I enjoyed the humor that was peppered throughout the book. I was laughing my butt off while reading. A book that can make you laugh is a book that you need to keep. There were parts of Blocked that I didn’t like. I thought that Callie’s brother, Justin, was a grade A idiot with anger issues. He got on my nerves, big time. While I could understand why he was being so protective of Callie, I kind of wanted to tell him “She’s 28, brah. Let her make her own decisions.”Callie had to hide that she was dating Dallas because of how Justin would react. Which made me do an internal “Ugh“. Dallas was a manwhore. No beating around the bush. He liked the ladies and they liked him back. Not only that, he was going to be on a Bachelor-like show called Rich and Single. Callie was well aware of his reputation. She was there when he got his head beat in by the boyfriend of a girl he was going to screw. Even I was a little surprised when he stopped his manwhore ways and decided to try to settle down with Callie. Only that things can never go as planned and in this case, everything went sideways….fast. While Callie was a sweetheart and I liked her, she was a tad immature. When the going got tough for her and Dallas, what does she do? She refuses to listen to Dallas’s side of the story. She thinks the worst….even though he has done nothing to prove otherwise. Other than that, I thought she was sweet and had a great sense of humor. The whole Dallas skating around in a hot pink bikini because she lost a bet scene in the book cracked me up. The sex scenes between Callie and Dallas were hot. They were like bunnies and did it everywhere. My favorite sex scene was the pool one. I am not into sex in the water but this one almost made me rethink my stance on it. The end of the book was great. I ugly cried during it because it was perfect. The epilogue was even better. I am hoping that Maddox and Lacey’s story is the next one because I want to know the secret that Lacey has. My Summary of Blocked: 4 Stars Blocked is the great 2nd book in the Breakaway series. Not falling to the 2nd book curse, Blocked is a fun, sensual read. This will be on my keeper shelf. It has fleshed out characters, a great plotline, and in-depth world building. **I chose to leave this review after reading an advance reader copy**
