Wicked scary world with solid likable characters. This book definitely made me want to read more of the series.

Blood flame is a love story with the most unlikely pair you could imagine. The world in this new series is a world where a combination of a drug mixed with a serum can turn a human into a witch, vampire, or shifter. It is based around the lives of a witch named Iris and a vampire named Connor. They are both great characters with a lot of pain and struggle in their backgrounds. In their world witches and vampires are enemies. That's just the way it is. He hates witches and she hates vampires. If she chose to, a witch could kill a vampire with a single touch and if he could bite her, he could enthrall her and drain her of blood. With that knowledge, they both know better than to get involved with each other. The problem is the insane attraction to one another that neither can deny and the connection between them that makes no sense. So despite their better judgement fate ends up bringing them together when they are both sent out to investigate a gruesome double murder. They learn pretty quickly that they share a common enemy so they band together to figure out who it is. The pace is fast and the characters are great, but so many aspects of the story feel rushed. A lot of what happens occurs in such a rushed way that it doesn't make sense. The sex scenes are plentiful, very detailed, and include some vulgar language. That I can live with, but the story was so rushed it felt unrealistic at certain parts. Had the characters been given a little more time for their story together to play out it would have been perfect. That being said, I did enjoy the story line and I'm looking forward to reading more about this very different world Caris has created. Copy gifted in exchange for an honest review.

The start of what could be a very interesting series. The world created for it is original, and the characters are engaging. More could have been done to explain the flame drugs and alter serums though. Hopefully there is more detail as to why the serums, in particular, are used in future books. I also thought there was a little bit too much conversation during scenes full of action (good or bad). Sure, you might exchange some words, but having a conversation is stretching it. Anyway, overall it is a good read if you enjoy paranormal romance, and I'm sure reading the next books in the series will help fill in any holes in the background information. ~~Copy gifted in exchange for an honest review~~ Blurb: Do you love hunky vampire warrior types? Then this book is for you! Connor, a powerful vampire serving as a Border Patrol officer for his corrupt world, falls for a gifted witch who has the ability to kill him with a single touch… New York Times bestselling author, Caris Roane, presents BLOOD FLAME, the first book in the Flame Series. In this book, vampire Officer Connor of the Crescent Border Patrol tries to suppress his desire for the powerful witch, Iris Meldeere. Because the woman possesses the ability to kill him with the tips of her fingers, how can he possibly fall in love with her? When a double homicide throws them together, he soon finds his deepest fantasies fulfilled as Iris succumbs to his seductions. But as they battle together to stay alive, and love begins to consume them both, will the witch be able to forgive the dark secrets of his past … BLOOD FLAME is a standalone story with no cliffhangers. It’s a passionate, hot, paranormal romance, featuring a vampire and a witch set in the urban world of Five Bridges. Caris Roane is the author of eighty-one published works, thirty-one of which are paranormal romances featuring tortured warrior vampires in desperate need of worthy women. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ok, wow! Great start to a new world and series! Connor and Iris really got to me, all the pain and loss they have each suffered. They fund each other and broke taboos and kicked butt and fond love, acceptance, and happiness. I am definitely looking forward to the next in this series.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book I have read by this author and I loved it. Action and romance and paranormal. In this book each paranormal group are in their own districts and are policed by officers of their group. Very rarely do they overlap but in this one vampire Officer Connor and a powerful witch Iris have to work together which can be very tricky as she can kill a vampire with a touch. They are thrown together on a case and they fight their attraction to each other as long as they can before giving in.Someone has thrown them together with evil intentions and they have to find and remove the threat to all of their people. I look forward to the next book.

It's so easy to fall in love with the characters, it's so well written that I find myself wanting to skip ahead and find out what happens since I was given this book for an honest review I find with these books it's not hard because it's a must read

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review. HOT!!! I loved the "forbidden" but drawn together in this story. Caris Roane has become one of my favorite authors, I love that if you take the sex out it's an awesome story being told. The worlds and characters are so believable and easy to relate to. I feel like I'm always rooting for the couple to make it (even though I know they will) but something happens and then I'm left wondering "will it happen?". Take a witch and a vampire, mortal enemies, and have them drawn together like a moth to the flame. This is exactly what keeps you reading. Throw in some conspiracy, twists, turns and I couldn't put it down until it was finished.

The author is on to something...I wish it could have been novel length as opposed to novella length and the author delved much deeper into this new world she has created. This new world seems really cool and I believe some really great stories could be generated from this world of witches, vampires, Wizards, Fae, shifters and dead-talkers. I believe the H/H got together way too soon, so there was a loss of tension between them. It was a solid read, if a bit rushed. ***I received this as a gift from the author for an honest review.

Blood Flame (Flame Series book 1) by Caris Roane Iris knew the cost of where she lived. She had come there unwillingly and had been one they would change or sell. She had managed to escape but the cost to her unborn child had been its death and it had cost her a husband she loved. She was changed forever into a witch that had more powers than she ever imagined. She had sworn to herself to kill the vampires and fight to change this horrid world she lived in. Connor had been turned to a vamp against his will. He now worked for the border patrol and fought the drug trade. He also killed witches. Because he killed them he didn't understand the attraction to a certain witch named Iris. She was the flame and he was the moth. These two are going to find that they are bought together in a war that they are forced to fight and fight while both fight the need that grows inside them for the other. A hot story with lots of action and a story line that makes you think. I love the way Caris Roane builds her stories with action and passion.

I was leery that this was just going to be another Blood Rose series, especially when the vampire ended up having longish hair, wore leather, was part of a guard force, and flew his girl all over the place with her feet resting on his boots. As the story progressed, details that started to surface within the plot and conflict that allowed it to stand on its own and not be another Blood Rose series. I like the setting. It is a post-apocalyptic-esk world set in Phoenix, Arizona. A new drug has shown up in society called Blood Flame, due to its side effect of a flame like pattern showing up on the person's neck. Sometimes there is a serum that is laced into the drug that causes people to become "altered" and they became either a witch, vampire, dead-talker, or shifter; all depending on which serum is laced into the drug. The altered person then has to leave their old life (regardless of whether they are married, have children, or successful lives) and move to a fenced off part of Phoenix that has been war-torn and sectioned off into quadrants. Each new species has their own quadrant and they hate the other altered-races. As the story progresses, I began to enjoy it more. It was refreshing, even with the similarities to the Blood Rose series. The characters were strong and the love story was beautiful. It had highs and lows and moved smoothly without any lulls in plot and conflict. The two main characters are entertaining and interesting. I enjoyed watching their relationship develop and strengthen. I will definitely read more of this new series. ***Copy gifted in return for an honest review***

Do you like stories with vampires, or witches in it? Do you like action along with your romance? Do you like hot sex scenes, or hot sexy vamps? Answer yes and you'll enjoy this book, the first in the Flame series. I'll admit I've read all of the Guardian of Ascension, Amulet Series, Dawn of Ascension, Blood Rose series and enjoyed every one of them. Some were nice easy books, light sex scenes, others were hot, hot, hot! Okay that out of the way. I really enjoyed the first book in the Flame Series, Blood Flame. There was enough action to keep you interested, enough hot sex scenes to make you swoon wishing you had your own hot vamp. The characters, well, had depth, and the evil ones were enough you wanted to take a knife to them yourself. This is a bit different than Ms Roane's other ... although the vamps more or less had the same skills as the ones from books past. This world the Vamps, Witches, Shifters, Fae and Death Talkers (I'm guessing necromancers) all live in different sections and don't really mix. Vamps and witches kill each other... haven't got as far as the other inhabitants, so don't know if everyone's going to hate each other. The rest you have to read for yourself.. We all know most books end with an HEA, it's the getting there that's fun. I'm really interested where this world will go to and build.

A Great Book Contemporary Paranormal Romance Alternate Phoenix, Arizona Connor is an officer with the Crescent Border Patrol. He is also a vampire. Though at the moment he is trying to suppress his desire for Iris Meldeere who is a powerful witch. He can’t fall in love with a woman that has the power to kill him with just the tips of her fingers, can he? Soon they are thrown together while they are working a double homicide. Connor finds his deepest fantasies fulfilled when Iris succumbs to his seduction. Love begins consuming them both as they battle together to stay alive. With the dark secrets of his past he has to wonder if the witch will be able to forgive them. This is the start of a new series that starts out fast and doesn’t stop until the very end. The world building is fascinating and complex. It makes for a story that the reader will get wrapped up in as they read to find out just what is going on and who is behind what is happening. While both Iris and Connor are both damaged by their pasts it is engrossing to see them work to get past their past so that they can find a happy future together. It will have readers wanting to read more from this world.

All I can say is WOW!! This is how you start a new series. From the first page I was hooked. The characters are amazing. Having to work together and being different species in a world where neither of them like each other, the attraction they have for each other is HOT!! I would recommend this book to anyone. *copy gifted for an honest review*

Witches and Vampires, Oh my! Loved my first taste of this world! A world where people have been changed with a serum. Five different groups live away from humans, but sadly not peacefully. A world of violence, corruption and drugs... this book focuses on a vampire named Connor that has become obsessed with a witch named Iris. Hatred for each other's kind is overshadowed by their attraction. Danger comes their way... can each deal with the past and move forward? Can their attraction lead to anything? What a journey these two go on! So much packed into this book! A story that pulled me in and characters that touched my emotions! I am truly looking forward to what comes next in this series! *copy was gifted in exchange for an honest review.

I really liked the characters, Iris and Connor, they have a good chemistry and a way about them that is for the most part fun. I liked the fact that Iris has a strong will and can take care of yourself. It was an easy read and I hope to read more of this series in the future.

A drama filled steamy paranormal romance! Connor is a vampire and officer of the Crescent Border Patrol. Iris Meldeere is a witch with the ability to kill him with the tips of her fingers. How can these two be attracted to each other? When a double homicide throws them together, that attraction grows. The story holds your attention from beginning to end and the characters have plenty of depth and emotion. I really liked the beginning of this new series.

Witches and vampires despise each other. They try to kill each other. That's why it's so strange that Crescent Border Patrol Officer James Connor was so attracted to Tribunal Safety Officer Iris Meldeere. For reasons unbeknownst to them, they keep getting thrown together at crime scenes. When they give in to the attraction and things get more serious, will the truth about Connor's past ruin everything? Fantastic paranormal romance! Vampires and witches are the two alter species in this first book in the Flame series. There is also a drug called blood flame that is responsible for the way the world is in this story. This story is full of love, hate, revenge, forgiveness, people that want to make a difference and are ready for a change. The storyline flows smoothly with characters that grab you and take you along for the ride. I can't wait to read about the other three alter species in this amazing series.. Received a copy in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed is my own.

A witch and a vampire, and never the two shall love. Iris and Connor fell in love against all odds. Their separate back stories were so full of heartache you just wanted to cry. But both are strong characters and you just want to pump your fist for them when they beat those odds. The story line was great and the character development was as well. Another great start to a series. Can't wait for the next one. I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.

** Read as part of the Dark and Damaged: Eight Tortured Heroes of Paranormal Romance ** ~ 3.5 Blood Flame Stars ~ Blood Flame is book one in the Flame series by Caris Roane. This one started out good, but the more I read the more some things just did not work for me. It is an interesting concept and world that these characters live in. There are five alter species, which are genetic mutations of some drug that runs free/un-checked, so the people are not changed by there choosing. We never find out how this drug got started and all these creatures vampires, witches, shifters, wizards, and fae got put into this world. There is a little world building and what we do learn is not nice. This world is dark and corruption runs deep in all five areas of the zones the supernaturals now live in. Many of the species do not play nice together. As for the storyline things move fast with the plot and the relationship between Connor, Vampire and Iris, Witch. These two have a strong attraction/pull to each other and they never full understand why they do. As relationships go this was fast-paced and not less then 48hrs into being together to solve who wants them dead, they are in love and a marriage proposal happens (a little farfetched for me). Also we get a lot of pinning over dead spouses and a life lost when they where changed into supernatural creatures. Overall, Blood Flame was an ok read. It was not fully for me, but if you find the blurb intriguing you should give it a try.

James Connor is a vampire working as a Border Officer of the Crescent Territory. He's good at what he does, but he's driven by guilt. The darkness of his past haunts him. Why is he drawn to Iris Meldeere? She's a powerful witch who could kill him with a touch, but he wants her. They're assigned to work a double murder and suddenly they're in danger. Who is setting them up? Blood Flame is filled with non-stop action and suspense. I was hooked from the first page. Connor and Iris are strong, powerful characters. They do their job and and won't back down. They can put aside their differences and work together to find the perpetrator. This commitment make them powerful. These characters are complex and I was quickly drawn into their world. I loved watching them given into their desire and fall in love. My one wish was to know more about the corrupt officials that governed this world. I felt their shadowy presence but wanted to see them. Caris Roane does a wonderful job building this world. I'm looking forward to learning more in the next book in The Flame Series.

Gifted for an honest review. Caris Roane's new Flame Series. Blood Flame follows Crescent Boarder Patrol vampire Connor and Witch Iris of Elegance. Both were changed due to being injected with the alter serum from human to their present paranormal being. If these two groups are suppose to be enemies why do they have a romantic connection that neither can deny? Read this new book and find out how Connor and Iris are connected in the past.
