The legacy of the Black Dagger Brotherhood continues in this gripping spin-off series from #1 New York Times bestselling author J.R. Ward.

Paradise, blooded daughter of the king’s First Advisor, is ready to break free from the restrictive life of an aristocratic female. Her strategy? Join the Black Dagger Brotherhood’s training center program and learn to fight for herself, think for herself. It’s a good plan, until everything goes wrong. The schooling is unfathomably difficult, the other recruits feel more like enemies than allies, and it’s very clear that the Brother in charge, Butch O’Neal, a.k.a. the Dhestroyer, is having serious problems in his own life.

And that’s before she falls in love with a fellow classmate. Craeg, a common civilian, is nothing her father would ever want for her, but everything she could ask for in a male. As an act of violence threatens to tear apart the entire program, and the erotic pull between them grows irresistible, Paradise is tested in ways she never anticipated--and left wondering whether she’s strong enough to claim her own power...on the field, and off.

This was an amazing read! I am a huge fan of the BDB series and this new spinoff series has started off with a bang! All the new BDB recruits seem incredibly interesting. I wish there were more of them. JR Ward has a writers gift of creating unique characters that rock the action. This book also had a lot of Butch & Marissa, a couple from Lover Revealed that is one of my favorite in the BDB series. It is always fun to catch up on older characters in a series. Something most authors just recap in Christmas specials. Just one more way JR Ward goes above & beyond! Another of my favorites in the BDB series is Rhage & Mary's story, Lover Eternal. I hear there will be some continuation of their story in The Beast coming out soon. I am reeeeeally looking forward to that, immensely! Anyway, I highly recommend reading Blood Kiss, as well as the entire Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I know you'll get hooked, just like me. Happy reading to my fellow bookworms!

What can I was great. Way to go J.R. Ward! I was swept away by the best writer......with the best series ever!!!!! I loved the way that most of the brothers were included in the story. I felt it has been too long sine we last read about them. Paradise is an amazing young women. Not only does she work for the King, but she wans to join the BDB training. Does she have what it takes to succeed? After all she is a young women and not only that, she has high standards that she must live up to. In walks Craeg ( who wants to join the BDB as well). She thinks he is totally hot, but didn't have the balls to talk to him......inside she knows something is different about that tall handsome guy. But what........ I love it that the story included a lot about Butch and Marissa. Sure Butch has been through a lot, but in this also focuses on Marissa. Is Marissa strong enough to deal with everything that was tossed her way? After all, she works for the crisis center and dealing with battered women is diffocult enough, but a very badly beaten women was brought in......very bad shape. Marissa makes a promise to find out what happened.....but can she keep her promise? Read this book.......I Promise you will not be dissapointed! I hope there are more BDB books coming soon! I just can't get enough of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series!!!!!! Intrigued by Romance

An excellent read as always. It is great to have a new generation of warriors and their stories come along but, I'm still waiting to see what happened to some of the original character's and find out how their lives unfolded. For example; did Layla have her baby? Did I miss it? She should have had it even before Beth did because she was pregnant before her but somehow that didn't happen. Also, I still feel heart sick for Saxton and wonder what happened to him. What about Scor and Throe? These are some loose ends that need to be tied up. IMO. ..........................................................................................

I'm not going to lie for a while I had my doubts that I would love this book as much as I do. The first 6 installments in the series I was in love then I slowly started having a hard time keeping track because of the way things bounced back and forth it was like reading four stories at once when all I wanted was the story of the characters I know and love. This book has given me new hope for the series. Can not wait for the next installment

Blood Kiss is book 1 in the Black Dagger Legacy series. It's been forever since I've read a J.R. Ward book and figured this would be a good start to her work again. My issue with one of her previous BDB books was the writing style changed and the secondary character's POVs took the spotlight more so than the leading characters. While this did occur in this book, I found it didn't bother me as much this time around. Paradise is tired of living the life of an aristocratic female, always kept firmly in her place as the daughter to the king’s First Advisor. She decides to break free and join the Black Dagger Brotherhood’s training center program. She wants to learn to think for herself and how to fight and that's exactly what she does. Paradise and Craeg manage to make it through the culling of the potential candidates but both seem to have a protective instinct for each other from the start. Naturally, they're drawn to one another as the days pass and I really enjoyed their POVs while they were going through the training. We get to see several of the original cast from the BDB series POV's since they're leading the training center and the issues they are facing. We mainly get to see Butch and Marissa and they're having some major issues that they need to work through. While that wasn't my favorite bits sprinkled in, it was nice to see a continuation of their story. Blood Kiss made me want to revisit the BDB series where I left off. Since I'm still not completely sold on the multiple POVs I'd more than likely borrow the rest of the series via the library. I did like that we're seeing the younger generation's story now, so I will for sure get the next book in the series to see what happens next. If you're a fan of J.R. Ward's BDB series and haven't read this book yet I think you'd enjoy it.

I'm not sure what I expected from book one of the spin-off series, but this one just left me bored. Paradise and Craeg fell kind of flat for me. Their relationship wasn't as passionate as it could have been with how a BDB book typically goes, passion-wise. I wanted more. The strongest part was watching Butch and Marissa deal with some lows in their relationship. I wanted to like this but it just didn't keep my attention like I needed it to. The back story for Craeg and Axe was strong and the action on the first night of training was intense but once the 7 chosen candidates started actually training it came across almost YA-ish like we were dealing with teenagers and the romance was good just not BDB good. I hope Axe's book is better.

The thing I loved about this book even more than the story of Paradise and Craeg, which was awesome; was the continuing story we got of Butch and Marissa.  I mean their story was told way back in book 4, Lover Revealed! Book 4, I tell you!   Now we are on to book 15 with the upcoming release this year of The Chosen.  For those of you who haven’t read J.R. Ward’s fabulous Black Dagger Brotherhood series, and started with this book, stop now, go back and start from the beginning at Dark Lover.  I truly believe you must read the first series to appreciate and understand the second.  In Paradise’s world of being an aristocrat, it is unheard of her joining the Black Dagger Brotherhood training program.  It just isn’t done.  However, she breaks society norms and does it anyway.  She wants to learn to defend herself and be free of the constraints of her class and position.  What she didn’t plan on was finding a male she wants as her own.  I loved that they gave her a chance and didn’t let her being a high breed female stand in her way. Craeg, has lost everyone he has loved and is out for revenge.  Revenge against the Lessers and revenge against the aristocrats that he blames for his family’s death.  He joins the program to find that revenge.  What he didn’t plan on was finding Paradise.   This was the first book of Ward’s that I listened to instead of reading and I loved the narration.  The sample didn’t do the book justice.  I think I will be buying audiobooks from now on.  I loved, it and I can’t wait for more.
