"To be or not to be immortal" that is the question and one which Adelin has to ponder. Adelin is a normal teenager who finds out that her mother did not die years ago but was murdered and was made into an Immortal. Sera was pregnant with Adelin so the genes were passed on and now Adelin has a choice to make, she can take a human life and become Immortal like her mother on her birthday or do nothing and remain human. To make a conscious choice, her father allows her to visit her mother on Black Island and take some time to get to know each other. Complications set in when she meets Vraiden, son of Moira Black a pure blood immortal and Adelin is drawn to him though he is definitely the bad boy. He admits to enjoying the chase, killing young innocent girls and torturing them to death. This knowledge would have made me run a mile but Adelin sees something in him that sparks a flame and she is falling for him despite everything. Lucien is the good brother, sarcastic and in your face but he values mortals and was in love with one himself once. Lots of twists and turns, a love triangle of sorts but not between the two brothers and an ending that I did not see coming. Decisions that Vraiden and Adelin made have far reaching consequences that will haunt them both forever. I really enjoyed this book and I was turning the pages quickly to find out what happened, happily ever afters are over-rated right? Hopefully we won't have to wait too long to read the next book in the series.
