Bloodshot's nanites made him a nearly unstoppable killing machine. His enhanced strength, speed,
endurance, and healing made him the perfect weapon, and he served his masters at
Project Rising Spirit - a private contractor trafficking in violence - very well. Now, Bloodshot is a shadow of his former self. He lives in self-imposed exile, reeling from the consequences of his past life and the recent events that nearly drove him mad. But when a rash of shootings by gunmen who appear to look just like Bloodshot begin, his guilt will send him on a mission to stop the killers, even if it means diving head-long into the violence that nearly destroyed him.

Over the years I've heard a lot about both Bloodshot and the Valiant Universe but found myself too overwhelmed by their extensive back catalog to dive in. However, when I discovered that Bloodshot Reborn was available as an advance review copy and was written by Jeff Lemire I didn't hesitate. Fortunately, I was not disappointed with Bloodshot Reborn as my first foray into the Valiant Universe and the Bloodshot series. Although there were a handful of references to past events and other characters it never became distracting. Lemire does a great job of writing in a way that appeals to both new and old readers by filling in the gaps without noticeable info-dumps. Accompanying Lemire's superb writing was fantastic art. The artwork in Bloodshot Reborn tells just as much of the story as the writing and takes full advantage of the space on any given page by using engaging composition and beautiful splash pages to completely immerse the reader. However, I did find the constant artist change to be a bit distracting. Overall, Bloodshot Reborn was a great introduction to the character and the Valiant universe and left me wanting more. I do plan on going through the back catalog of Bloodshot and reintroducing myself to the character from the beginning.
