Chapter 1

I rubbed my fingertips in circular motions on Mrs. Landon’s scalp, my gaze fixed on the TV mounted in the corner of To Dye For, the salon I worked at.

“This is so relaxing. I could just fall asleep right here,” Mrs. Landon said. “And that shampoo smells heavenly. Is that peppermint?”

“Yes, it sure is,” I said in the upbeat tone I always used with customers.

Normally I would have struck up a conversation about her summer plans since it was May and she was a teacher. Or I’d have asked her how her kids were doing.

But not today. Today I couldn’t look away from CNN, which was covering the tornadoes that had touched down this afternoon in Missouri. The damage was widespread and included cellular towers. I told myself that was why Colby hadn’t texted me all afternoon. It had to be why.

“Isn’t that a shame about those storms?” Mrs. Landon said as I rinsed away the suds. “I heard on the radio that a school was hit. They’re calling in the National Guard.”

“That’s terrible,” I murmured, squinting to read the headlines scrolling across the bottom of the screen.

“Isn’t your fiancé one of those storm chasers? You’re engaged to Carla Harrington’s boy, aren’t you?”

“Yeah,” I said absently. “Colby. He’s in Missouri now with the rest of his team.”

She whipped her head around to look at me, showering me with droplets of water.

“Well, is he okay?” she practically demanded.

“I don’t know. I haven’t been able to reach him this afternoon.”

“Oh sweet Jesus. Carla must be beside herself. Have you talked to her?”

I shook my head. “I’m not panicked. Colby’s probably still tracking storms or helping with rescue. He’ll call me when he can.”

She grunted skeptically. “Well, I’d be worried sick if the man I loved was out in that mess. It’s foolhardy if you ask me, chasing a tornado. We’re meant to run away from them.”

I wanted to point out that I hadn’t asked her, and that storm chasers put their lives in danger to save others, but I forced myself to stay quiet. Shampoo Girl Rule Number One: never upset a customer.

My job was to shampoo, condition and make light conversation. I also waxed the occasional upper lip, though I wasn’t licensed to do it. I wouldn’t touch brows, though. That took finesse. An upper lip was hard to mess up.
I conditioned and rinsed Mrs. Landon and wrapped a towel around her head. When she sat up, she passed me a couple of folded bills.

“Thank you, Drew. I hope Colby’s okay.”

I smiled. “Thank you, Mrs. Landon. Bet you’re looking forward to summer.”

“You have no idea,” she said, rolling her eyes. “It’s been a long year.”

My boss, Shayla, called Mrs. Landon over to her chair and I went to the front desk to check messages and return calls. I was closer to the TV, and I could read the headlines now.

nine confirmed dead . . .

factory leveled by storm . . .

couple narrowly escapes twister . . .

I swallowed hard. Every time Colby left for a storm-chasing trip, I felt a surge of pride. He was brave and bold. He cared about others enough to go away for weeks at a time in hopes of saving lives. It wasn’t thrill-seeking for him. The leader of his five-man crew was a meteorologist running a research project. They studied weather patterns to predict and identify bad weather so people could take cover when storms were approaching. But the nature of the work always put them at risk.

They were safe, I mentally reassured myself as I returned calls and scheduled appointments. He was only twenty-six, but he’d been doing this for almost a decade. He’d been shown the ropes by the father of one of his friends and had fallen hard for storm chasing.

I was given a gifted copy by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Drew works as a shampooist in a salon. She is happy because in several weeks she is getting married. Unfortunately, one day returning home from some storm chasing, Colby, her boyfriend, is run over by a car while helping somebody on the highway. Being seriously injured, the doctors advised to disconnect him from life support. One year later Drew decided to go storm chasing with Colby’s team. Aiden lost his parents and sister to a tornado when he was a young teenager. That was the reason why he joined the chasing group. He had always had a thing for Drew but when his boss from the chasing group paired him with Drew he is not very happy. He thinks of her as Colby’s fiancée. The book is well-written, quick to read and I enjoyed it a lot. I liked how the relationship between Drew and Adrien got stronger every day in spite of all their doubts and insecurities. I liked Adrien because of his loyalty and selfless personality. And finally, I felt connected with Drew’s decision about what to do with her life at the end of the book.

Favorite Quotes: “Colby was gone. In all the ways that mattered, his light had stopped shining on a rainy highway early this morning." "Dot shook her head and pulled a large white bra from the dryer. She held it high for me. 'You enjoy that body while you can missy. Someday you'll have to load your boulders into one of these.'" "Her eyes searched mine, waiting for a reaction. It reached something inside me that brought a lump of emotion to my throat. I mattered to her. In this world we all needed a safe place where we could bring our wild ideas and expose our vulnerability, and I was hers." My Review: Blown Away was my first Brenda Rothert read and will be one of many. I found her work to be entertaining, engaging, and a pleasant surprise. The storyline was interesting, developed quickly, and was easy to follow. The writing was highly emotive and full of feels with welcome hits of humor and steamy sensuality. The characters were endearing, complex, well drawn, and squeezed my heart. Ms. Rothert has a new fangirl.

It's fitting that the story was centered around storm-chasers. There is so much back and forth between Aiden and Colby that the weather is not the only cause of turbulence. Blown Away is a story about learning to move forward when the whirlwind of life upsets the plans you've made. Blown Away displays every emotion under the sun from grief, guilt, anger, compassion and love's healing power. It's a tough ride getting through the storm winds but the calm after the darkness is worth the heartache along the way.

Wow! What an intense and emotional read. I was a little hesitant about starting to read this book because after reading the blurb, I knew I would need tissues. And you do, right from the start. But the book going forward was not as heavy as I thought it would be. The story between Drew and Aiden was beautiful, flowed fantastically, and kept me invested the entire time. Drew and Aiden worked together on a storm chasing team. This was very therapeutic for both of them individually and together. And it also brought them together relationship wise. I loved the pull between them, cried during one very tough emotional scene and smiled at their happy ending. I received this book in exchange for an honest review through Netgalley.

Review 5 Star Review The title says it all, I was Blown Away with this book. I picked it up on a Sunday morning and didn't put it down till Sunday afternoon. This is a love story set around storm chasing a very different type of romance to what I'm used to. A year after Drew loses her storm chasing fiancé in a accident she is offered the chance to join his old team for a month of storm chasing. She needs to move on with her life and this seems to be the perfect opportunity but what she doesn't expect to happen is for her to fall for Aiden who was Colby's best friend. Will Aiden show his feelings or will he hide behind the sex with no strings angle. The characters in this book are loveable and fun, you can't help loving Tex who has no filter on his mouth or Dot the grandmother we would all love to have. But you can't forget this is book written around natural tragedy that happens regularly Brenda Rothert covered this weather phenomenon with sensitivity . I loved this book and I hope the other characters in this team get their own books down the line.

This was a fast, sweet read about being willing to take a second chance at love and life after surviving a devastating loss. Both Aiden and Drew had lost loved ones in the past and recent past and were picking up the pieces the best they could. When Drew is given the opportunity to go storm chasing (the same thing her fiancée did before dying) she jumps at the opportunity realizing she is ready for a change. Aiden is surprised but not too thrilled to be having Drew join the storm watching team. In addition to being her fiancées best friend, Aiden has also been in love with Drew for along as Drew was together with her fiancée. Their new relationship stumbles initially but after a near tragedy they find their way together and come out stronger. The author did a great job describing the characters and writing the story from Aiden and Drew's point of view and the ten years later was a great way to end the story.

3 - "We’re supposed to chase our dreams together." Stars. Take a healthy dose of this the film Twister, and add in a healthy dose of simmering sexual tension... And that pretty much sums up Blown Away by Brenda Rothert. This is my first book by the author, and I enjoyed it well enough. I have to admit I was expecting a little more depth and emotion in relation to the reasonings that Drew and Aiden are initially connected, and the grief that both of them are inevitably working through, but it was all kept on the down-low for the most part. I was like a ship rolling along in the sea with no course. I am not a huge fan of drama-llamas so it worked for me in that aspect, but I can’t help but think that maybe Colby’s death was dealt with and moved along from pretty quickly in the first few chapters. Yes it is referenced and used along the way as part of the story-line in relation to why Aiden thinks he and Drew should not be together, being as the guy was his best friend, but it was never given any great depth. "I’m torn between wanting to move on and feeling guilty about it." Great premise for this one, Stormchasers aren’t known for playing a large part in the romantic story-line arena, and I liked that it offered up a different take on what would have been your bog standard; girl-gets-over-dead-fiance-with-his-best-friend trope. I’ve got no fear of anything but feelings. I can’t go there. I can’t say the book blew me away, but the authors writing style and characterisations weren’t difficult to get along with and it offered up a couple of hours reading entertainment. I’ll be interested to see if off the strength of Blown Away the author develops it into a series. ARC generously provided via Netgalley, in exchange for the above honest review.

This is a stand-alone book about storm chasing and romance. Drew McGovern lost her fiancé a year ago and is restless with her current situation. She decides to join his former storm chasing crew for a month chasing tornados around the Midwest. Aiden O’Neal has always pined for his best friend’s girl even after his friend’s tragic death. He can’t believe it when Drew joins the team. This story had suspense with the storms and rescue situations that Aiden finds himself in as an experienced technical rescuer. They are both reluctant to give into their attraction for each other, but circumstances help to push them together – literally. This is a cute story and had enough secondary characters and drama to keep it interesting. I didn’t really like the side story towards the end about the dead fiancé – I felt it was unnecessary, but I enjoyed the rest of the book.

Emotionally charged with lots of sexual tension. This was my first book by Brenda Rothert and what a great introduction to her writing it was. The story is told in first-person with chapters alternating between Drew and Aiden. We already know from the book blurb that Drew’s fiancé, Colby, died. Chapters 1 and 2 are kind of a prologue to the main story giving us more detail about what happened to Colby. The story then picks up one year later.Aiden was Colby’s best friend. He was attracted to Drew from the first time he met her but Colby got to her first and they ended up engaged. Now that Colby is dead Aiden feels guilty about the feelings he has for Drew and he also feels like he’s not good enough for her. After a year of grieving Drew has decided to get on with her life and impulsively joins the storm chasing team that Colby was a part of; a team that Aiden is still on. When Drew is assigned to partner with Aiden he doesn’t know how he’ll be able to handle being next to her in a car all day. This story is filled with sexual tension between Drew and Aiden. They spend hours with each other and Aiden alternates between lusting after Drew and pushing her away. When they finally get together the sexy time is HOT! There is liberal use of strong language throughout the book. Parts of this story were very emotional and I found it hard to put down. I love books that have an epilogue and the one for this story is fantastic! It lets us know how Drew and Aiden are doing several years after the main story concludes. This might have been my first Brenda Rothert book but it won’t be my last one. ****Reviewed for Xtreme-Delusions****

She'd never meet another man like him. I'd never have another friend like him. Fate had stolen something precious from both of us. And I wasn't giving fate any more cracks at me. Drew McGovern has had to be the rock, the strong one, for her family for as long as she can remember. When Drew loses her fiancée, Colby, unexpectedly, she doesn't think that she'll ever get over it, choosing instead to bury herself in her work and in routine. When Drew has the chance to join Colby's team of storm chasers, she sees it as a chance to step outside herself, to feel a little closer to Colby by experiencing the things that he did. "I've been thinking today about finding a new challenge, and that feels good...It's probably just a mood, I'm sure it'll pass." "Grab hold of the mood before it passes...Life's too short not to." What Drew doesn't expect, though, is just how important Aiden O'Neal, Colby's best friend, and also part of the team, will become to her. Since the loss of his family to a killer tornado, Aiden has refused to open his heart, afraid to lose another person. Although he'd loved Colby like a brother, Aiden has always harbored feelings for Drew, and the close quarters and constant togetherness once Drew joins the team prove to be the ultimate temptation. Brenda Rothert's books are always go-to reads for me, and BLOWN AWAY is one that I was really looking forward to. I very much enjoyed the whole idea of the storm chasers, and was more than happy to live vicariously through them. The attraction between Drew and Aiden creates a delicious and sexy tension, and the rest of the characters make it all the more entertaining a read. In the end, BLOWN AWAY is about trust, about love, and about stepping outside of our comfort zones, all of which help us become the best versions of ourselves. 4 thoughtful, exciting, adventurous, and sexy stars for Brenda. I can't wait to see what she has coming up for us next.

This book I picked up for review because it sounded interesting with a completely different story line than anything I've read before. So I hadn't really put a lot of thought into what I was expecting other than I figured it was just a light passing story. I was wrong. Blown Away came as a big surprise to me. When you take a unique story thread and you add in smokin' hot male species that we love to have in our romance novels and a perfectly matched sweet gal, you have the basis have an awesome read. These two characters have much in common in terms of broken and sheltered hearts but the author develops a beautiful connection that crosses over the pain and creates a burning passion between them. The issue is can they open their hearts and let the past go? I loved this story. Loaded with HOT sexual tension and panty-dropping scenes, the author has imaginative descriptives that throw you right into the middle of the story. You will be melting right along with every other person that reads this. Steamy and a guaranteed new book boyfriend in Aiden. YUMMMM! Brenda Rothert knows how to write romance that we want to read! Sooo good! * copy received for review purposes

I was blown away by this book (haha get it)! This book takes you through such a roller coaster of emotions. Immediately your heart is ripped out and then stomped on and then a huge semi backs up all over it just to make sure you are utterly destroyed. Then comes along this amazing man with super glue and finds every last piece and puts you back together but somehow even better than before. Drew has lived a hard life and had all of her dreams right at her finger tips when it was pulled away from here. Feeling completely lost without her other half; an amazing opportunity gets placed in her lap. She takes a huge leap and goes storm chasing with my fiances storm chasing group. The last thing she expected was to find the perfect man for her who would protect her, show her a whole new world and help her find her place in this world. Aiden has had a crappy hand at life. He has experienced more loss than most people experience in their whole life. He's different though. He doesn't allow the tragedies to defeat him. Instead he finds a way to make sure nobody else feels the same pain he went through. This dude is seriously what heros are made of. If that doesn't make you soon enough then the image of him definitely will. Plus who doesn't want to play damsel in distress when you have a hottie with a body coming to the rescue! I'm completely off track now! Aiden has always been in love with Drew but it got there too late and had to watch his best friend make her his. The last thing he wanted was to spend weeks with the woman of his friends everywhere he turned and not being able to claim her. Love and fate have different plans though. These two seriously were amazing. I love how well developed their characters were and you were really rooting for each of them. Plus you got too feel the adrenaline they were feeling as they were chasing storms. Ya'll will seriously love this book!

I received an eARC, from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. This was a very different story in the romance world I thought. It was about storm chaser and also about lost love. Really good book and sucks you right in. Drew McGovern was all set to marry the man she loved but he is a storm chaser. One day when she is expecting him to come home she ends up with a policeman at her door. It seems her fiancé died in an accident. Drew goes on to morn him for about a year. Then Drew decides to take up storm chasing too. Aiden O’Neal was Drew's fiance' friend and has always loved Drew from their first meeting. Now he finds that Drew wants to take up storm chasing and is very upset by it. This starts their new love to getting over the past and moving forward. I would recommend this book. Thanks to Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept via NetGalley for this book! I have a double first on this one! I've never read a book by Brenda Rothert and I've never read a book about storm chasers! Drew takes up storm chasing as a way to honor her fiance that died. She does this with her fiance's best friend Aiden. What happens when sparks fly between Aiden and Drew? This book is told from various points of view and was easy to follow. Sometimes dual POVs are just too much, this one was fine. This was an interesting story and a quick read (best of both worlds)

3 1/2 stars for me. Drew is at a turning point in her life. After losing her fiance, Cole, in a tragic accident she realizes she is stuck and needs a change. When she given the opportunity to chase storms with her fiances crew, she jumps on it like a lifeline. Aiden was Cole's best friend and team mate. He has always harbored deep feelings for Drew. He struggle with the guilt of liking his best buds girl. When he discovers she is joining the team, he does everything to push the attraction away. I really like how the author, Brenda Rothert, showed real emotions of the main characters. How difficult is to begin anew after losing a love. How Drew felt guilt over lusting after his feelings for Drew. When Drew accidentally spies on Aiden in a compromising position, she suddenly sees him in a different light. I would have like a little more storm chasing, but overall I enjoyed this story. I received a copy of this book from publisher via Netgally, in exchange for an honest review.

This story shows that hearts have a place for more than one person. Drew is ready for marriage but fate steps in. As time passes, she grows restless and wants to figure out who she really is. Up pops an opportunity to join her late fiance's storm chasing team, and she decides to challenge herself to see why he had loved it so much. Aiden is part of that team, and they are thrown together. His past keeps him from giving himself totally to anyone in the long term. Drew pushes him to the edge until they get caught in a storm. I enjoyed the growth of their characters, allowing them to move beyond the past. I highly recommend this story.

Drew has a good life, working at To Dye For (salon), with her friends; it will only get better soon since she'll be getting married! She always feared for Colby, her fiance, working as a storm chaser. Then, the day she fears, happens; police arrive at her door and she learns her fiance has been killed in a highway accident! Her grief is real and deep. Later, not satisfied with her life, she decides to try something new. She becomes part of Colby's team... Stirring story of loss, storm chasers and romance. Lively enjoyable characters and dialog. Not as action intense with storm chasing as I'd thought it would be. Enjoyable read. Book free through Netgalley for honest review.

The blurb for this book really sucked me in. I had not read anything tailored around Storm Chasing before so I was excited to read something different and overall I wasn't disappointed. The story itself was engaging and held my attention throughout. I though it flowed really well and didn't stagnate at all. There was a good mix of romance, action, steam and angst and overall the emotional sections really hit home. The characters themselves were likeable and their chemistry was certainly believable. If I were to grumble at all, Aiden's mixed signals and reluctance at times, were a little irritating, however, overall this was an enjoyable quick read and one that left me with a smile. 3.5 stars I was gifted a copy of this book from the Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is my first Brenda Rothert book and I fell in love. I enjoy a good twister movie and the synopsis of this book drew me in. I was excited and anxious and cried in the first chapter. I was lost in the atmosphere and the adventure of the chase. To me the love story was secondary to the mission of Aiden and the demons he battled. Him and Drew were kindred souls finding where they belonged and all along I was on the journey with them. This was a great book and I look forward to many more.

ARC NetGalley - Drew and Aiden have known each other from afar for several years. Aiden has always had a thing for Drew but never acted on it because she was his friend, Colby's girlfriend and then finance'. After a tragedy, Drew is forced to move on with her life and Aiden knows he is unable to comfort her and be what she needs. Drew finds herself restless one year later and decides to join the storm chasing team to see what it brings. Aiden is against it because he knows that her being in close proximity to him is going to cause problems. Both of them get cold feet and push the other away at points because they are both afraid of their hearts getting crushed again. Aiden has his own tragic past that has put a mark on his soul that he thinks can't be erased. The story was interesting and it did remind me of Twister but in a good way. You get to see that the storm chasers are the first on the scene and help out the victims of tornadoes and it's not just science to them. I did like how both Aiden and Drew progressed in acknowledging their feelings and taking a chance. Very nicely done. Did enjoy the epilogue and how it wrapped it up.

Title: Blown Away Author: Brenda Rothert Genre: Contemporary Romance Format: Ebook Pages: 205 Rating: 4 Setting: Illinois and Twister Alley Main Characters: Drew, Aiden Supporting Characters: Murph, Tex, Millie Summary: Colby, Drew’s fiancé is a storm chaser… at least he was until he lost his life being a Good Samaritan and changing a strangers tire on the side of the highway. A year later, Drew still misses him and is feeling restless. Seeing Murph, he invites her to join the team for storm chasing. Accepting the invite, Drew begins to see Aiden for who he truly is and throws herself at him. Aiden, surprised that the girl of his dreams, albeit his best friend’s girl, is along for the trip and tries to ignore the advances. Will they be able to find love? Thoughts: This is the first book I’ve by Ms. Rothert and most likely will not be my last. The whole premise of the story intrigued me, storm chasing. Not something I could do but I have a ton of respect for those that do. I loved all the characters and their personalities. And the personal trials that Drew and Aiden had gone through up until that point just made them so much more real. A story of two hurting, broken, but strong people finding love, is there anything better than that? I received a free copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Overall this was a pretty good read. Two major themes in this one, storm chasing and a strained romance between the Aiden O'Neal and his deceased best friend's girl Drew McGovern. The storm chasing aspect of this one is really more of a backdrop. I've read much more exciting stories involving storm chasers (although this one does have it's moments), the real story is the relationship between Drew and Aiden and all the guilt that entails. I thought the author did a nice job with that part of the story. These were great characters and their chemistry was felt real. So overall this was a book I would definitely recommend.

“Fate had stolen something precious from both of us. And I wasn’t giving fate any more cracks at me.” “Love was scary as hell. Full of risks. But now that I knew what such a soul-deep burning for another person felt like, I couldn’t walk in the other direction.” Blown Away was a fantastic read from start to finish. One of the things that really caught my attention, was the synopsis of this story. The synopsis was intriguing and I just knew that this was a book I was going to have to check out. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Told from dual points of view, Blown Away follows the story of Aiden and Drew. For the past year, Drew has been just trying to move past the loss of her fiancee. Some days are harder than others. But, when her fiancees old storm chasing buddies invite her to go on a chase, she can’t say no. I mean, what better way to honor your fiancee’s memory than by experiencing something that he loved. What she didn’t plan on was Aiden. You see, Aiden was her fiancee’s closest friend. So, naturally she’d feel closer to him because of their friendship. However, there was more to it than that. There was just something about Aiden that spoke to her. Soon enough, her feelings for him will become undeniable…..Aiden is a ladies man. Commitment and relationships are the last thing on his mind. But, what you don’t know is that he’s had a thing for Drew since the moment he met her. Only, he doesn’t believe he can be the man that Drew deserves, so he’ll try anyway that he can to push her away and try to change her feelings. If only it was that easy. Will Aiden open his eyes and claim Drew for his own? Or will he miss out on the love that he never knew he wanted? I have to say, I really enjoyed Blown Away. I loved the story-line. I thought it was a lot of fun and entertaining. I loved the storm chasing aspect. It definite kept things interesting and exciting. I really liked Aiden and Drew. I thought they had great chemistry and I enjoyed their push and pull; their will they, won’t they. I loved seeing Drew transform from a ladies man, to a man in love and on a mission. Yes, he did frustrate me sometimes with the way that he was trying to put Aiden off, but ultimately, I think that added some really great angst to the story. Drew…my heart broke for her in the way that she lost her fiancee. But, I really loved seeing her find herself again and take a chance on love. Aiden was exactly what she needed in her life. He was tough, sexy, and definitely had some alpha moments. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun read filled with lots of angst, romance and exciting weather! This is my first book by this author, and I have to say, I’m really looking forward to checking out more from her in the future. *I was provided an ARC copy of this book, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review*
