About the Author

Like most of her characters, Tess Thompson hails from a small town and will always feel like a small town girl, despite the fact she’s lived in Seattle for over twenty-five years. She loves music and dancing, books and bubble baths, cooking and wine, movies and snuggling. She cries at sappy commercials and thinks kissing in the rain should be done whenever possible. Although she tries to act like a lady, there may or may not have been a few times in the last several years when she’s gotten slightly carried away watching the Seattle Seahawks play, but that could also just be a nasty rumor.

She currently lives in a suburb of Seattle, Washington with her brand new husband, the hero of her own love story, and their Brady Bunch clan of two sons, two daughters and five cats, all of whom keep her too busy, often confused, but always amazed. Yes, that’s four kids and five cats. Pray for her.

After forty-five year old Blythe Heywood's thirteen year marriage ends in divorce when her husband leaves her for a younger woman, she is left devastated and uncertain of what to do next with her life. While packing up the remainder of her belongings from the marital home that was sold, Blythe finds a scrap of paper stuck in the back of her bedside table. The paper takes Blythe back to the past ... thirteen years ... when she traveled a month before her wedding to Peregrine, Idaho to attend the Sun Valley Folk Music Festival. While at the festival Blythe met thirty-six year old Finn Lanigan, and spent a three-day weekend with him. While the affair was innocent, they only shared a few kisses, there was something between them, a connection that Blythe never felt before or since, but Finn was her road not taken, and when their shared weekend came to an end, Blythe returned home to honor her commitment to marry Michael Graham. But Finn's last words stayed with her all these years ... "if you change your mind, here's this..." a note with his name and number, and one last kiss under an Idaho star-filled night ... When Michael remarries and takes their two children on his honeymoon to Hawaii for three weeks, Blythe's sister Bliss convinces her to take a road trip back to Peregrine, to that road not taken, and find Flinn. Blythe's road trip to Peregrine will be a journey of self-discovery that will change her life and even bring a second chance at love. Blue Midnight is a wonderful story of self-discovery and second chances. Author Tess Thompson weaves a magical tale of romance with a mixture of mysticism, mystery and suspense that easily draws the reader into Blythe Heywood's story. Set in Seattle, Washington and Peregrine, Idaho, the reader follows Blythe on her emotional journey back to the road not taken, a journey of self-discovery and unexpected second chances that will change her life. I love author Tess Thompson's smooth flowing style of storytelling. She easily draws the reader in as she weaves a spellbinding tale of romance with a touch of mystery and suspense. As this complex and multi-layered story unfolds with elements of lost love, disappointment, betrayal, heartbreak, family drama, secrets, loss, forgiveness, and unexpected second chances, the reader is swept away with the raw emotions, drama, and intriguing twists and that will keep them captivated and turning the pages. Blue Midnight is a captivating story of taking an emotional journey back to the road not taken and truly finding oneself.

Many women have faced it, mid-forties, divorced, a stay-at-home mom, now alone, left for a younger, more vibrant replacement. Left with the big questions: Why? Now what? When will it stop hurting? Then there is always the biggest question of all, whatever happened to the One That Got Away? On what was practically the eve of her wedding, Blythe met a man and all of the magic of love, soulmates and happily ever after was standing right in front of her, but being ever so responsible, she left a huge piece of her heart in a small town hours from home. When Blythe came across the phone number Flinn had given her thirteen years before, just in case she changed her mind about her wedding, she started on a journey to find the road not taken. To see if what they shared was real. What she finds is a tall and handsome man, who sends her head spinning, but he is not Flinn. Little did she know the connection Kevan had to Flinn, or the joys and pain these two had shared. What she did discover were skeletons in the closet of a small town, whispered gossip and vicious rumors, all covering a dark secret, lies, mistrust and a wealthy family torn apart. The most damaged pawn among them was a teenaged girl, who lost both her mother and her favorite uncle, as she is forced to be a puppet to the dark whims of her twisted boyfriend and his father. Through it all, Blythe forges ahead to discover the truth about two people who died under mysterious circumstances and reunite a family torn by doubt. In the process, she also discovers the inner strength to see into her own life and her own heart as she learns to live for the present and not look back on the past or wait for a future that may never come unless she makes it happen. Flat out, Blue Midnight started firmly appearing to be one genre, but had the strength to morph into one that crosses several. From a bleak tale of a woman lost and bitter to a mystery to be solved, to a tale of personal growth, discovery and second chances at life and love, Tess Thompson has written with a strong hand, guiding her characters along without getting lost in too many details as she centers the spotlight on Blythe, the inner Blythe and the Blythe she has become. Wonderful writing, realistic characters, spot on dialogue and gut-clenching emotion, this journey is one to be savored, enjoyed and celebrated, because in there is a tale of human growth and acceptance of life as it is played out.

I liked this book showing us recently divorced Blythe, who is suddenly without her two children for three weeks. Since they are her whole life she doesn't know what to do with herself. Her sister, Bliss, tells her she "has to" take a road trip so Blythe decides to go to Idaho to find a man she met 13 years earlier; before she was married. This is an amazing adventure for Blythe where she finds she is more than just a mother. I really liked the two main characters, Blythe and Kevan, and how well developed they were.  I loved that the secondary characters were not only well described but that some of these characters were unusual and eccentric. It was nice to see the heroine go from a mother who is completely absorbed with her children to become interested in her own self and other people. One of the things that was particularly interesting was how Blythe looked into a mystery while in Idaho. I don't want to give anything away so you will have to read Blue Midnight to find out more about the mystery. I enjoyed this book and recommend it. Please note I received a complementary copy of Blue Midnight in exchange for my honest review.

Tess Thompson is definitely one of my auto-buy authors! I love her writing style. Her characters are so real to life that you just can't put the book down once you start! I'm excited to see that this book is the beginning of a series. I can't wait to see which brother gets their story next. Or will it be a sister? I know, whoever it is, I will rush to get it as soon as it's out. Blue Midnight makes you believe in second chances. It makes you believe that everyone deserves an HEA. I loved the twists and turns in this book, the mystery and suspense, the family dynamics and the restoration of trust and security. I really enjoyed Blythe's walk down the path not taken and realizing something even better than she imagined. Run grab this book and sit down for hours of enjoyment. You'll be glad you did.

Although the description of humanity seems very accurate , there was too much unreality to give it 5 stars . Enjoyable read, despite the predictable outcome .
