I was a teenager when President Kennedy was assassinated and like most Americans was greatly impacted by this tragedy and the events that followed in the late 1960s. Chris Matthew made this turbulent decade come alive with an in depth focus on how Robert Kennedys convictions evolved (for the good regarding civil rights and Vietnam) much like many Americans did. A must read that certainly adds to Robert Kennedys legacy leaving the reader with a profound sense of loss and thoughts of what might have been if he had become President!

I now have an understanding of what drove Bobby to be relentless about fighting injustice. And how truly special Bobby was even in his formative years. This book has caused me to love appreciate Bobby even more and I didn't think that was possible because you see Bobby has been my hero since the early sixties. He was killed two weeks after my 20th birthday and it seemed the world had gone to hell. He would have been a great president. Truly as the song goes, the good die young.

Having coming of age during the fifties and sixties, Matthew's book was a personal experience for me

After discovering that I am 13 days older than the author, Chris Matthews , I knew that his insights into the time frame of this book would be incredibly relevant to me. In my senior year in high school , 1963, I experienced the devastating loss of President Kennedy. In my senior year in college in April 1968 I watched with great concern the news of MLK's assassination and wondered what was happening to our nation Then two days before my graduation from college my roommate woke me up to tell me that RFK had been assassinated as well. This book was a revelation to me about the behind the scenes machinations that were occurring during this period I LOVED it. It's a must read for anyone who was even modestly politically inclined during this period and would love to know the "inside story!" A great read while being incredibly interesting !

That one life lost, that would have saved more lives than any other event in American history. The Vietnam war would have ended 4 years earlier and gun control would have been taken serious in the late 60's. Great story abou a great American.

Fifty years later, our ripples of hope and God’s grace will bring wisdom to our nation and make America ... America again. Chris Matthews’ presentation of Bobby Kennedy refreshes “the shaping impulse of America that neither fate nor nature nor the irresistible tides of history, but the work of our own hands, matched to reason and principle, that will determine our destiny.
