In today¿s world, there are myriad paths from which to choose, and deciding upon the one that is right for you, the one you will have to live with for the rest of your life, can be a daunting proposition for any young man or woman about to cross the threshold to adulthood. What do you choose and how do you choose? Is it best to follow your heart or your intellect? Or must one merely follow the dictates of society? All of this, and more, is explored in 'Body of A Horse, Heart of A Man,' by Rhonda L. Davis. An enchanting story that offers a moral, life-lessons aplenty and characters to whom young women, especially, will readily identify, it follows the adventures of Diantha, who in the wake of a personal crisis and some unexpected, untoward events, is rescued by a Centaur named Atrius and spirited away to a magical valley where she comes to understand the things that really matter in life. Life in Concord Valley is simpler than what she has previously known there are no modern conveniences, and those with whom she comes in contact know the value of things like love, friendship and the benefits of truly caring for one¿s neighbor. And it is here that Diantha can at last take pause and decide which path her own life must take. All, of course, is not perfect in Concord Valley, and even as Diantha is settling in, her new home becomes threatened by the inhabitants of a neighboring valley. The ensuing events put Diantha at the heart of a journey of self-discovery that ultimately leads to her final decision about the direction of her own life. With 'Body of A Horse, Heart of A Man,' Davis offers a heartwarming and exciting tale that examines the importance of making decisions, facing up to responsibility and, most importantly, following the path that, in the end, you know is best for you. The message is delivered eloquently, the characters are well-drawn and memorable, and the author does an excellent job of providing strong role models for both young women and young men alike. In today¿s world that is a tall order, and Davis certainly delivers, with a novel that can be appreciated by readers of all ages.
