Bodyguard by CD Reiss

From New York Times bestselling author CD Reiss: Protecting a celebrity in Hollywood isn’t easy, but protecting Emily could break his heart.

As a world-class dancer at the height of her career, Emily enjoys all the perks of fame—the parties, the glamour, the tours—but they’ve also attracted the attention of a dangerous ex-boyfriend hell-bent on getting her back.

Enter Carter Kincaid, a bodyguard so crushingly sexy he takes her breath away.

Carter’s the best in the business, and Emily is—professionally speaking—off-limits. But when it comes to stirring his desires, she’s making all the right moves. What’s happening between them is so hot it could get both of them burned. As Emily’s past gets closer, Carter is willing to break every rule of the job to save her. But letting Emily into his life also means letting her in on the secrets of his own past. For these two, falling in love could be the greatest risk of all.

About the Author

CD Reiss is a USA Today and Amazon bestselling author. Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California, to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere, but it did embed TV story structure well enough in her head for her to take a big risk on a TV-inspired erotic series called Songs of Submission. It’s about a kinky billionaire hung up on his ex-wife; an ingénue singer with a wisecracking mouth; and art, music, and sin in the city of Los Angeles.

Critics have dubbed the books “poetic,” “literary,” and “hauntingly atmospheric,” which is flattering enough for her to put it in a bio, but embarrassing enough for her not to tell her husband, or he might think she’s some sort of braggart who’s too good to give the toilets a once-over every couple of weeks.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

Size of my heart Emily is the choreographer for Darlene, a famous singer and her best friend. When she is being dangerously stalked, Darlene assigns one of her bodyguards to protect Emily. She gets the bodyguard with the sexiest name ever, Carter Kincaid, and he's all kind of sexy. Having to spend a lot of time together, they get close to one another and sparks starts to fly. But can Carter be able to protect her while having feelings for her, and what about the secrets? Reiss knows how to write delicious alphas that make you want to take a bite out of them or lick them. Not only was Carter sexy, he was lovable. I wanted to keep him to myself. Carter will have your ovaries exploding. Phil was another character that i really liked. The scenes with him were entertaining. Another thing that Reiss does well is pull at my heart. There were some heartwarming scenes, such as the "size of my heart" thing. Seriously, where does she get this ideas? Bodyguard was a bit predictable. I figured most of the things, even though with the couple of things that made me thing otherwise. There weren't big moments where it had me going "whoa, I didn't see that coming". I honestly, thought that there was going to be to the stalking angle. Also I felt that some things were resolved rather too quickly. Even then, it was enjoyable and did like the surprise or two that it had. I did notice that Bodyguard takes place before Bombshell. 4.25 stars

4.5 Stars If there is one thing about C.D. Reiss books, her words are unlike any other. Something about her writing style, it pulls you in from the get go. Bodyguard is no exception. Here we have 2 best friends who moved to California to live the dream. The dream that so many head out to California for. While Darlene is a Rockstar, Emily is her choreographer. Being in the spotlight, security is mandatory. Carter is that bodyguard with baggage. Like bigtime baggage… He chose the security field after leaving the police department so that he could handle his baggage on his terms. When Carter and Emily meet, they both feel the sparks. But neither one is in the right frame of mind to be in a relationship. As we travel through their back and forth of wanting a relationship, to denying the relationship, the story unfolds and we learn what is included in their baggage.

I was so excited to read this forbidden romance and I was not disappointed! There is just something about having a glimpse into the private lives of very public figures that is so captivating. This story is sweet and sexy but also poignant, emotional, and passionate. Ms. Reiss easily, and expertly pulled me in and made me feel every action and emotion. I felt like I was really there, right down to the smallest movement, without feeling like I was being told about it, just experiencing it. Carter is supposed to protect Emily from her dangerous stalker. But as their attraction builds, he can't protect Emily when he is so distracted. Their desire for each other is so explosive that they can't stay away from each other. But Carter has his own secrets that could tear them apart. I really grew to care for both Emily and Carter. They were so passionate, caring and authentic. The paths their lives took were beyond their control but they tried to make the best of it. Their banter is clever, and sexy and their chemistry is off the charts. The secondary characters were all genuine and added fun, tension and intrigue. I especially loved Carter's family and Emily's bff, Darlene. This is not an easy journey as they maneuver life in the public eye, but so worth the bumpy ride. I highly recommend this beautiful, emotional, exhilarating, poignant and sexy romance!

Bodyguard is the giddy warmth inducing sexual tension climbing kind of romance. Think about it! The hot bodyguard. The taboo. The tension of denial. The unavoidable chemistry. The physical connection you can feel across the room. It makes you giddy and warm. The tension and denial a result of the taboo. HOT!!! Better than just hot, the push pull is killer on the emotions. Drama from each other's lives. Yeah it's a fun read. It's got a sweet story and incredible tension. Oh and because it's Hollywood- name know...Michael Greydon, Brad some one or other...Sinclair. Cameos make the business right?!? Pop in and see if you recognize anyone else!

Bodyguard is a quick and entertaining read. Emily (our heroine) and Carter (our hero) are both well developed and likable characters. Emily is spunky but a little bit fragile and Carter is a straight forward Alpha type of guy. He likes to be in charge but he also goes out of his way to help and protect those who need it, which is a good character trait in a bodyguard. The secondary characters are also well written and interesting, especially Carter's family. There is a small amount of thriller to the story, but not anything really suspenseful or super violent (thank goodness). I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance.

5 "Fist size of my heart" stars  Its no secret that we, at BookBistroBlog utterly adore CD reiss's writing. Her books are a promise of excellent stories, very detailed and thoroughly researched plot and a new outlook to same old emotions of love and heartbreak. We get a ringside seat to Hollywood Circus in her new standalone series of Hollywood A-list in book 2.  Every celebrity has a bodyguard to protect themselves from stalkers, haters, crazy fans, groupies, clingy autograph seekers, lurkers, paparazzi, you name it, they have it. Beyond all the glitz and glamour, they are practically prisoners in a golden cage, a downside to fame and wealth. Darlene is a Rockstar singer & performer. She employs a bodyguard -Carter Kincaid , and her choreographer/best friend/ Sister from another mister -Emily Barett bumps into him and the moment their eyes lock, its instant Nervicitement for Emily. She's stalked and she needs protection and Carter protects like nobody can . Shes an excellent dancer and a singer too, her art just seeping from her every pore If there was ever a world-class security system, Carter Kincaid was it. “Memorize the following . . . Carter can handle himself.” But who protects Emily's heart from Carter. Cause he carries baggage . Yes , in plural ! He keeps his private life separate from business and they never meet. Although Emily somehow falls in the crack and is stuck there !!!! Emily is a lost soul. Alone , scared and living on the edge . Edge of fear because she has to look over her shoulders forever for her violently crazy ex. She finds solace in the arms of Carter but since she's his "Principal " professional conflict drops a barrier between them. And insurmountable wall which isolates Emily even more  I imagined a life with people around me. People who loved me. Noise. Talking. Plans and preparations around each other. A life that buzzed with love. I didn’t picture it as unsafe. I didn’t feel the lockdown. Didn’t make sure the imaginary doors were locked. The safety didn’t come from dead bolts, alarms, and closed-circuit monitors. The safety came from family. The story is obviously fantastic, its Christine's treatment that takes it to a mercurial high note. The sexual connection between them so scorching hot , you can feel the pages burn. I could feel and taste the passion so thick , craving so deep, it was a bummer they couldnt be tigether & had to go back to their corners.  Lovely book, couldn't stop reading it. The FEELS got stronger as the story progresses. Phinneus was adorable and perceptive and stole my heart. The Little Naked Dancer and the Big Hulky Bodyguard love is stuff Hollywood legends are made of CD is so besotted with L.A. , her obsession drips from her writings.  Is that why she never visits NYC. Although her fans East side (moi) are starving to meet her !!( I lost 100 lbs by starvation. JK)  On a sombre note, I lost a Facebook friend yesterday -Sara Burch , a Beautiful soul and a fun filled human being. And this brought Christine's words even more protrusive  Nothing was guaranteed.  Life wasn’t sure, protected, or secure.  But he made love feel as if it wasn’t a risk.  Love was the good part.  The joy.  The reason.  Love was the one thing worth protecting. Hug your loved ones hard and tight from tonight on.

Book 2 in the Hollywood A-List series, and if possible it's even better than the first book. I absolutely adored Emily and Carter’s story, I mean truly adored it. Emily and her best friend Darlene met in school and became friends forever, both singing and dancing and wanting to make it big in Hollywood. Emily, sadly didn't make it as a superstar, not because of her lack of talent, but rather because of a possessive, abusive boyfriend. After ending said relationship she remains as choreographer for her now superstar best friend Darlene, sadly her abusive a$$hat ex doesn't seem to have got the memo. Finally Darlene gets her security detail to protect her, and who gets assigned to her? The super sexy Carter Kincaid, that's who. Told in dual POV, we get to see both sides of the story, and wow, what a story it is, secrets, lies and forbidden romance. Lots of action, sexual chemistry and emotional moments. Full five stars from me. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley..

Emily and Darlene are best friends who work together, Darlene is a Hollywood singer and Emily a dancer who used to have aspirations of stardom. These were trampled by her possessive ex-boyfriend, Vince. After years of putting up with his crazy act, Emily walked away. She thinks she’s free of him, but soon it becomes obvious that he’s not giving her up so easily. Darlene hires Carter Kincaid, an ex-cop to detail their protection. Sparks flew from the moment they met, in a particularly unusual way. So, even though he was meant to be guarding Darlene, it’s Emily who needs him the most. It made a relationship even harder to avoid as they spent so much time together. Carter has a lot of baggage and other responsibilities taking up his time, making him difficult for Emily to understand at times. He knew he shouldn’t allow himself to be attracted to her, for her safety if nothing else, but he just couldn’t keep away. The chemistry between these two is enough to melt two kindles, not just one. It’s off the charts hot and whew!!! I’m getting steamed up just thinking about it again, lol. So, will Carter catch the bad guy? Will he get the girl as a reward? One-Click today and make Carter your Bodyguard.

Bodyguard by C.D. Reiss is the second standalone novel in the author’s delightful Hollywood-A-list Series. It has a little bit of everything: great girlfriends, a hunky hero with baggage, a creepy stalker, and a sweet, sexy heroine. Childhood friends, Darlene and Emily, leave home in search of fame and fortune in Los Angeles. One of them gets the fame, and one gets a loser boyfriend. When Emily rids herself of the loser, he becomes a really sick stalker who is set on getting her back or making sure no one else gets her love. Enter one white knight in the form of Darlene’s bodyguard. Carter Kincaid is extraordinarily well suited to be a bodyguard, and he is total eye candy to boot. Between Darlene’s devotion to her best pal and Carter’s professional attention, Emily can’t help but be safe, right? Emily, Carter, and Darlene are each fantastic characters. I loved Darlene and Emily’s friendship. They are the embodiment of sister-friends. Carter, who remains an enigma to Emily for much of the book, carries a lot of personal baggage. His dedication to his job and his devotion to his family make him a yummy book boyfriend. The ex-boyfriend, Kyle, is equal parts distasteful and creepy. They all make the story gripping. Ms. Reiss delivers her usual well-written story; her plots are crisp, her descriptions evocative without being flowery, and her characters are more real than your next-door neighbors. The Bodyguard’s ending is perfect. It is hopeful and promising without a trite ride-into-the-sunset HEA.

I love when I don’t know where a book is going to take me. Bodyguard was not at all what I was expecting. These two have so much baggage in their life. This book was all about seeing them struggle to be normal when neither of their situations were, all the while trying to act on the attraction they have for each other. This is one of those books that will make you laugh, cringe and maybe even cry a little. It was life. Hero: Carter is the bodyguard to the heroines best friend and then becomes heroines bodyguard. He’s ex-LAPD. Lives with his mom and son. Carter was instantly drawn to heroine but kept her at arms length due to home life. His character is an Alpha but comes off Beta as he tries to stay away from heroine. Heroine: Emily is a dancer and singer. She blew out her knee but attempted to reach fame with her best friend, Darlene. Due to a bad relationship that turned into a stalker, Emily stopped trying for fame and became Darlene’s choreographer. Emily is hiding from life because of her stalker. She’s instantly drawn to Carter. She seems shy at first but starts to show a backbone. She calls Carter on his wish washy behavior. Heat Factor: starts off low and builds with the story Safety: heroine has a stalker, but it doesn’t get too violent Predictability: unpredictable. Angst Level: mid level ARC provided by NetGalley.
