Not as dynamic as his later works but worth the read. If you read Conroy once, you will never get enough of him.

I have just read The Death of Santini and am now rereading all Conroy's works. The Boo, as a first book for a very young writer, alerts the reader to pay attention. While it does have some timing and cohesion problems, it definitely portends the makings of a lyrical writer gifted with language and syntax. I hope his eleventh book, The Death of Santini, is not his last. It is the highlight of my reading life when he publishes. In fact, I consider it a gift.

I am a huge Pat Conroy fan. This book isn't his best work (it is his first novel). It doesn't make a whole lot of sense because it is mostly little blurbs about events that happened at the Citadel in the mid 1960's. I am glad I read it but I wish I didn't pay for it.

Fantastic read. Conroy brings you right into a world most would never visit and even fewer graduate from. The Boo showa the amazing balancing act as only a prior graduate of The Citidel could have peerformed it. Highly reccomended!
