Rudy is a twelve-year-old boy living in the big city with his great-aunt. His world is suddenly turned upside down, when one day his mother shows up and whisks him away to live with an aunt, in a small mining town, some 90 miles upriver, in a tropical rain forest. Rudy struggles to fit into this religiously conservative society. The dangers of the environment, youthful romances, and a tyrannical household in which he finds himself, all make for a hilarious, often-times tense, and sometimes poignant story. You will be rooting for this unlikely and irresistible hero throughout Boogie Days-a powerful, highly entertaining novel.

This book tells a captivating tale of some young folks growing up in a very religiously conservative mining town that is on the verge of cataclysmic change. It's very funny, poignant and dramatic at times. A must read. Excellent.
I read books to enjoy an emotional, intellectual, and spiritual experience. Mr. Cumberbatch's new novel, "Boogie Days," fills all of my criteria, as it takes you on a wild ride of experiences; from the depth of an abyss to triumphant mountains tops, as Rudy-a young man you will come to admire and respect-triumphs over many obstacles, including death. This book will become an oft-read friend as you rejoice in Rudy's indomitable will and perseverance as he grows from boyhood to manhood; and hope for a sequel as soon as possible.
