Chapter One

day 1

We humans keep brainstorming options and plans, but God's purpose prevails. Proverbs 19:21 MSG

Mentals Block

Your mind, your body, your soul, your spirit-all are stamped with God's unchangeable purpose for your life. Life isn't about fashioning a purpose; it's about uncovering the custom-crafted purpose that has always existed for you in the mind of God.

And it's not a secret! More than anything else, God desires to convey to your heart an unshakable conviction of who you are (by His design), as well as your place in His big story. People run frantically through life "brainstorming options and plans" in a desperate attempt to be significant. But there is nothing more significant than trusting the good intentions of God.

Don't work so hard trying to figure it all out in your mind. God's not interested in giving you a divine road map without divine companionship. Pursue the relationship-He'll lead you into purpose.

God, I will trust Your plan for my life. And I will make Your face-not my plans-the center of my attention.

day 2

He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need, letting us in on the plans he took such delight in making. He set it all out before us in Christ, a long-range plan in which everything would be brought together and summed up in him, everything in deepest heaven, everything on planet earth. Ephesians 1:8-10 MSG

The Whole World in His Hands

Your story is significant because it is part of His story. God's story. It's so amazing that He would include you in the New Rebellion, isn't it? He could do it all Himself, of course, but that would frustrate His whole intention in creating you. In creating the world.

Do you understand that you get to partner with God Himself? Into His long-range plan, He set you-at this very time and place-to play a part that no one else can play. If you believe that, then you'll throw aside the status quo and become an instigator of holy rebellion. Deepest heaven is coming to planet Earth ... and you are an agent of transformation.

If you will own your role in this unfolding drama, He will let you in on the plan. And your vital role in it.

Purpose begins today. I will believe that God wants me to play a crucial part in His incredible plan for the world-my world-today.

day 3

The Scripture says to the Pharaoh, "For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth." Romans 9:17 NKJV

Puppet Politics

There is no question that God is the power broker on planet Earth. Despite the very real presence of evil, there is a force that unrelentingly moves all people, all governments, all nations toward the ultimate purpose of God. And His power also moves your life!

If a stubborn, angry, arrogant man like Pharaoh could unwittingly become the very avenue for God to display His powerful love for His people so many years ago in Egypt (see Exodus 1-14), what do you think He can do with someone who loves Him and wants to be used by Him? Someone like you.

You were made for more than mere existence. Your heart tells you that you do indeed have a part to play in God's great agenda. Go for it! Don't let anyone tie you down to "normalcy."

God, I am not brilliant or powerful, but You are both. So I will look for today's opportunities to reveal Your greatness in ways large and small.

day 4

Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things which have not been done, saying, "My purpose will be established, and I will accomplish all My good pleasure." Isaiah 46:10 NASB

A Wrinkle in Time

Can God finish what He's started? Oh yeah.

Just as Jesus broke upon the earth as a rebel Himself in order to fulfill God's words from thousands of years earlier, so God knows exactly what He intends to do through your life. Of course, you're not a robot acting out some preprogrammed agenda. Instead, God placed all your desires and abilities and patterns of thinking inside one never-before-seen personality. One fascinating creation.

When your personality is given over to His direction, amazing things happen. Out of that intimate relationship, God leads you into the very purposes He thought up before the earth was even created. That's some brain strain, but it's true. Not even your mistakes and messes can hinder God's purpose in your life. If your heart belongs to Him, He makes your weaknesses the very platform for His strength.

God, thank You for Your declarations over my life so long ago. I belong to You and will serve You all my days.

day 5

It is God who is working in you, [enabling you] both to will and to act for His good purpose. Philippians 2:13 HCSB

The Chicken or the Egg?

Sometimes you don't really feel like doing God's purposes. Sometimes you'd rather take the path of least resistance and just be "normal." But that's not the real you! The real you can never settle for just fitting in. The real you rebels at the line of lemmings all walking in uniform brokenness toward futility. You are made for an extraordinary life!

At those times of wavering, God breathes upon the embers of your soul and ignites a new flame of passion and ability. To do the improbable. The impossible. And it is God Himself who activates both the "willing" and the "working." So which comes first, the desire or the ability? The answer: Whichever one He gives you first! Doing God's will increases your desire, and the desire leads you into more doing. Cool, huh?

God, You know how much I need Your strength to do Your purposes and to even want to do them. Remind me of who I am in You.

day 6

For this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle-I am telling the truth, I am not lying-and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles. 1 Timothy 2:7 NIV

Specificity

Knowing who you are and why you're here changes everything.

Paul's knowledge of his identity and purpose gave him the confidence and determination that were utterly essential to completing his mission. And though your mission may differ from his, you need the same confidence and determination to accomplish your purpose.

Don't settle for a vague idea of God's calling in your life-get specific! Ask God directly. Ask spiritual friends and spiritual authorities what they see in you. Look at your spiritual gifts; look at the kinds of things God has already authenticated in your life. Look at your longings.

In all these ways, let God's Spirit tell you who you are and why you're here. The world desperately needs you to come fully alive and live out your Kingdom purpose with confidence and determination.

God, infuse my soul with hope and courage to pursue Your specific calling on my life. Appoint me, send me, use me.

day 7

You followed God's prearranged plan. With the help of lawless Gentiles, you nailed him to the cross and murdered him. Acts 2:23 NLT

A Prearranged Marriage

How could the most evil act in human history possibly be prearranged by God? Is God the author of evil? These are fair questions. And far from being mere philosophical musings, they bear directly upon your life: If God cannot be trusted on a cosmic level, why should you trust Him personally?

Let's start with the basics, with what must be true. God is a good God. The devil is a bad devil. God, in His wisdom, allowed the possibility for evil to enter earth. Having entered, evil will soon be conquered by the wisdom of God.

So how does that affect you? Simply this: Your heavenly Father is committed to bringing good results-every time!-from bad events in your life. If you will trust Him, even when it hurts, you will be empowered to live out the New Rebellion today.

God, I will trust You to marry bad experiences with good results in my life. You are committed to redeeming the places of suffering.
