Born of Vengeance: The League: Nemesis Rising by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Welcome back to the blockbuster bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon’s world of the League with Born of Vengeance, where destiny and danger collide. . .

Bastien Cabarro survived the brutal slaughter of his entire family only to have his wife pin their murders on him. Made Ravin by The League, he is now a target for their assassins-in-training to hunt and kill. The average life expectancy for such beings is six weeks. But defying the odds is what this Gyron Force officer does best—and Bastien won’t rest until he lays his betrayers in their graves.

Ten years later, Bastien has one chance to strike back, provided he relies on his former wingman—the very sister of the woman who testified against him. Major Ember Wyldestarrin joined the outlaw Tavali the day Kirovar fell to a tyrant, and she and her team were left to die under the barrage of enemy fire. Today, Ember vows revenge on those who murdered her parents and forced her and her sisters into exile. But joining forces with Bastien comes with a cost—and an attraction too dangerous for their own good. Is it worth the fight if losing means a fate worse than death?

I am a fan of this where do I start... 14.99 for a 250 pg novel, that about half of the book is scenes from previous books, where the perspective is from this novels protagonists. Secondly, the book overview above, where "he is on the run and she is out to capture him" is literally nowhere in this book at all, its literally not the story at all. Finally, while I did like reading it I guess, to me it was basically like a novella and very rushed to print apparently. You never get to experience much of what made them fall in love, also the books plot points where very predictable....and how many more times do we rehash key plot points from previous books. They could be memories in new storylines. The end is abrupt and the love and action and new exploration of this universe is not really realised. Especially with how great some of the preious novels in this series are. I can only hope future novels will keep this in mind, not overcharge for less content and give us readers new storylines to eagerly enjoy. Sincerely, Your disappointed fan

The book is much shorter than the previous in the series, which isn't a problem if it was well done. Half the book was a POV of Bas. The first part of the POV I understand as it gives you the betrayal; however, if one had followed the series, the POV review once met with the Sentella and Jules, was a waste of space and should have been edited out. More between the family, the Major's son, etc, could have been written. Too much with not enough detail crammed into a few pages was overkill. The bonus story was good! Can't wait to see if there will be another and if Kyr is found. Just hoping it will be better than this one, more on the same par as the first 9.

I think I was disappointed because the rest of this series is just so fantastic , I felt like I was re-reading from past books. As always I love the characters and the dialog but overall the story felt like parts were missing, and it felt unfinished. I am hoping this this just quick hold over to the next book.

This was not the best book in the series. Seeing Bastian's story was great but that's what it felt like, seeing. The writing was more passive, there was rehashing of info that was not necessary, some relationships were not clearly defined and the end just went to fast. Still a really great book just not as good as I've come to expect.

I love her books but ugh rehashed from previous books even though you get to see their point of view. Ummmm please change your overview cause ya none of that last bit happened. I've already read it twice and did not see that in there unless I'm missing a subtle hint. Loved the last chapter though.

Usually I defend the whole retelling of scenes from previous books with another POV, but this was not done well, it feels like it was rushed. These stories usually leave me satisfied with the characters, humor, battle scenes, and romance, however this story did not. For the amount of effort and new story information, I feel as if this should have been credited as a novella not a full story. I feel like I got ripped off. I'm not sure Sherrilyn Kenyon even actually wrote this, it feels like an editorial hack job. I am very saddened by this and hope the next story is better and makes up for what was left lacking in this one. I really loved Bastien through the series, and wanted a much better story for him.

Just like in the DHL series, Sherilyn and her publishers have found a way to profit off fan loyalty to the characters. Over half the book is a repeat/POV treatment. No new storyline and what should have been the main theme (retaking the throne) doesn't even take a whole chapter. I've read all of her books, including the Nick series and feel the true "betrayal" has been to her faithful fans. How many times are you going to exploit our devotion to the characters to make a quick buck?

This was a great story! Bastion and Ember are a perfect match. So glad things eventually work out for them. Sherrilyn never disappoints in the quality of her work. Was a little surprised by the shortness of the story after the length of Jullien's story, but still full of surprises. The bonus story was good too.

Great to read about Bastien and to have a refresher about the other books. But I did feel like the last chapters went by fast. I thought there'd be more of a battle for the throne. I did love the bonus read at the end and hope for more. Still love these books.

I think the price should have been only 4.99, since it was a LOT of info from previous books . Why are we paying for the same books twice???? I love Sherrilyn Kenyon books, but there needs to be whole new books not repeating chapters from other books.

Not what I was expecting. To much from other books in the series. When finally got to Bastien's story it went by super fast and not enough details.

I love this series and have been waiting for Bastien's story but half of this book was taken from previous books, and the bonus at the end was probably my favorite part. I'm glad Bastien finally got his happily ever after I just wish it had been more of a new story.

The story is good but you need more of the sexual tension and gush You showed in the first three books. Also the complications of getting in and out of places was not very descriptive.

I love this author and am a big fan; however, this book was NOT worth $14.99! There were PAGES of repeats from previous books and the ending was very unsatisfactory. Please, please, PLEASE let the author write a story that's good, not just "finished" by some arbitrary deadline!

Great development of new characters and keeping older characters vibrant while being supporting cast

I own and love most all of Sherrilyn Kenyon's books... but have been disappointed in the last three released (this one included). As previously mentioned, it seems like she is running out of ideas for new stories... she is copying and pasting large portions from previous books, adding some new details and calling it a new story. Although I did enjoy this book (despite the repetition from previous books), I found the ending to be ....well, lazy I guess. The main character walks into the castle, kills his uncle, and.....everyone lives happily ever after. The End. I could almost hear the author saying "I'm so over this, just end it." This is the last novel I've purchased, and will probably wait on buying anymore until they go on sale (or until her stories improve, which ever comes first)

The League series is one of those reads that has to be done more than once. Once I start, can't put it down. Awaiting the next book impatiently.
