When the going gets tough, the tough should reach for the "Boss's Survival Guide"! No question managing your employees is a lot easier in strong economic times than leading through difficult times. Growth periods don't test your intestinal fortitude the way large (or even small) scale problems do, nor do they determine if your managers will stay on track in the heat of battle. Where should managers turn for guidance? Well my recommendation is this book! Whether you want to understand ways to motivate and keep your employees engaged after a brutal layoff, or how to handle the brutal layoff (and keep the company compliant with the ever changing employment laws), or recognizing and dealing with the internal stress (yours and your employees) of working in an ever changing landscape, then let this book be your source for deeper understanding of these topics and many more. Extremely thorough and insightful, this book should be required reading for all mid level and senior managers operating in today's business world.

For over 20 yrs Bob Rosner has focused on organizational issues that affect managers and workers. His ability to incorporate everyday experiences to the workplace are unique and have a solid foundation on empirical research combined with down to earth and real situations. We need more thoughtful workplace experts that are able to create positive chemistry in very difficult times..

As a manager, I am always looking to hone my skills and create an environment for my employees in which they will excel. Rosner's book is an informative go-to tool on my bookshelf that gives me the insight and the enthusiasm to make my team the best. Every manager should have it.

A fresh new approach. This book will motivate you, as well as give you tools to motivate, inspire and empower your employees to be the best they can be. The authors have a keen understanding of human nature and the sensitive forces that tug at and catalyze workplaces today. A must read.

I really enjoyed this book. It was recommended to me by a colleague. It's a fun and easy read but don't let that fool you. The advice in this book is sound and practical for the new and seasoned manager alike. I'm keeping a copy in my office to use as a reference guide when I run into those management situations I'd rather manage than react to. Thanks Bob Rosner!

How refreshing to find such a valuable resource which is thought provoking, entertaining, and yet provides timely, relevant, practical guidance to assist with the difficult issues we all face in the workplace. This is a must read for anyone who is serious about dealing with the challenges of leadership and workplace issues.

What I like most about this book is that it weaves through the weightiest workplace conundrums with a light, but thorough, hand. Relevant references to not only the workplace literature, but also movies and popular culture, help the reader gain perspective on how to address the most important issues. A smart company would give this book to everyone first hired in at or promoted to the managerial level

I can't tell you how many times I've fallen asleep trying to read business books. Rosner and Halcrow actually make this a fun read. There is even a part of each chapter called "Stay out of Jail." Very helpful stuff in an easy to digest format.
