Both of Us: My Life with Farrah by Ryan O'Neal

Ryan O’Neal and Farrah Fawcett. He was the handsome Academy Award–nominated star of Paper Moon and the classic romance Love Story. She was the beautiful, all-American Charlie’s Angel, whose poster adorned the bedroom walls of teenage boys everywhere. One of the most storied love affairs in Hollywood history, their romance has captivated fans and media alike for more than three decades. In a tragic turn, the world lost Farrah after a tragic battle with cancer in 2009, but in his intimate memoir Both of Us, Ryan brings their relationship to vivid life.

Fans of each other from afar, Ryan and Farrah met through her husband, Lee Majors, and fell passionately in love. Soon, however, reality threatened their happiness and they struggled with some serious matters, including the disintegration of Farrah’s marriage; Ryan’s troubled relationship with his daughter, Tatum, and son, Griffin; mismatched career trajectories; and raising their young son, Redmond—all leading Ryan and Farrah to an inevitable split in 1997.

Ryan fought to create a life on his own but never stopped longing for Farrah. Eventually he realized that he had lost his true soul mate. Older and wiser, he and Farrah found their way back to each other and were excited to start a new life together. But their bliss was cut short when Farrah was diagnosed with cancer and passed away just three years later.

Ryan’s deep love for Farrah and his devotion to preserving her memory are evident in Both of Us. Drawing on decades’ worth of personal records and keepsakes, he has included never-before-seen photographs, letters exchanged between him and Farrah, and his own diaries, making this a poignant and compelling memento for her fans. Written with candor and emotional honesty, it is a true Hollywood love story.

This book needs to be read with a grain of salt! It is not a book to be taken seriously. It's more of a fantasy read - kind of like "Harry Potter"! A fantasy in which Ryan O'Neal is still, (and will always be), obsessed with! Ryan O'Neal and the late, Farrah Fawcett did not have a Love Story, as Ryan O'Neal is trying to imply, and make the world believe. Love is not suppose to hurt, yet Ryan O'Neal has abused Farrah Fawcett in so many ways, both physically and emotionally. Ryan O'Neal needs Farrah Fawcett, or rather Farrah's name, in order to stay in the media. No one really cares about his life,(reason why he didn't write a memior on such), yet released a memior based on his fantasy life with Ms. Fawcett. Ever since Ryan O'Neal met Farrah Fawcett, she was his ticket to feed his selfish ego! Ryan O'Neal does not care about anyone, including his own flesh and blood, except himself. It is a shame Mr. O'Neal is still trying to profit off of Ms. Fawcett, and trying to rewrite history with his fantasies. I'm sure Farrah Fawcett is turning over in her grave with the nonsense that is written in this novel. Either that, or she is laughing her beautiful butt off, in Heaven!

I read the book n 2 days. I don't view their relationship as a love story and i don't think they were a golden couple. This is a relationship that should have never happend. Farrah should have worked out her marriage with Lee, and Ryan should have worked on his relationship with his kids.A relationship like this never has a happy ending because of the way they came together. i don't hink it was love, they was infatuated with each other. this was a nice and sweet lady that turned so bitter and angry. I think she regretted her divorce, but stuck with her decision because of the kid. I think Ryan just used her, because nothing was going on in his career. i think Lee got the better of this deal because now he is happily married to the love of his life.

I really liked this book. While some parts were difficult to read, this is an honest depiction of Ryan O'Neal's and Farrah Fawcett's relationships. In spite of everything, it is evident that they loved each other. The most poignant moments in the book deal with Farrah's battle with cancer. Furthermore, it is evident that Mr. O'Neal is still greiving the loss of Ms. Fawcett and that he loves her still. A touching rememberence.

It only took me two days to read this book...I did enjoy it immensely but after watching the reality documentary of Ryan and Tatum...I witnessed Ryan's temper...stubborness..his anal tendencies and I do believe he is living in a fantasy world. I felt sorry for all his children but mostly Farrah. I too am in a marriage with similar ups and downs and it hit a nerve while reading how she changed. Abusive behavior can make one very bitter and I believe this is what happened to Farrah. God bless Alana Stewart....she was the angel by Farrah's side till the end.

I started this book and could't put it down. My heart bleeds for Ryan and losing the love of his life. Hopefully will make me appreciate life and love more. Felt his pain with his children and liked hearing what really happened, not what was written to sell more magazines. Loved all the great pictures. A good read

Read the book in one sitting. The picture of Ryan and his son Redmond at Farrah's funeral says it all.

I gave this book 5 stars because Ryan O'Neil is an actor, not a writer. I thought he gave it a wonderful effort though and it flows smoothly while the reader can take the time to remember their own memories of Farrah.

As with most celebreties,a facination with thier personal life is always interesting. I enjoy reading biographies or auto-biographies. You can feel Ryan's pain missing his love as well as the torment they both endured both physically and mentally with each other along with their own family. Learned some trivia on other celeb's as well.
