Bound by Darkness (Guardians of Eternity Series #8) by Alexandra Ivy

The Sylvermyst have a reputation as sinister cousins to the fey, and none are more mysterious than Ariyal and his tribe. To save his people from banishment, he sold himself to the evil Morgana. Finally free, he faces a new challenge: Jaelyn, an elite vampire warrior sent to capture him. By rights, he should kill her on sight. Yet he cannot bring himself to hurt her—or to resist her. . .

Jaelyn is stunningly beautiful, utterly lethal—and always alone. Until Ariyal. From their first encounter, she knows that what's between them is more dangerous than simple lust. And as they unite to thwart a terrifying prophecy that will mean the end of his clan and of the world they know, she will risk everything to fulfill her destiny by his side. . .

Our Review [by LITERAL ADDICTION’s Pack Alpha – Michelle L Olson]: Alexandra Ivy’s Guardians of Eternity series is one of my all time favorites. It has everything a reader could want in a long running Paranormal series – wit, loveable heroes and heroines, detestable villains, intrigue, plot, action… Upon completion of Book #7, Devoured by Darkness, I was chomping at the bit for Book #8 and swearing that I had to wait as long as I did, simply because upon meeting Ariyel and Jaelyn for the first time in Book #7, you just KNEW they were going to be something special no matter what direction the plot twists took them. Alexandra Ivy did not disappoint!! She gave me an Ariyel/Jaelyn story that had me cheering, holding my breath, laughing, and sighing contently. Ariyel is an amazing hero. He started out as a villain in Book #7, but you knew he wasn’t destined to remain that way. He’s a Fey Prince with a conscience, and has spent his entire life running from the Dark Lord; why would he return to him and/or help resurrect him to flesh? Jaelyn is the kind of heroine I yearn for in a Paranormal Romance. She’s strong, capable, independent, but with a soft heart underneath the steel, and a will that she isn’t afraid to exert when going after what she wants. The ‘bad guys’ in this story were REALLY bad, and you couldn’t help but hold your breath each time something swung in their favor. The biggest shocker what ‘who’ one of the bad guys is (you’ll just have to read Bound by Darkness to find out of whom I speak!). I have loved roguish Dante since his appearance way back when, but after completing Bound by Darkness, Dante has new competition for top GoE stud in my book; Ariyel is quite the yummy fairy. :) The only complaint that I have about this book is that there wasn’t quite enough Levet. I love that French Gargoyle, and though he was present, and you got what you love about him, he didn’t play the dashing knight to the heroine’s damsel in distress as much in this installation. Probably because Jaelyn is no damsel in distress! The set up for Book #9, which I can only assume with be Santiago’s story (yay!), was great. Not too much to distract from the meat of ‘Darkness, but enough to have you salivating for the next book. LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives Bound by Darkness 4 ½ Skulls. We definitely recommend it for ALL Alexandra Ivy fans, Urban Fantasy readers, Vampire lovers, and Paranormal Romance addicts. Love Alexandra Ivy and Guardians of Eternity. Can’t wait to see what you cook up for us next beyond the Veil.

Bound by Darkness is the latest in the Guardians of Eternity series. Although it isn't my favorite of the series, it is a good, solid read for fans. The book explores the unknown Sylvermist race and brings together two unlikely protagonists - Ariyal and Jaelyn. They begin the book as enemies, which means, of course, that they end the book as soul mates. The jorney to that end is highly entertaining for fans of paranormal romance and this series. Plus, we get to see some returning characters, like Levet, the gargoyle. The story line sets up nicely for the next installment, which I believe will be Caine and Cassandra's story. This book is a great read, but I would not recommend it as a stand alone. For continuity's sake, you really need to read the entire series. Besides, you really should read the earlier stories because they are highly entertaining. I am definitely looking forward to the next book!

I really liked Jaelyn and Ariyal story. The only thing I saw as a distraction and annoying was when Ariyal kept calling Jaelyn poppet. I kept getting images of Rumplestiltskin waggling his fingers towards a young girl's breasts. See? Annoying. I gave it three stars.

~ 4 Bound By Darkness Stars ~  Bound By Darkness is book eight in the Guardians of Eternity series by Alexandra Ivy. I am slowly making my way through this wonderful series. We get surprises, twist and turns, great characters, adventure, and more. Jaelyn, a Hunter and a vampire. I loved how strong and independent she is. She is dedicated to her task as a Hunter. I like to read about women who don’t need a man, but that they would like one to want them and acknowledge what they are and can do. Ariyal, a Sylvermyst Fae, warrior, and Prince of his people. I loved him and especially how he acknowledges that Jaelyn is a fierce fighter and can kick ass or take care of herself. Yes he struggles with wanting to keep her safe and letting her be the strong independent women she is.  Ms. Ivy has created a unique and fun series. I enjoy how strong, independent, and well-developed all the characters are in these books. Oh course I can not forget about Levet he always brings a smile to my face and humor to whatever situation is going on. Jaelyn and Ariyal have some great banter and even though they feel the attraction their is great sexual tension and pursuit before these two become a couple. I also love when an author brings previous characters back into the books. We get that here and the characters have some significant roles. We are also brought deeper into the plot of The Dark Lords return and impending apocalypse. I am enjoying this series and look forward to continuing the Guardians of Eternity. I like the characters, direction of the plot and world. If you have not tried out this series I recommend giving it a shot. Each book builds on the other and are best read in order.

I'd read the first book in the series; this is the 8th, and ugh! If you've read the others leading up to this, you may love it, but it does NOT work as a stand alone, even having read the first book, just prior. The lead romance is was about Jaelyn, a vampire assassin( called a Hunter), and her prey, Ariyal, a Sylvermyst (that's a kind of fairy), but there are other couples, and a twin baby in stasis they're trying to find - or is it a kidnapped werewolf who's also a prophet? I did really like the way Jaelyn and Ariyal continually insulted each other: Leech! Fairy! And that did help me keep straight what kinds of beings *they* were. There were also dead mages and werewolves and curs (??) and cur-mages and live mages and witches and imps and demons and gargoyles and probably a dozen more creatures. And a B storyline with Santiago (cannot remember what kind of being he was) and Nefri, who's a super-duper Vampire.   But beside the settings in London and Chicago and St. Louis, there was also a world behind the Veil, and Avalon, and... there was a King of the Vampires, who was Jaelyn's boss, except there was the Ruah, who was her boss, too, except he had to kowtow to the Oracles... I think at least 30-40 named characters.  Too many, for my taste.
