I was driving home to spend the holidays with my family.
But I lost control of my vehicle on an icy mountain road.
I slammed into a tree on the edge of Lake Lucerne.
I barely remember writing my name on the frosted windowpane.
The darkness had swallowed me whole.
I spiraled toward oblivion.
When I awoke from the gloom
I found myself in an old log cabin
With the devil's eyes piercing fiercely into mine.
Up until four days ago, my life was tedious and tiresome.
Until, I rescued a dainty girl with golden hair and hazel eyes.
She looks just like the one I'm trying to forget.
Now my life has turned upside down and inside out.
You see, I inadvertently revealed my true identity.
Now, she can never leave.
We will live in hell, until we take our last breaths, together.
Lyra was the one who insisted on playing the game.
But I have a gut feeling, I will be the one to lose…

Totally surprised with how the book went but good story. Loved Ryker.
This was the perfect combination of alpha male and strong female characters, interacting in an impossible situation. Ryker Steel is the ultimate ex-military man whose life has been shattered not only by his service but the loss of his wife. Lyra is a strong minded woman who has a freak accident that leaves her on the brink of death. Instead, she gets caught up in his world in a bid to survive after the accident and in the face of others who want her dead. And in the middle of it all is some serious sexual attraction and a plethora of secrets that could change both of their lives forever. Connie Lafortune weaves a story that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. It was consistent and well-paced with an unpredictability that made it impossible to put the book down. Her characters are intense and intricate, with a wealth of strength that draws you into their lives. Their relationships are complicated and erotic, sweet and heart-wrenching. They’re passionate with a relevant story and an edge of sarcastic humor that keeps you reading and makes you question which direction the story is headed. This is the first time I’ve read anything by this author, and I enjoyed it immensely. I laughed, got angry, was surprised, and cried. I loved it from beginning to end. I look forward to reading more of her works in the future.
BOUND BY STEEL is an intriguing romance that also contains all the elements of a great thriller. A car crash brings together two opposites, Lyra Harper and Ryker Steele. And as is usually the case with opposites, they each have an entirely different world to offer the other. Also, they fill dark, past voids in one another's lives. The writing and story-telling style is superb. I really liked the technique of using 1st person with the two main characters. It let's you get into the head of each of them and see the same from a different point of view. The characters are well-develop and quite unique. This is a very entertaining read with enough twists to keep me awake at night. Jason Bourne has found new competition in Ryker Steele.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one! From the onset it had me hooked because, in many ways, it reminded me of my favorite love story of all time; Beauty and the Beast. Ryker has isolated himself from the rest of the world because of the death of his wife. Lo and behold, an accident occurs and he rescues Lyra from a car crash not far from his place and to his surprise, she's the spitting image of Ryker's dead wife. His boss orders him to kill her because she could tell the people he's hiding from he's alive but Ryker refuses because she's innocent. I don't want spoil it but there's plenty of secrets and plot twists, but there's plenty of steamy romance as well as drama and suspense which will keep you hooked. I highly recommend this one!
Oh My…Oh My Heart…Did. Not. See. This. Coming. Connie Lafortune had me from page one. She hooked me, reeled me in, and when I thought I had myself under control, although with a million questions and a dozen concerns, she sucker-punched my heart and left me in a puddle of emotional goo. BOUND BY STEEL crept up on me in the best of ways, as each layer was revealed, some peeled away in raw strips, others melting slowly away like ice cream under the passionate heat of the sun. No, Connie Lafortune did NOT pen a soft romance, filtered through the mist, she created a raw and telling tale of love, incredible loss and the injustices of life as Fate steps in with either its cruelest joke or most incredible dream. Ryker Steel became a ghost, a shadow of himself until he rescues a woman from certain death and his past nightmares come crashing down on him like an avalanche. Now he can never let her go, turning him from hero to jailer. Lyra Harper would have died on that secluded, ice-filled road when she crashed into that tree. She awoke in a cabin, to find herself trapped with a hulk of a man with a heart of stone. They were two strangers, yet, he acted as if he hated her, as if she were his personal hell. How could Lyra be drawn to such a monster? He was hard, cold and chiseled like an Adonis and as hard as they tried to avoid it, they had chemistry of the most passionate kind. And she was in danger, not from him, but because of him… Intense, fevered passion and deadly secrets surround the log cabin, but out in the world the web of lies will threaten to kill them both…especially if Lyra discovers who Ryker thinks she is… Pass the ice water, Connie Lafortune’s BOUND BY STEEL is a boiling pot of mystery and intrigue, with a raging inferno of soul deep love. Unseen twists and a tsunami of tension had me riveted to the every end! Definitely re-reading this one!
