Bound: A Doyle Witch Cozy Mystery by Kirsten Weiss

Book 1 in the Doyle Witch Cozy Mysteries.

Bound by magic, bound by love, bound by murder...

The Bonheim triplets live seemingly ordinary lives, hiding their magic from the neighbors in the small, mountain town of Doyle, California. But when a body is found in big sister Jayce's coffee shop, Karin, the practical one, is determined to prove Jayce innocent.

A murder isn't the only bizarre event in Doyle. Why are hikers vanishing in the nearby woods? Why are some people cursed with bad luck and others with good? And why is Karin's magic the weakest of the three sisters'?

As Karin digs deep to uncover the truth and regain her magic, her family is thrown into peril. Will her power return too late to save the people she loves the most, or will it be the cause of disaster?

Spells included at the back of the book!

Getting to know the triplets and their personalities is a great way to start a new series. This book, set in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain of California, is rich with descriptions and feelings. Just as you start to think you understand everything flip flops on you!

Having been to doyle ca. On the way to reno, nv. More than once I was curious how or why one would use it as a setting for a book. Doyle is in the desert. No forest near by. Or much else either. The book is o.k.. a fair read while waiting on an appointment. Needs some more developement of the caracters. And a better ending. Gave it a three.

I suppose I would classify this in the young adult genre, and as someone who enjoys reading that sort of book, I thought it was a good read. The plot wasn't overly simplistic for a young reader, there wasn't a bunch of sickening romance, the dialogue wasn't laced with cursing and there was no gratuitous sex. I liked the main character and her sisters and their strong bond. The magic added interest to the mystery.

I am of the belief a book has a beginning and ending, not a cliff hanger to the next book. Good ideas written for less than an eighth grade education made this one of the best, worst book I ever read. I will not read the rest of the series.

I really enjoyed this story and am looking forward to read more of this author's work. The mix of family values and troubles; fables and actually history with life's stressors, pains and joys will always hold my attention. Thank you for making this adventure available.

Good srory, but why would Ely stay at the Fairy spring if he had just escaped from there?

I enjoyed the book but hated it being a cliffhanger. It's good enough that I will read the next installment.

Weiss has well developed characters. You just can't help but become involved with these three sisters and their aunt. The locale is so well done that I swore I could smell the pine and the dry leaves crunch under my feet. Left me begging for more and thank goodness there is more!

My review: A fabulous opening volley for a new trilogy. The Characters are pretty much fleshed out but continue to grow as the book continues, although there are one or two that seemed be a bit slow to get to know and failed to trigger any kind of response from me as to whether I liked or disliked them. The plot smooths out as you read and the scenes are described in such a way as to pull you in and make you feel you are a part of them. My rating is 4.25 out of 5 stars. I think the series will grow as you go along and only get better.

I'll be deleting this book from my Nook immediately. If the person who selfish it had told the truth, I might have given it a chance, but I refuse to support self-published who make up fake companies just to make themselves look like someone who's made it through the traditional vetting process. NOT OK.
