About the Author

Richard Bard draws on his own experiences as a former USAF pilot and cancer survivor to craft compelling characters who risk it all for love and loyalty. Born in Munich, Germany, to American parents, he joined the United States Air Force like his father. But he left the service when he was diagnosed with cancer and learned he had only months to live. He earned a management degree from the University of Notre Dame and ran three successful companies involving advanced security products used by US embassies and governments worldwide. Now a full-time writer, he lives in Redondo Beach, California, with his wife and remains in excellent health.

Jake Bronson has been diagnosed with cancer for the second time, this time it’s terminal, during a routine MRI scan to determine his life expectancy an earthquake hits and Jake will never be the same again. His new found intellect and skills have been captured on TV and soon everyone wants to know all about Jake, no one than Luciano Battista who is a terrorist posing as a scientist, his plans will have you worried for the future. Jake and his friends travel across the world, fighting enemies and trying to save the girl – because let’s face it, what action story doesn’t need an everyday hero willing to lose everything for those he cares for. The action is non-stop. The writing is fantastic and it is hard to believe that this is a debut book by author Richard Bard. It has an ending that will have you crying out for more, luckily four more books are available at all good book stores right now. R.C. Bray’s performance had me cheering, smiling, crying and laughing – the delivery of some lines had me laughing out loud and thinking ‘Only Bray could have made me have that reaction’. He has such a talent for immersing the listener in the story that you just want to clear your schedule so you can listen intently to every word and enjoy the wild ride. I think the team up of author and narrator for this audio book is absolutely perfect and I’m so pleased to see that they are together for each of the next four audio books in the series, which are available on audible, I highly recommend you go and grab them now. I’m already warming up the audible app for book 2 – ‘The Enemy of my Enemy’ – the review will be forthcoming, keep your eyes peeled. Audiobook provided for review by the narrator. A terrific debut novel for this talented author who promises more to come (excerpt from Book Two in the series is included). I found the increase in Jake's cognitive abilities resulting from the MRI accident particularly appealing. I love thriller novels and this one did not disappoint.

If you are a fan of action books then this book is for you! It keeps you turning pages from the beginning and doesn't stop till the end. I plan to continue with the rest of the books in this series. The premise is ,unfortunately, believable considering the way our world is going. I can see most of this happening. I'm anxious to start the second book to find out what happens next. I really like all the main characters and look forward to finding out what they get involved in next. The teaser at the end of this book is tempting me to start the next book tonight!!

If you like tense drama and fast paced action, then this is the book you want to read! From start to finish, I couldn't put this book down. Grabs you from page one, keeps you riveted to the end. Can't wait for more.

First half was enjoyable but second half was like a different book that was totally unbelievable. It was like the author couldn't make up his mind how to end it, so the plot strays off course into a story about aliens. The ending was disappointing and made me regret finishing reading it. The fact the author has stretched out the s as me story into several more books makes me think that people that are readers are so hungry for good books they will settle for second rate books like this. I wanted the book to be better than what it was,but once again I'm left searching for good books to read. Books that have depth to them, that challenge your imagination and intellectual, where are the good writers of the world today.

From the interesting beginning to its heart-stopping end, this book is a fast-paced page turner! Starting as a medical thriller, throw in a handful of very engaging characters, some international terrorists, exotic locations, and a bit of love story for good measure, and you have a very engaging read. I can't wait for the second book to come out. Richard Bard spins a great tale.

Every now and then, a book comes along that you just can¿t put down. I tell my students that if they find a book that takes them on a visual trip as well as an emotional rollercoaster, then they have truly found an awesome book. That pretty much describes this book. This is one of those books that once you start reading you can forget about obligations to your family because you won¿t be able to put it down. It has a bit of science fiction tied into a military thriller, along with just a touch of romance to make this a well-rounded book. Jake Bronson only has a few weeks to live. He is having an MRI done when an earthquake happens. To me this was terrifying. The last MRI that I had needed to be done in two stages. After the first stage, they went looking for me afraid I had left. I have claustrophobia and felt as if I could not breathe. I was able to relate to this character a little too much in this instance. When they are finally able to get Jake out of the machine he discovers he has enhanced powers. He is determined to use these powers; in whatever time he has left to stop a terrorist attack. Throw into all of this the rescue of Francesca, a psychologist who works with autistic children and to whom Jake is romantically attached and you can see the plot thickening. The characters are very believable. The descriptions as you travel with Jack from California to Italy and other destinations are so vivid that you feel as if you are right there with him. I¿ve not traveled out of the country yet I feel I have traveled to these destinations. It is obvious that the author has done major research on weaponry, maybe drawing on his own background experiences. I didn¿t feel like I was in over my head in that area. I actually enjoyed it. For me if you are going to have a wonderfully fleshed out protagonist then you must have an equally wonderful antagonist. Luciano Battista is that person. To me his name even made me feel like he was evil. His character was a great opposite to Jake¿s character. It kept the pace going. There were areas where the imagination had to be stretched a little. I am one of those rare people that says bring it on. I grew up stretching my imagination, as a child so there is no reason not to continue that. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone I know. I believe it has something for everyone. This is an author to watch for. His second book in the series comes out in December so just take a deep breath and tell yourself that you can wait for it, because after all you don¿t really have a choice.

The sci-fi addition was odd but all other parts of the story was intriguing. I don’t care for the bad language though.

Wow! Fast paced, awesome book. So many twists and turns. The sad truth is it's here now and there are evil people ready to take control.

I was expecting something much different. The book starts out as a good science fiction story. A terminal man suddenly has special powers after a failed MRI. He can read minds, project thoughts and even telekinesis. Then it turns into an action thriller in a war zone. It is well written for what it is but I was disappointed in how it turned out. There was much more that could have been done with the character. I will not be reading the sequel.

Exciting thriller with a very creative premise. I'm not sure why I let this sit on my Nook for so long unread! Now that's finished, though, I'll be starting on book 2 right away. Brainrush is a fast read with characters you can really care about. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5, is because it got bogged down in a couple of places with too much detail. But those moments passed quickly and the rest of the story was great.

Characters were unrealistic... Good vs evil, making it somewhat predictable Bingaux
