Overview

Brave (Signed Book) by Rose McGowan

"My life, as you will read, has taken me from one cult to another. BRAVE is the story of how I fought my way out of these cults and reclaimed my life. I want to help you do the same." -Rose McGowan

A revealing memoir and empowering manifesto – A voice for generations

Rose McGowan was born in one cult and came of age in another, more visible cult: Hollywood.

In a strange world where she was continually on display, stardom soon became a personal nightmare of constant exposure and sexualization. Rose escaped into the world of her mind, something she had done as a child, and into high-profile relationships. Every detail of her personal life became public, and the realities of an inherently sexist industry emerged with every script, role, public appearance, and magazine cover. The Hollywood machine packaged her as a sexualized bombshell, hijacking her image and identity and marketing them for profit.

Hollywood expected Rose to be silent and cooperative and to stay the path. Instead, she rebelled and asserted her true identity and voice. She reemerged unscripted, courageous, victorious, angry, smart, fierce, unapologetic, controversial, and real as f*ck.

BRAVE is her raw, honest, and poignant memoir/manifesto—a no-holds-barred, pull-no-punches account of the rise of a millennial icon, fearless activist, and unstoppable force for change who is determined to expose the truth about the entertainment industry, dismantle the concept of fame, shine a light on a multibillion-dollar business built on systemic misogyny, and empower people everywhere to wake up and be BRAVE.

Rose McGowan has writtten a tell-all of a unique sort, writing vividly and non-salaciously about her life in the entertainment industry. Most of all, she exposes the ways the current organization of that industry is both a mirror of and tool that perpetuates the status quo, and especially the abuse and denigration of women and humanity. She is uncompromising as she lays out just what it has cost her and what it's doing to us and our world. I applaud her strength at the same time as grieving for how she has been hurt repeatedly. That's as real as it gets.

This book is an eye opener and gave a better understanding of what happens when power is mixed with fear intimidation and complicity towards those not as powerful. This book is about breaking from accepting the status quo and finding a smarter more compassionate way to change and elevate the world. This book is a gift for all people to read and relate to in order to reclaim your life and move forward.

This book is phenomenal and so important! Rose has taught me so much about the products I consume and to be wary of the messages they send me. I'm not sure if she wrote the book herself or had a ghostwriter, but the narrator is a strong feminine voice, almost abrasive. But then, you know, any woman who dares speak for herself is immediately viewed as aggressive. We are expected to remain quiet and take it over and over and over again without ever raising our voices because when we do, we are labeled as hysterical. Thank you so much, Rose, for speaking so loudly. For raising your fist. For saying it as it is. This is the best book I've read so far this year, and I highly recommend it to all feminists.

Rose is incredibly bold, insightful, forward thinking in this book. I have always been a fan of her work and the way she portrays her characters. To read her experiences is incredibly heart breaking, but more then anything it’s enraging. We are all humans. We all bleed. And we all love. We must rise as one against all injustices. Thank you for sharing your story Rose. r

I’m 55. Female. Definitely have felt second class many times in my life. I believed the “man’s view” because that’s how i was taught. My 24 year old daughter is strong and courageous and the way i wish i was then and now.
