About the Author

I am a wife, a programmer, and now an author. I have an adorable mini Schnauzer and more books than I have room for. I love reading romance because no matter what may be happening in my life, I can always count on my books to end happily ever after. The day I met my husband was the day I truly began believing in happily ever after. After hearing me complain a few too many times that I had "nothing" to read despite the hundreds of paperbacks scattered around the house, my husband began suggesting I write my own stories. When I finally took his advice I discovered that although I enjoy my day job as a software engineer, my true calling is to be an author.

My sister drilled into me an appreciation for fantasy and mythology, something I try to bring to my books. My debut novel, "Breaking the Nexus", started as a book written for NaNoWriMo and has grown to so much more. It was the conduit that introduced me to a fantastic group of independent authors who have changed my life in unimaginable ways.

When I'm not writing, I've found a passion for blogging and interviewing fellow authors. I also love reading (of course!), baking, crochet, sewing sock monkeys, playing video games, and all sorts of random crafts. I have an incurable love of rubber duckies and stuffed animals, and I believe nobody should have to grow up if they don't want.

So, I thought this book would be quite interesting based off the title and the description. Boy was I right. So this story centers around Sha Phoenix, a Mythrian, and Connor, a seemingly mortal police detective. The story begins with Sha patroling the Nexus, as is her job, and getting trapped into a falling vortex which sends her to the mortal realm, right in the middle of a crime scene. She comes to covered in someone else's blood and surrounded by mortals. She's taken into custody and questioned, where her temper escapes her and she shows off her powers to explain her presence at the crime scene. She then begins to work with the police in an effort to catch the serial killer they're looking for.  Interestingly enough, Sha is immediately drawn to Connor and he to her. They begin to develop a link and Sha makes an interesting discovery about Connor's heritage. But there's no time to think on it as she discovers the serial killer is Mythrian and working on a ritual to free an ancient evil that none of her own kind were able to kill and only the Great Phoenix was able to stop. With no time to waste, Sha and Connor head into battle to attempt to stop the Mythrian. My only problem is that the end was a cliff hanger and apparently the second book is not out yet. I simply have to read the second book to find out what happens to Sha and Connor.

This was a cool story idea with a bunch of different mythical creatures mentioned. I enjoyed the idea of the Nexus separating the two realms. The heroine, Sha, was fun, feisty and was pretty good at taking care of herself - she wields magic, after all - and the hero, Connor, is a by-the-books cop. The attraction between them is immediate although they both try to deny it, for a few pages anyway. I don't know much about police work but the author made me feel like she researched it and knew what she was talking about. The book ends on a cliffhanger - a major one - and that always annoys the crap out of me but it's definitely worth a read and I'll probably read the second book when it comes out.

Reviewed by Janelle Alex, Ph.D. for Readers' Favorite Breaking the Nexus, the first book in the Mythrian Realm series, captures readers from the start. Author Lindsay Avalon grabs you with her depiction of Detective Connor Flynn's horrific nightmare. Avalon takes you on a frightening journey, alongside Connor, as he quickly begins to question whether it was just a dream or if somehow it was real. He is drawn to Sha Phoenix and so too will you be. Sha is fearsome and beautiful, but in a vulnerable space as Breaking the Nexus moves forward. Demonic creatures, murders in the human realm, and utter confusion have a fantastic effect on everyone, whether or not they realize, understand, or accept what is occurring. Telepathy, portals, runes, magic and a sexy romance are all interwoven in this story of fantasy and the paranormal. Lindsay Avalon has crafted a magical tale that will leave your head spinning and your heart pounding. You may even need to leave a nightlight on. Be prepared for some graphic scenes and a handful of foul language. Yet, the placement of these enliven the story even more. You can feel the passion from Connor and Sha. You can feel their sexual desire and their desire to serve and protect. Their passion for both runs deep, but can they protect their respective worlds? Can they protect each other? More importantly, what I could hardly wait to discover and one of the things that kept me turning page after page was whether or not Connor and Sha could experience a romantic relationship in the midst of the terror that seemed to befall both their worlds. Kudos to Lindsay Avalon. Well done!

Reviewed by Stephen Fisher for Readers' Favorite Breaking the Nexus by Lindsay Avalon is the first book in The Mythrian Realm series that begins with the merging of two realms that previously only coexisted: the human realm and the Mythrian realm, which is where the legends of fairy tales were born. The gate linking both realms is called the Nexus, and it is protected by the Mythrian Sentinels. The adventures begin when a Sorceri Sentinel, Sha Phoenix, is sucked through a gate and into the human realm as it closes. She lands in a puddle of blood, right in the middle of a homicide crime scene. It’s lust at first sight for both Sha and Detective Connor Flynn. Sha goes from murder suspect to private police consultant as the city of Denver is thrust into chaos. Magic, murder, and mayhem bring two professionals from different dimensions together in a gripping love story as all hell is breaking loose upon humanity. The characters that Ms. Avalon has created all have distinct personalities, complete with flaws and strengths that make them believable and perfect together as the heroes of her story. From the moment they meet, the attraction is immediate and powerful. Neither can understand how they have been connected consciously or unconsciously, but they accept it willingly. Lindsay demonstrates her love of romance novels with raw, unbridled passion between Connor and Sha. As the intensities of Breaking the Nexus reached fever pitch, I was left standing on an inescapable plateau, waiting for my only salvation; Lindsay Avalon’s next book of The Mythrian Realm.

Reviewed by Jack Magnus for Readers' Favorite Breaking the Nexus is the first book in Lindsay Avalon's romantic fantasy series, The Mythrian Realm. Denver's got a serial killer haunting its streets, and homicide detective Connor Flynn is on the case. While his days are spent looking for clues, his nightly dreams have been taking him to bizarre and otherworldly places. When another mutilated corpse is found in an alley, Connor's faced with a person of interest who has no idea why she's covered with the victim's blood or how she got into the alleyway. Her name is Sha Phoenix, and she has neither any identification nor a cellphone. When Connor brings her in for questioning, she's unable to give him any useful information, though she does raise a few eyebrows at the station when she levitates a metal table in the interview room. Lindsay Avalon's urban/epic romantic fantasy, Breaking the Nexus: The Mythrian Realm, Book 1, is an original and exciting novel that adroitly combines the police procedural and fantasy genres. While most of the action in this book takes place in Denver, the reader gets tantalizing glimpses of Sha's world, the Mythrian Realm, where her job seems to parallel Connor's role as a police detective. Both of them are fighters and champions, and it's a lot of fun to see how these two well-matched and competent characters work and play together. While the mystery takes precedence in this outstanding debut offering, the author includes some steamy, yet tasteful, erotic moments when Connor and Sha have a bit of downtime at his cabin. I had a marvelous time reading this book. I loved the blending of genres and especially appreciated Avalon's strong female lead. And yes, I'm quite curious about Sha's mystical realm and expect that I'll find out a bit more about it in the next book of the series. Breaking the Nexus: The Mythrian Realm, Book 1 is most highly recommended.

I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. And Let me be honest, at first I just wasn't into it. It took me longer to read the first couple chapters and get into the story that normal. But once I got reading and the story got going, I was hooked. I loved the chemistry and attraction between Sha and Connor, very hot! Much better chemistry in this book than in the last erotica book I read!! lol Sha is impulsive and Conner is usually by the books and this was working good for them in this story. Ian, Conner's partner on the Detective squad, also has a connection with Conner-that best-friend know what you're doing connection. As all Hell breaks loose Sha and Connor fall in love, find clues to a series of murders and stop the world from ending. For me as a reader, relatively new to Paranormal books, this was great. I think this series will be a big hit. And this new author did a great job I can't gush over the book more without spilling things that happen in the book and ruin it for you. But highly recommend for you to read, 4.5 stars

This book sounded so interesting and had incredible potential to be a great read. It was fabulous! I couldn’t put it down! Lindsay Avalon creates a whole new world and weaves it into the story so well, that I could believe it exists. I didn’t notice any holes in the imagery and description where she might have lost consistency. Mytheria is clearly depicted and I was so intrigued with it! What made it even more compelling was the fact that she threw in some normalcy, little things like hair dye. It seems insignificant, but it ties the mythical world to the human world just enough that you don’t feel such disconnect, that the two worlds don’t belong in the same book.  I loved the characters in this book. Especially Sha and Connor. Sha has a fabulous sarcastic wit that had me chuckling out loud several times. She is forced to fib in the beginning, but it’s so clearly a struggle for her. She is very much a “say it as it is” kind of gal. I think heroines are harder to make likable in a book. Sha quickly became one of my all-time favorite leading ladies. She knows what she wants and goes after it, she’s confident in her abilities and who she is, and she’s funny as hell. She is other worldly in many ways, commenting on the differences between the two realms, but she is adaptable and so believable. She’s not a damsel in distress, but she knows when to let Connor take the lead, just as she expects him to follow her when the situation is better suited to her knowledge. One of the best things about her though is that she is a complete match for Connor. She gives as good as she gets.  Connor is just so yummy. He is strong and smart, but even more important, he knows when to roll with the punches. He doesn’t fall into denial when he sees what is right in front of him.  The instant attraction between Connor and Sha grows really fast, but it flows with the story line. I think when a story is full of myth and imagination, falling in love in a few days doesn’t seem all that unreasonable. The way that Connor comes to accept it fairly quickly, just racked up even more stud points in my ledger. Connor’s got the sexy, tough cop thing down pat!  Sha and Connor are an explosive duo, in and out of the bedroom. There is plenty of steamy in the book, but also some great action! I was never bored and as soon as I’m done with this review, I’ll be picking up the novella that follows this book! Fair warning, it ends on a cliffhanger, but the novella and next book are out, so you won’t have to wait and agonize!  I look forward to more from this author!

Breaking the Nexus is a unique faerie tale full of adventure, love and mystery. Ms. Avalon invites into the unique, unseen Mythrian Realm, separated from our world by the Nexus, where our dreams, fantasies and fairy tales come.  Sha, a warrior Fire Mage, crosses the "Gate"to our world to pursue a rogue dragon. She finds so much more at stake even her heart when Connor, a detective enters the fray.  I was blown away by the imagination and talent poured into this book. I find that indies either fall into the no talent never should write a book and the amazing best-selling material, and Lindsay Avalon falls into the latter. I look forward to the Rise of the Phoenix and hope to see more from Ms. Avalon.

I will start by saying sorry kiddies, this ones for the big people LOL and by that I mean Adult themes  this is also a great fantasy type story as well. You’ve got your human police and a supernatural as well. Most of the time, if you as a human saw a supernatural use their powers, you’d freak out! Well these police decide that the supernatural will be very useful to their investigation. Plus the detective working for the other side is hot lol I also like how the romance played out. Yes Sha and Conner had an attraction and maybe some draw to each other, but it wasn’t like “oh you’re hot”… And fall into bed. Plus they had some serious “other” issues to deal with, like a killer going around trying to do unspeakable evils  I very much like the magical world that was created. The Mythrian Realm is like a parallel to the mortal realm. “The Nexus” is what keeps these two worlds apart and if you break that little thing, lets just say I love Dragons, but I don’t want them falling in my yard to eat my fur babies lol So when Sha is literally thrown from her world to ours because of these problems, she realizes that she’s got to stop that barrier from breaking. And there comes your mystery plot!  which is well done by the way. Plus there’s plenty of action to go around! The writing was well done. Plus there’s some great supporting characters as well! You know I love this. And a small spoiler, there’s a cliff hanger- so, I guess this means I will just HAVE TO read book two  and I love that everything felt real, even if it was magical. I am definitely in for book two! 4 MAGICALLY DELICIOUS PAWS!

Breaking the Nexus (Mythrian Realm #1) by Lindsay Avalon Sha Phoenix is a Mythrian. She patrols the borders to make sure that the Nexus a magical barrier erected millennia ago to separate the two realms. Humans and Non Humans, you know all the fairy-tales you read about or hear about. Yes they are real. While on patrol one day Sha comes across a portal on the verge of collapse she is accidentally transported to the human realm. Sha awakes in a puddle of blood and a dead man with Runs on his cover, she realizes that this is blood magic. Detective Connor Flynn is one of the first on the scene and knows that Sha is not telling him everything . He has no clue that she is from another realm or that his life will take a drastic turn and make him evaluate his personal beliefs. Together they must find and stop the Serial killer before he stops them. Why did it take me this long to read this book, I am kicking myself! This book is fantastic and so much fun to read. I didn't want it to end! The story line is incredible and very believable. I was drawn right in as if I was part of the story! This tells me what a Great Author Lindsay Avalon is! I will be reading every book she publishes as soon as they are online! 5 STARS Patches

Breaking the Nexus was a fun, exciting read filled with action, lust, love, mystery and danger that I could have easily finished in one sitting if I'd had the time and real life had left me the heck alone. I wanted to barricade my freaking door and keep everyone out so I could little...more and see what would happen next. I love when I find a book that pulls me in so completely. Okay so action starts off right from the beginning with the Nexus, which basically divides a magical world from the non magical human world, being compromised and our heroine, Sha, being sucked through the portal and landing smack dab in the middle of a bloody crime scene that yummy Detective Connor will soon be investigating  Gah! Yeah, it was an excellent start- filled with suspicion and drama- and just a great way for them to meet. I loved it. There were some really nice surprises along the way as the two felt each other out, had to learn to trust each other and deal with an overwhelming case of insta-lust while trying to figure out who was using blood magic to try and destroy the wall keeping all the magical beasties out of the human world. The action was fantastic and I really enjoyed the mixing of the two worlds and seeing the results. Makes a girl real damn glad all the creepy critters we read about are ofhso fictional and trapped in the pages of a book. Whew! Yeah it'll get your heart pounding just a wee bit. I loved both of the main leads, Sha and Connor, and really loved his partner Ian as well. Their humor, their honor and determination. It was all amazing. They interact well and you can see the bonds forming between all of them which was really nice. Ooo and the steamy scenes between Sha and Connor? I really enjoyed the balance Avalon created between the romance and action. They fit together nicely and never felt too heavy handed one way or the other. One little warning if you only read traditional romances where everything single thing is wrapped up neat and tidy on the last page. The ending on this one? Oh it's a cliffhanger. But it's a really freaking excellent cliffhanger and I loved it! This is definitely a complete story but with how things were left book two is going to be crazy good. Avalon really sucked me into the world she created and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next for this group of characters and the new addition that was thrown into the mix at the last moment.

I fell for the characters from the beginning with their banter and quirky commentary. The mystery of wanting to know what's going to happen next made this story a quick read and page turner. Everyone wants to get their hands on a great story, laid out with vivid pictures and amazing characters. I fell for Connor's personality and train of thought. Sha is a very sensual and interesting character. I loved the interest between the two characters as they grew fonder of each other throughout the story. I loved the thoughts that played out in their heads as they tried to deny it. The mystery of the story caught my attention from the beginning and the puzzle pieces came together beautifully. The author captured my interest in so many ways, with all that is within the books pages I couldn't get enough! I want the next book right this minute! Can't wait... I was given this book for an honest review... Thanks so much for such an amazing story and good read!

In the first of an exciting new series, Lindsay Avalon has created a new world to get lost in as you follow the action and root for the characters to maintain the Nexus. Sha and Connor are inexplicably attracted to one another, even knowing that they should maintain distance and their banter and clever interior monologues helped to fix their characters solidly in the story.  With the potential dangers should the Nexus be breached by the stuff of dreams and legend, there is a tension as characters must battle and outwit, trying to secure and alleviate the issues.  Adding to that, the human stories of a serial killer and the hunt to find and stop those crimes provides an interesting counterpoint and reveals Connor as more than just a simple human.  A perfectly timed end-point will leave readers panting for the next installment, and has garnered this author a new fan.  If you appreciate the collide of several stories, set in a beautifully detailed world, with romantic tension, clever banter and a series of clever plot twists, this is the series for you.   I purchased an eBook copy of Breaking the Nexus for my own personal collection. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

R2R: Breaking the Nexus (I received a free copy, in exchange for a review) There are many tales, legends and myths, that we all know. Well, what happens if all of those stories are actually real and existing in a parallel world. There are Sentinels stationed to watch the Gateways, making sure that no one goes into the human world and no human enters their world. Sha is one of those watchers and then the unthinkable happens. After an explosion, she finds herself in the human world, blood all over her and a dead body close by.  What is happening in the worlds, to cause this and who is this Detective, that has some link to her?  "The portals exist, but there are so many layers of safeguards preventing one from opening that your average person shouldn't be able to do it. Any attempts set off alarms to the Sentinels. Except for the occasional creature who slips through small fissures before it can be repaired, it's impossible fir these men to be here." Even though it is a short story, it was so packed with action, that you forget about that and want more! Great characters and an interesting take on mythology and such. I really cannot wait to see what happens! Need more...

From the first page, the mystery, suspense, and action had me hooked! I couldn't put it down ... I read through to the end of the story much quicker than I thought I would!!! The plot was a completely unique and different plot from what I expected. The cliffhanger left me in suspense and now I cannot wait to read book two as soon as it comes out!! Lindsay Avalon takes readers on a unique roller-coaster ride in this fantasy story about the Nexus and those who are sworn to protect it. Ms. Avalon impresses with her ability to capture and hold a readers attention and the story flows rather well. Her debut novel scores a win and no doubt will tickle the fancy of every fantasy reader out there. Personally, I would have loved to see more of this story, so I am beyond happy that Breaking the Nexus is only the beginning. The intro to this refreshing new series leaves those who read it eagerly awaiting book #2! I know I'll be waiting anxiously for the follow-up...good job Lindsay!
