Hubbard’s fourth Seasons of the Heart installment (after Winter of Wishes) features pretty Annie Mae Knepp, daughter of the overbearing Amish bishop who alienated his congregation in earlier books. Annie Mae, just 17, is torn between loyalty and responsibility to her motherless siblings and the normal wish of a teenager to explore romantic relationships. Her new job as a waitress at the Sweet Seasons Café throws her into contact with quiet carpenter Adam Wagler, whose face lights up when he sees her, but she is too busy flirting with more exciting young men to value his friendship until crisis strikes. The warm and supportive town of Willow Ridge will appeal to readers who appreciate the traditional values and neighborly ways of the plain folk. Agent: Evan Marshall Agency. (May)
