Bridge of Comprehension by Albert Mordechai

I will NOT sit around and watch my people choking to death, crying to death, suffocating and breaking out into hives because of a Syrian projectile. I will NOT sit in the comfort of this apartment in this comfortable country while my people suffer. I cannot

Family harmony reigned in Brooklyn among Amir, his wife, Amanda, and her parents, Mahmoud and Michelle, despite their different religious upbringings. All of that changed when Amir was called back to his homeland of Israel to help secure a warehouse full of chemical weapons held by a Syrian militia that threatened to wreak havoc on the Holy Land. Suddenly, Mahmoud could no longer talk to Amir without having a panic attack, Amanda's extended family bitterly criticized her choice of mate, and Amanda herself wondered if she could stay in a marriage with a man that was ready and willing to defend his country at any time. Would Amir live to reconcile the ruptures in his family or die valiantly on the battlefield? Could Mahmoud have a change of heart and grow out of his racist attitudes towards Israelis? Is it even possible for Jews, Muslims, and Christians to share our planet in peace? Bridge of Comprehension touches on issues raised every day in our news headlines and our own homes, exploring how religious, cultural, and personal divisions can be overcome by mutual understanding and tolerance. Follow this intriguing novel from the New York City basement where jihadists plan bomb attacks to the corner of Syria where chemical warfare threatens to erupt and find out how peace could possibly break out in our world.

Reviewed by Faridah Nassozi for Readers' Favorite The threat to the existence and safety of Israel was getting stronger day by day, especially coming from Syria where the chaos of the aftermath of the Arab Spring was threatening to spill into Israel. Amir knew that it was just a matter of time before he was called to defend his motherland and, as much as the anticipation of the call filled him with anxiety, he also knew that it was one he would answer without hesitation. The war between Syria and Israel, however, had a much bigger implication for Amir than for many others. Defending his beloved country would in a way mean fighting against his own family. His father-in-law was not just a Muslim but one with blood relatives in Syria and with kin in the very militia that Amir was to help kill. Therefore, for Amir this was not just a war between Jews and Muslims. It was one that had the potential to completely rip his family apart. Bridge of Comprehension by Albert Mordechai is a captivating tale about the Middle East crisis. A lot has been written about the gruesome after effects of the Arab Spring; both fiction and nonfiction. However, by approaching this story from the personal side, Albert Mordechai put a fresh spin to the theme, made it more memorable, and a lot more relatable. Ordinarily, many people focus on the political ramifications of such events, but Albert Mordechai put a personal touch to the Middle East crisis. It is deeply saddening to see the struggle of those caught in the middle as innocent personal relationships are continually strained and tested by such events.

Reviewed by Mamta Madhavan for Readers' Favorite Bridge of Comprehension by Albert Mordechai is a story that deals with human emotions and their complexities. It's a story of love, a story of understanding, and a story of hope set against the backdrop of the Middle Eastern problems where the conflict in Syria threatens to spread to Israel. Amir is worried about the plight of his land, Israel. Amir had heard from friends about the fear of launching chemical weapons. Amir is called back to Israel to help secure a warehouse of chemical weapons held by the Syrian military. Amir's wife, Amanda, has had many arguments with her parents, Mahmoud and Michelle, regarding Amir where they always disapproved of her choice. Will Amanda be able to accept Amir's decision of defending Israel at any time? Will Mahmoud be able to forget their religious differences and accept Amir? The story has many dimensions to it and the author handles the different emotions of the different characters very nicely. From Brooklyn to Syria, this story also exposes the hazards and fears of a chemical weapon attack which can threaten world peace. The story is palpable and it highlights the loyalty of a person towards his country. The author also does a great job in portraying religious differences and how mutual understanding can help people live peacefully in a world of diverse cultures and religions. The book also questions whether Jews, Muslims, and Christians can ever get rid of their religious intolerance and live peacefully together in society. The style of writing is fluid, neat, and elegant, and connects well with readers. The well executed plot is tangible and relevant, making it a compelling read.

Reviewed by Ray Simmons for Readers' Favorite Bridge of Comprehension by Albert Mordechai is a powerful novel dealing with complex subjects. Anyone who wants to learn more about the Middle East should read this very important book. As I write this review, Donald Trump has made his statement about no Muslims being allowed into America and the whole world is thinking very hard about the refugees from Syria. Israel has been dealing with the instability of the Middle East since its inception. This is a great read. Amir is a complicated character but he is sympathetically drawn. He is a Jew, a warrior, and a family man with all the complications these things imply. His wife, Amanda, is a Christian with Muslims in her family. In this family, the Middle Eastern problem never goes away, like a gloomy cloud hanging around the apartment. Amir is a successful Jew living in New York. When he get's called up, you can bet things are very, very hot. Bridge of Comprehension by Albert Mordechai is a novel looking at these problems from the perspective of building bridges between the hearts and minds of the many players involved. Albert Mordechai puts a human face on a very important problem. Everyone knows the Middle East needs this bridge. Albert Mordechai may be one of the few people who can build it. I've often found that a well written informative novel on a subject is much better than thousands of sound bites on the evening news. This is one of those powerful, informative novels.
