Great collaboration as a solution to a priority health problem! Several diseases have been appearing or increasing from the industrialization and the appearance of processed foods. This book contains much valuable information, well explained, expands knowledge of the subject and integrates them into a program that is worth putting into practice: Susan Pierce tells us clearly, with scientific papers and real life cases, how our brains are reacting to processed foods, so some of them are causing us a kind of addiction. She includes the psychological part that comes into play in the face of this challenge, explaining that from the point of view of Saboteur and Self-perception Theory this incapacity we experience to lose weight can affect our sense of who we are, our self-esteem and hope, or when we decide that we do not appreciate ourselves enough because we have betrayed ourselves by eating what our body-brain demands of us with its inner voices. Based on her own overweight, career and neuropsychological research and sustainable weight loss psychology, the author delivers a practical program to learn how to overcome the biological obstacle that our brain represents when it blocks our efforts to lose weight, teaches us to regain control and turn it around to succeed. This program considers the need to heal the damage to our dopamine downregulation receptors, which is the cause of depression and addiction, and on the other hand our resistance to leptin which causes overwhelming cravings and insatiable hunger. What is causing the malfunction is the excessive stimulation of dopamine receptors and excess insulin that affects the signals of the hypothalamus and brain stem when we eat processed foods that raise their blood levels. I will cite a very enlightening paragraph where the author gives us her opinion on this serious problem: “I’ll tell you what’s extreme. Each year in the United States alone, over 70,000 people have to get a limb amputated because of Type 2 diabetes. …Their doctors have warned them it’s coming, but it doesn’t matter. They can’t stop. They eat until they lose a limb. That is extreme. That is how powerful this addiction is. Giving up processed drug-foods isn´t extreme, what’s extreme is the way our society eats -and the consequences we’ve decide we’re willing to tolerate as a result”. It is a book that I definitely recommend for all families, regardless of whether they are overweight or not, should consider withdrawing some food for the sake of their children, consuming processed foods cause malnutrition and diseases associated with conditions of chronic inflammation and immunodeficiency such as cancer . It is now a priority to educate ourselves and to inform us to be proactive and to sustain a healthy life, since it is very clear that the western medical services are based on the treatment of the disease and not on sustaining the health, therefore they are not preventing these conditions; In addition the food industry is enriched in spite of the affectations that generates in its consumers. My gratitude to the Publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to review the book

This book is incredible and delivers on the promise of answering the question about why so many diets fail us. Dr. Susan not only talks the talk she has walked the walk. She explains the relationship food has to our brain and gives us a solution that actually works long-term. I feel so blessed to have read this book and well on my way to being happy, thin and free.

I started reading this book and couldn’t put it down! It is amazing to read about the science behind why people have such a hard time managing their food intake. As I was reading the book, there were so many things that rang true for me and I had many “aha!” moments. I love that the author shares her own story with food addiction. You can tell she is a really genuine person, and it is clear that her main motivation for writing this book is to help as many people as possible overcome their addictive behavior with food. I loved reading the many testimonials from people who have been following BLE and have had amazing success. The book format is very easy to read and it gives you all the information you need to start eating this way - all the tools are right there. I can’t wait to start on my journey to Happy, Thin and Free!

This is one of the best books to explain why we fail at weight loss since The Hungry Chick Dieting Solution by Chef Jai Scovers. I love how Thompson breaks down the Will Power Gap. I only have one complaint. Dr. Thompson has a grid that shows foods and quantities of food which takes it to the level of a diet where you weigh your food and can have "1 fat" at lunch and dinner. The psychological aspect is excellent, the food suggestions need work. Hungry Chick doesn't deny you food, it just offers better choices or portion control ideas. The one about the plate, I still use to this day to this day thanks to Chef Jai. Good read though.

What a relief to have a neuroscientist so clearly explain that I’m not just a weak-willed person because of my weight, despite success in so many other areas of my life. My brain has been hijacked. My ever-worsening battle with my weight is mainly due to the Standard American Diet. I had no idea. The mere thought of giving up my beloved pastries practically had me breaking out in hives, which just proves the point: I’m a 10 on the susceptibility scale. This book beautifully and clearly opened my eyes to the scientific reality of sugar and flour addiction, along with strategies to make a complete life change. I have had so many yo-yos with my weight over the years that I had given up and tried to just accept myself the way I was. Dr. Susan Peirce Thompson has given me hope that I can once again face the mirror and the camera without flinching, shop for sizes that I thought I would never see again, and return to the activities I had relinquished because of joint pain.

I loved the common sense way the book explains the science behind the program. I found the instructions easy to follow and enjoyable to read.

For anyone who has a history of 'food fear' or 'food addiction' this book delves into the science (YEA!) and emotional ramifications of overeating. It is a viscous cycle and getting beyond it requires the tools and information this researcher has provided! Not only is she a PhD brain and cognitive researcher, she is a scientist with an overeating history. Her plan is getting the attention of others exploring the difficult arena of food, health, diabetes, illness, obesity, heart disease and many, many more. I commend her for her difficult journey, perseverance, and for sharing it with the rest of us!

Bright Line Eating is cutting edge science on sustainable weight loss and maintenance. Susan Peirce Thompson has done remarkable research on the Neuro Science of the badly behaving brain, and how it can be healed. This book is nothing short of a miracle, offering hope to solve the obesity pandemic. As a medical professional of 43 years, I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for the final food plan for a future of living happy, thin, and free. Don't miss it!

I love this book and this program. This is the only weight loss program that I've ever been successful at. She not only explains what is keeping you from losing weight, but gives you the answers of why it is hard to lose weight and the solution to lose weight and to live Happy, thin and Free! It is a simple program, but not easy. But let me tell you, I have never felt so good on diet my whole life.

This is an excellent book for anyone searching for a path to health, wellness, happiness and the knowledge of what it will take to eat the way needed for weight loss but most importantly, weight maintenance. It's an answer to a question more people should pay attention to instead of following herd behavior in eating.

If you need to lose weight & think you can’t because 1) you don’t have the willpower 2) you are insatiably hungry or 3) you have over powering cravings, then by the time you have read the first three chapters of this book you will have a new perspective. Dr. Susan Peirce Thompson explains the science behind each of these & helps you understand why all your best efforts have failed, (it’s not your fault) then she supplies you with everything you need to get control of your life & move yourself out of the muck. I bought the hardcover book & the audiobook. I appreciate that SPT read the audiobook herself. In the bootcamp videos & her weekly vlog, she is always transparent & genuine. Aside from the science, this has been one of the biggest selling points for me. This book & the program come to you from someone who has been in your shoes. She has felt your pain & she has managed to lose her excess weight & keep it off for 13 years. As someone who has lost large amounts of weight previously only to regain most of it, this got me. As of today, I have been on the Bright Line Eating program for 194 days & I am down 56 lbs. I still have a long way to go, but I am confident that, as long as I follow the program, I will reach my goal and, more importantly, be able to maintain it. I am free from cravings. I almost don’t even need the bright line about not eating between meals, because I am free from hunger. I took a road trip with my kids for spring break & I was not even tempted to snack while on the road. Road trip snacks are a staple, right? Now it doesn’t even occur to me. I have stopped biting my nails! I’m 41 & have always bitten my nails. I don’t even know how to care for them! I’ve never had to do it. I didn’t try to stop. I didn’t even realize it until they got in my way while typing one day. I also have dreams now! I have very rarely had any memorable dreams for several years, then I started waking up & remembering that I had dreamt about 90’s movie mash-ups or something else. These have to be side effects of the BLE program & allowing my brain to heal. I haven’t changed anything else. So what I am saying is – it is working for me. Back to the book. Since I am in the program, I had heard a lot of topics before, so my favorite part of the book was really the testimonials. I am in a bootcamp house & the Bright Lifers house on Facebook, so I hear these kinds of stories often from all sorts of people. I never get tired of it. One of the worst things about obesity is that it can be very isolating. It is, first of all, refreshing to know that so many other people have felt that same isolation. Everyone feels like no one understands, but SO MANY people do! It is also good to know that we can get past that. Whether the testimonial is someone who needs to lose 100 lbs or 10 lbs, the stories reflect real people. For every one of those success stories, how many real people are struggling & haven’t heard of this program or aren’t ready for the healing lifestyle change? For me, it was an upcoming plane ride with coworkers & an overwhelming fear that I would have to request a seat belt extender. It wasn’t my health or happiness that motivated me, it was fear of embarrassment. Now I am 39 days away from another plane ride, & I will probably be another 10 lbs closer to my goal weight by the time I get on that plane. I get to be one of those success stories. I get to live Happy, Thin, & Free.

The science behind this book & how food addiction works to sabotage our weight control, is a true discovery. Susan Pierce-Thompson has put together a plan for control of our lives to find happy, thin & free.

My son is a professor and knows Susan Peirce Thompson personally. He told me about Bright Line Eating and had lost a considerable amount of weight on their food plan in less than three months. He encouraged me to try it and there are not enough superlative adjectives for me to describe how happy I am that he did! For the first time in over 25 years I feel as if I am finally in control of my weight. Not only have I dropped down two dress sizes since the first of the year, but I recently had my semi-annual check-up with my cardiologist and she was amazed at my results! Not only had I lost a considerable amount of weight but my lab results were ALL in the normal range for the first time ever! I actually took the book to her to read, and I recommend it to everyone who notices my weight loss and asks me about it. Before Bright Line Eating I tried every diet out there, and yes, I would lose weight. But I could never stick with the program and would gain back the weight plus extra pounds. In addition to constantly referring to sections in the book, I watch Susan's weekly vlogs to stay motivated, and if you have a weight problem, or you have an obsession with food as I have always had, I encourage you to read this book and become part of the BLE family. I intend to continue Bright Line Eating for the rest of my life and be "happy, thin, and free."

The book lays out the science of the brain and food in simple terms. The plan removes sugar and flour from the diet and focuses on three and only three meals a day. But there is so much more you get out of Bright Line Eating. Read the book, watch her vlogs and change your life. I am.

This information completely resonates with me! I am not a yo yo diver, i had about 20 lbs to lose, and I was trying through exercise to get it off. I though I ate pretty well, until I started to notice all the extra stuff I was putting in my mouth. Just not necessary. I love the concept that there is not "cheating" just sets my brain up for failure for that day. I did the 14 day challenge then received the book and it reinforces the simple plan for eating. Really, this is simple, not easy. Same thing they say in AA about drinking. The program is simple, but not easy. But like many now know, IT WORKS if you work it. What I also love about the book is the constant citation and reference to the studies she uses to back up her discussion of the physiological functions of the body and brain. Fascinating world.

This book should be a required reading for anybody trying to lose weight. If you need to read one book on this subject (out of tens of thousands available) - read this one. The author comes from a very deep understanding of the subject and from many years of practical work helping herself and many others to lose weight - and to keep it off long term. Amazing book.

This book provides the answers a food addict is looking for. The science made perfect sense and the answers provided work. I have read the book twice to make sure I left nothing out. Her program is demonstrating success like no others out there. If you want to lose the cravings and desires for the foods that cause stumbling blocks for you, this is it.

With all of the great reviews I read, I was excited to check this out. Seems like the rave reviews may have been paid reviews? Not very well written. The information in the book is nothing new. And the testimonials were a little too over the top.
