About the Author

Karen Booth is a Midwestern girl transplanted in the South, raised on 80s music, Judy Blume, and the films of John Hughes. A former music-industry exec, Karen writes smart, steamy contemporary romance--big city loves stories and rock star romances.

When Karen isn't creating fictional musicians, she's listening to everything from Otis Redding to Duran Duran to Tokyo Police Club with her kids, honing her Southern cooking skills (she makes some mean collard greens), or sweet-talking her astoundingly supportive husband into whipping up a batch of cocktails.

Karen Booth has a hit on her hands with her first full-length novel. She pulled me in from the very beginning, made me laugh at times (I fell apart at the Petri dish reference), and gave me that familiar ache in my chest when I get to that part of a book where it can bring out my own emotions from relating to what the characters are going through. She gives the right amount of description to detail so you have an idea of the surroundings. Her characters are believable right down to Chris’s British expressions (you can’t just say someone is British and give them an Americanized vocabulary so kudos to her on not doing that!) and Claire’s teenage daughter Sam and her antics. Claire Abby is presented with her inner 17 year old self’s dream, meeting her rock star crush Christopher Penman. She’s given the chance to bolster her music critic career with a cover story for Chris who is notorious for avoiding any personal questions. What she didn’t expect was to end up in a relationship with Chris and all the triumphs and pitfalls that come with his fame. Bring Me Back takes you from Claire and Chris’s initial meeting and explores their attempt at looking for a way to make a relationship lasting living on opposite sides of the U.S.  When I get sucked into a book and say “this is the last chapter and then I’m going to bed”, I feel that’s my best way of saying it’s a great book. The end left me wanting to know more about them and maybe even wanting to hear some things from Chris’s point of view. Be ready to pull an all-nighter as you won’t be able to put this down!

What to say? This book is amazing. It's funny, it's sweet, it's heartbreaking at times. I laughed, I cried. What more can you ask for? I guess the best part of all is that it's relatable. I was once a 17 year girl with a crush on a rock star, writing my married name on my high school notebooks. Now as a 40ish woman, thinking how it would be to meet them, fall in love, ahhhhh. It's just a brilliant story. I actually can't wait to read it again.

It has been a long, long time since I've loved a book so much I literally couldn't stop reading it until I was finished. Bring Me Back is amazing. Simply amazing. I laughed and cried, and laughed some more and just ached for Chris and Claire as they struggled to make their relationship work. I knew there had to be an HEA, but how the author would get there had me on pins and needles. Every emotion was real, the characters flawed just as we are. And can't help rooting for them. I can't say enough good things about Bring Me Back. I never wanted it to end, so I was thrilled to learn there was a sequel with Chris and Claire, Back Forever. ARC received from author in exchange for an honest review.

Bring Me Back is a story every girl who has ever had a teenage crush on a band member can relate to. Honestly, what girl hasn't dreamed about being an adult and meeting the guy whose posters were all over her bedroom walls? This is the story of what happens when one lucky woman gets to live out her teenage dreams. Claire Abby is a freelance music writer for various magazines/blogs. Claire’s biggest break to date just fell into her lap. Claire has the opportunity to get an exclusive interview with her teenage heartthrob, Christopher Penman, of the group Banks Forest. If things go well, her interview will land her and Christopher on the cover of Rolling Stone. Christopher Penman is the former guitarist for the 80s rock band, Banks Forest. Christopher has had a tumultuous private life. He is notorious for being very private about his life and hates the media as much as a shark loves fresh meat. Chris has been burned in the past and no one wants to know what has really happened. Let’s face it, scandal sells magazines and pictures are always worth a thousand words, even when the pictures are misleading and deceiving. Chris is attempting a second solo comeback and needs to get his name out there, but he plans to do it on his own terms. For Chris, his interview with Claire started out just being vague. He had every intention of just playing around with her and not giving her too much information. But as Chris suddenly feels a connection with Claire, things changed and he shares with Claire things he has NEVER talked about before. Claire is a single mother to a seventeen-year-old girl. Her love/lust for Chris puts her career in jeopardy. She is powerless to fight the connection she has to Chris. Secrets are revealed that could destroy her relationship with Chris and everything she’s worked so hard for professionally. Over the course of the book, you’re able to ride along with Claire and Chris on their journey from being adversaries, to their friendship, to their love for each other. Also along the way, you will experience their heartbreak and anguish. Christopher and Claire are characters that you will immediately fall in love with. Having my own teenage crush, I can totally see myself in Claire’s shoes. Possibly doing all the same things she does. One can only hope that for all of us girls out there who once had the same dreams, that Claire will find her happy ever after and allow us to live vicariously through her. Claire Abby was a single mom who has finally gotten her big break with Rolling Stone magazine.  She was getting a feature interview with none other than Christopher Penman, guitarist for her favorite British rock band Banks Forest.  Claire was stuck between jumping up and down as the teenage girl she was getting to meet her crush or celebrating that this could be just what she needs to ensure she can send her teenage daughter to college.  When she meets Chris, she finds he's not at all what she had imagined in her teenage mind or what she had read in the scandal sheets.  He's flirty, fun and has a way of making her forget about everything except how she feels when she's with him.  But when reality, in the form of Chris' ex-wife, Claire's ex-boyfriend and the tabloids, enters their relationship will they be able to stick together as a team or will they walk away? Chris and Claire were incredible complex people.  The each had their own emotional issues that made getting involved with one another complicated.  But when it came down to it, they were best when they were together.  They balanced each other out.  Chris was not only Claire's lover, but her best friend.  She could open up to him about things and know he wouldn't judge her the way her father or sister would.  For Chris, Claire (for lack of a better term) rooted him.  She gave him a sense of family and of worth, something he'd desperately been missing with his ex-wife.  Together they were a strong unit that could face anything together.   There were times when they let their insecurities from the past creep into their relationship.  But it wasn't only their insecurities that did a number on them.  In the end, they had to figure out what was better, living a life of agony without each other or fighting to get past this hurdle and be together.   There was something about this book that I just loved.  I'm not sure if it was the fact that the Claire and Chris were my age or if it was because Claire was able to live out every teenage girls dream and catch her rock star prince.  Whatever it was, this was a thoroughly enjoyable read that had me from start to finish.

There is just something about a romance, that features a rock star as the lead, that makes me swoon and fall in love/lust almost every time!  Bring Me Back and Christopher Penman are no different and, by the end of the book, I wanted to crawl into the pages and become Claire. Claire is a single mother and music writer who lands the job of her dreams interviewing  Christopher Penman, her favorite rock star as a teenager; she never realizes how much her life will change from that one interview.   Christopher Penman is a British rock star who is trying to make a go of a solo career with his newest album release.  He agrees to an interview, with a major music magazine, in hopes that he can generate interest for his work.  He never realizes how much his life will change from that one interview. This book was absolutely fabulous and I identified with Claire very easily. The story concept was exceptional and taken straight from the dreams of many a teenage girl.  Even though it was built from fantasy, the story was very believable and well-written.  The characters were richly developed and their emotions, along with personalities, transcended the page.  The fact that both characters were more mature was a huge plus for me.  These were characters who have lived, learned and knew what they wanted and needed from life.  There were no games or tricks - just two people, who lead very different lives, trying to figure out how to make it all work.  I would have liked to see the sexual encounters be a little steamier and more explicit; but since it’s classed as Women’s Fiction, I understand why it wasn’t.  I also REALLY wanted an epilogue.  The ending was too abrupt and left me wanting so much more! If you are a music lover, if you love books that feature rock stars, or if you love books that feature a completely delicious male lead character - then Bring Me Back is a must read for you!  Full of humour, love, acceptance, compromises & raw sensuality, Karen Booth delivers an amazing read that is sure to land on your favorites list!

Bring Me Back begins with a diary entry on March 7, 1986 from Claire, where we learn about her love for Banks Forest and her crush for Christopher Penman. Chapter One begins twenty-two years later, where Claire is a single mother to her 17-year-old daughter. Soon enough, Claire is given an assignment to interview Christopher Penman. Not only is Christopher capable of making Claire turn into a woman who can't form coherent sentences, but he absolutely hates writers. Will Claire be able to get through this interview, and get Christopher to open up to her? Overall, this was a good story. Although it was a little hard for me to relate to Claire because of the 18 year age difference, I thought this novel was still good.

Back in 1986, seventeen year old Claire Abby had a teenage crush on Christopher Penmen, lead guitarist of the British rock band Banks Forest. Twenty-two years later, she is now a thirty-nine years old music critic / journalist and single mother of a college bound daughter. Claire is given the chance of a lifetime when she lands a Rolling Stone cover story interview assignment with the legendary British rock star of her teenage dreams. When they meet there is a mutual attraction between them, but Chris is notorious for dodging questions in regard to his past and makes her work to get the coveted story. As their friendship develops into a long-distance relationship, Claire is torn between resuming her normal ordinary life or engaging in Chris' high-profile rock star life. Can Claire and Chris' long-distance relationship survive the challenges and obstacles that come with dating someone famous? Bring Me Back is a captivating story that takes the reader on a dramatic and emotional roller coaster ride as two very different people explore the possibilities of being in a romantic relationship. Author Karen Booth weaves an entertaining tale that took me back to my teenage years of the 1980's, I definitely could relate with the universal teenage crush and fantasies over favorite famous rock stars. I really enjoyed the depth of the mature romantic storyline between a middle-aged woman and an aging rock star, there was a nice mixture of romance, chemistry, heat, drama and real life reality. This is so much more than just your typical romance story, it is one that has many layers and delves into the dynamics of relationships: Claire's relationship with her father, daughter, and ex-husband; Chris' past history and secrets; and Claire and Chris' long-distance romantic relationship. I was drawn into Claire and Chris' ordinary person/celebrity relationship, the many challenges that affects its chances to survive, and how they could make it work. With a well-developed cast of characters who are realistic, have flaws and issues, and who are easy to relate to; engaging dialogue and sassy interactions; and an evocative storyline full of steamy romance and dramatic twists and turns, Bring Me Back is a captivating story of the nuance and dynamics of love, friendships, relationships and celebrity. Bring Me Back is a story that will make you laugh, cry, blush and sigh ... it is a story that will leave you wanting more.
