Max Desalvo is a broken man. Two years ago he gave his heart, soul and body to another man’s wife, Cassidy Brannon. And, he’d thought, his child. They’d made promises, vows. One year. One year for Cassidy to secure her freedom, so they could be together. Unable to be in the same city with Cassidy and not see her, hear her voice, or touch her, Max left. While gone he waited, waited, and waited for the call that never came.
Now he’s returned to Philly, his home. Running into Cassidy was inevitable, but she isn’t the woman he remembers. If he’s broken, she’s shattered. Phillip, her husband, is dead. Why hadn’t Cassidy contacted him once she was free? And why does she gaze at him with eyes full of hurt and mistrust, as though he were the one to break her heart?
Max has a choice. Discover the truth of what happened and reclaim the love he’s lost or forever remain…broken.

A master at weaving plots and subplots story Zena Wynn is a marvelous author! Upon reading Beyond the Breaking Point and its cliff hanger ending, I could not wait to read the sequel, Broken, and Ms. Wynn did not disappoint! I started Broken and was so enthralled that I could not put it down. At the end of Breaking Point, I was extremely upset with Cassidy for her choice to “stay” with Phillip. When Broken begins Ms. Wynn threw a curve ball with the death of Phillip, the issues with Cassidy and her injury, and the issues with her child. Since I do not like spoilers, I will not give any here. I definitely did not expect to see Max so broken, as the book is so appropriately titled. While I was intrigued by the familial issues in Breaking Point, the increased familial dynamics of Broken showed me that Ms. Wynn is a master at weaving plots and subplots to keep the reader interested. I never knew where the story was going to go next. At the end of Breaking Point I wanted to get Cassidy immediately into a counselor’s chair. I was pleased to see that my advice (yes I am now in the story) was taken, and that after all she went through, she got the emotional help she needed, and by the end she is the strong woman I knew was hiding inside. The development of her relationship with Max, his relationship with Zoe and their relationships with their families was agonizing, as well as refreshing. As I noted with Breaking Point, our upbringing definitely influence our adult lives, but it is always good to see people keep the basic moral foundations and discard the extraneous issues that can stunt their development. While I understand Ms. Wynn has stated this is the end of the line for Max and Cassidy, I so wish their story could continue; I enjoyed it that much. I would love to see more to the resolution of family issues and the continued development of the new Desalvo nuclear family of Max, Cassidy and Zoe. -Reviewed by Selina
