Was waiting for this book. I loved seeing Eve's growth as a person and a survivor.

Although the occasional J. D. Robb touch appears, and attempts were made to include the hallmark identifiers that recur in all the Eve Dallas books, I believe most of this one was penned by a ghostwriter. Rourke's character has altered, McNab's as well when he appears at all, and Feeney is virtually nonexistent. The action is sleepwalking in comparison to this author's true style, and all the characters seem remote from one another, like plastic dolls in different drawers of a cabinet, taken out one at a time and never truly interacting with one another. Very disappointing. I've read all the Eve Dallas books twice, but if the next one is like this, I won't buy any more.

Honestly, I LOVED this book. Enough to leave a review. I read all of the In Death novels, but this one is the first to bring me to tears. I alwats loved Eve, but tjis one really brings in her history and her coping with it to a satisfactory conclusion. I can see Nora Roberts bringing this series to a close relatively soon. I have to say, I am really happy to watch the character growth. I cried about three times in this book, because she really made me FEEL. Can't wait for the next! As always, didn't disappoint!

Difficult subject matter. Author does a good job of dealing with it using Lt Dallas past and the restraints of the law. Always good to see the relationship between Eve and Roark strengthen. Read it so fast it makes me want to read it again. Already preorder the next book.

It didn't feel like a JDR story. It felt a bit forced & I found it hard to lose myself in the story like I normally do. It was ok story-wise, just not gripping. I don't know if she is trying a new writing style or has a ghost writer, but I do know that this book did not have the normal vibe. Usually I can't put a JDR book now, I had to force myself to finish.

I read all her books and I've enjoyed them all. I think it's time for Eve to evolve. A new beginning with Eve excepting captain bars because she becomes pregnant. No authur stays on the same tract year after year. The trick is retaining the basic personalities we fell in love with. Unlike Stephen King, who changed too much at first that I couldn't stay with him. At least she could accept captain bars, but keeps to the streets at times, or assisting in cases. It's worth a try. Real life evolves as we grow older, do we not?
