Bruce Dawe has often been typecast as a poet who has "not been able to go beyond the proleterian and ocker revolution" which he started. This book draws from post-structuralist and post-colonial theory to re-situate terms like "ocker" and "contemporary" and so offer a new reading of Dawe's poetry.

Peter Kuch is currently Senior Lecturer in the School of English at The University of New South Wales. He has published numerous articles and reviews, two study guides, ghosted a novel, co-authored a book on Australian Writers, and written several scholarly books on Anglo-Irish literature.
