Overview

Reveals how the iconic warrior attained his legendary speed, power, and footwork. Included are practical, effective stretches for increasing flexibility, abdominal exercises that can be performed anywhere, and hard-hitting advice on running, biking, skipping rope, and shadowboxing. More than just a fitness guide, this must-have manual also delves into the fundamental aspects of Bruce Lee’s revolutionary combat philosophy, jeet kune do, including how to strengthen your fists with iron-palm training, get the most out of your punches and kicks, camouflage your attacks, develop the footwork to evade almost any blow, cover distance rapidly, escape from a tight corner, conserve energy for countering, build muscles without sacrificing speed, fix flaws in your stance, and improve your peripheral vision, leverage, and timing.

Yes indeed! A few years ago, I was a musician in a band and after a gig one late night, a football hooligan (who was probably out of his mind on drugs) came along and started threatening my girlfriend and I. It all started with the classic hooligan's one liner, "What the f£$@ are you growling at!?" I tried time and time again to tell him "I don't want any trouble". I used every bit of psychology I could to reason with the guy, but all I got in return was complete mindless irrationality. After what seemed like a few minutes the guy suddenly lunged forward to within about a foot or two from where I was (but was heading straight in the direction of my girlfriend who was standing right beside me at the time, if you can visualise that!). This was CLEARLY an attack and a textbook self defence situation. Then, something happened. In a split second, somehow (and from nowhere!), I recalled and executed a technique that I had read a few months earlier from the orange Fighting Method book. I can't recall exactly every single moment of what happened. All I know is that there were a few punches and a low level knee kick followed by a takedown. The whole thing was over in under three seconds. Without even consciously thinking about it, I absolutely HAD executed a technique that was mentioned in this book! I can even remember the page and the picture and everything (if anyone's interested, email me)!!! So, the book DID save me, and probably my girlfriend too! Thank you Bruce!!! PS- I'm NOT a martial artist. I don't go to any clubs and at the time of the incident I weighed about 10 stone and was a bit of a weakling (I guess I still am!).

Proper training, technique and mentality are demonstrated in this series. The examples cover most street scenarios and are an awesome tool for citation in combatives. Sparring is a core training tool, and the sparring partner can benefit from this reading as well. Read, fight and be merry.

Definitely a good book for those interested in Jeet Kune Do and those trying to get a basic idea of where some of the ideas come from. You're not going to "learn" JKD from a book, but you can learn some of the basic principles behind it with this one.
