I think I grew up here. I know all of these people. Every small southern town has it's characters, secrets and the gossip. This book was so much fun. Don't miss this one!

I enjoyed this book a lot. The first few pages seemed a little slow, but then it took off and kept my attention. It was funny and had great characters.

My wife bought me a Nook Color for christmas. The first book I have completed already is this book. I could not put this story down. This story is a great redneck slapstick\murder mystery. I love the characters and for those who live in a small town can relate. Some choice words I did not like. Derek D

I saw a lot of reviews that complained of poor editing, but it's a FREE book and if you can get passed a few misspellings it's a fun read!!!

I like mystery; I like humor; I like quirky characters. I didn't like this. The story gets bogged down in long-winded descriptions of characters and in sentences I had to read twice to figure out. The book needed another session with the editor, who might have tightened the prose and fixed homophones and punctuation. I'm sorry, Bubba: you seem like a nice guy, but we're just not meant for each other.

I'm not sure whether they're typos or grammatical errors on the part of the author, but the editing could be better. Still, the book was entertaining, and I enjoyed it.

Great plot but I almost put the book down because of the editing issues. I like the writing style but the lack of good editing made it hard to read.

The story is actually not so bad, and parts of this are actually pretty funny. The writing itself is distractingly bad, however. I'm a high school teacher, and this honestly reminds me of student work. If you feel you can look past the amatuerish prose, then you might enjoy this. But it's baaaad...

I couldn't make it past the first 100 pages. The pacing tripped over itself. This is a terrific premise ruined due to lack of proper editing. It needs someone with an eye for brevity to step in. I'd like to read this after that happens. The author wove a surprisingly fun tale.

I love how the author depicts bubba. Most country men are very much like him. Southerners are always being pretrayed as dumb rednecks it's nice to see a change. Can't wait to read more of this series :)

This is a story with fun southern characters, plot twists and outlandish, over the top descriptions. Any story that takes you into a mind of a dog makes you smile. I will always remember this as my first Nook book. Yes, I would read another Bubba story.

Easy & entertaining read! Must read more about these colourful people! Bubba's mom is a real hoot!

For a free book, it was a cute story. Yes, it has bad grammar and misspelled words, but I am finding out that all of the free books have those two problems. I laughed several times out loud. I have read several of C.L. Bevill's books. Read it -- what will you have to lose? I bet you end up saying several times: "Poor Bubba."

Interesting. Unlike the grammar nazis here complaining about bad grammar, there was none. I think, however, they found the manner of southern speaking and took offense and found it offensive. Bubba was a good ole boy and his mama was a hoot!

Not exactly a nail biter for suspense, but Bubba is a real fun story as well as a real fun character. Actually, there are a bunch of real fun characters in this book, and I did have trouble putting the book down to go to sleep. While Bubba may be his name, he certainly is no ?Bubba? when it comes to the smarts department. He may get blind sided a bit too frequently, but he does not give up, keeps pushing forward, and does put it all together. I will look forward to future Bubba stories. Best wishes, Dave Wile.

Wittily written with many Southern style aphorisms, this book will appeal to those who enjoy this style of speech (and writing) as well as a murder mystery. Unfortunately for me, I found I was not one of those. The extended descriptions and explanations became a distraction and sometimes became repetitive to the point where half way through this 500+ page book, I just had to stop. Plot progress was, to borrow a phrase, slower than molasses in January. I know this is a popular series, but it just wasn't my style of writing. YMMV. So to speak.

I couldn't put this book down. Living in East Texas, I felt like I knew each of these characters. It was funny and kept me laughing. I felt myself cheering for Bubba and feeling a little dejected everytime something else went wrong for him. I can't wait to see what Bubba gets into next.
