Burke by Kathi S. Barton

Burke Bentley's decision to quit the hospital and go into practice with his brother was the best decision he'd ever made. With the daily pressures gone, he could do what he loved to do most --be a doctor.

Piper Cordale, Pip to her friends, just wanted to bust her friend out and go. She didn't handle people well and needed to be on her way, but fate had other things in store for her. Her friend's gorgeous doctor, Burke, insisted that he was her mate. Pip didn't have a mate, nor did she want one. The chore of breathing in and out was hard enough.

But when she saw Burke's nephew, Shane, sitting all alone, she reached out to him, and they formed an instant bond. She was fae and told the boy if he ever needed her, all he needed to do was call out and she'd be there.

When the unthinkable happens, and Shane and his brother Walter are targeted by a madman, can Pip reach his side fast enough? Is she strong enough to save them both?

The Bentleys must band together like never before to protect their young and pray that it's enough....

One of the greatest things about Kathi's books is that in a lot of her books she rights about the invisible demons that people can suffer in everyday life. Depression is a demon that Piper, aka Pip, fights against everyday. There are days that the depression has won and she's tried to take her life, but then there are others that she can survive. But fate has always found a way to keep her alive and in tact to find her mate when necessary. When she has to go looking for her friend Franklin, she discovers the doctor that helped to save her friend is her mate. Although she tries everything she can to keep him at arms length, the Bentley's are a tough family to resist. Burke has left working at a hospital to work in his brother's practice. The man coming into the office holding a gun to his secretary's head wasn't something Burke every expected to happen, but alas he's a doctor first and foremost, so when someone says they are in pain he can't do anything but help. When Franklin's friend comes to the hospital to check up on her friend he discovers that she is his mate, but not going to come willingly. Burke will have to break Pip's walls down and show her that no matter the demons she has, he is there to fight with her.

Wow, I am really amazed by this series. Ms. Barton always spins a good tale but this series is at the top of my like list. Burke has been so quite in the other books that I always wondered if he was suffering with the same doubt as Nolan.. He is an amazing man and Doctor and needs someone like Piper to focus his energy on and give him real purpose. Piper is quite the trip, for a faerie you would think that she would be sparkly and happy. I think faerie I see Tinkerbell and Piper is definitely not her. Piper is lost, she is depressed and struggles to go on everyday. I really liked these characters, even though Piper had issues she is very protective of her new family. She and Burke compliment each other well and give the other a purpose to focus on. There was a lot of stuff happening in this book and lots of character overlap keeping you up to date on what is happening in the family. I was not aware that faeries were a force to be reckoned with but having had them mentioned in other series I see I will have to retrain my brain from the cute Tinkerbell stereotype. I also want to point out that I am love with the grandpa, he is such a fun character but he does play a key role in keeping his family on course. As always I am excited when a new book comes out but sad as I have to wait for the next to continue. I was given an ARC for an honest review

This is the 4th book in The Bentley Series, Burke decided to leave the hospital and start his own practice with his brother. Piper or Pip as her friends call her - went to the office to get her friend out of there but when she met Burke he instantly knew she was his mate. Pip is a fae and when she met Burke's nephew, Shane, they formed an instant bond. There is a madman targeting Shane and his brother, Walter, and Pip tries to save them -- can she save them both? Will Burke and Pip make things work between them? This is a definite must read and would recommend to everyone as a book you don't want to miss out on.
