Burned by Darkness by Alexandra Ivy

The Dragons of Eternity were once creatures of mist and legend. Now they've returned to the world, prepared to claim what's rightfully theirs...

Tayla is desperate for a place to call home. After years on the run, the young imp impulsively buys a teahouse and is determined to build a new life. Unfortunately, she's barely opened the doors when she's tracked down by the dragon who purchased her from troll slave-traders. He demands she pay off her debts...in his harem.

Baine has devoted a quarter of a century to tracking down his beautiful concubine. And now that he has her in his grasp, he's not about to let her go. But it's soon apparent that he isn't the only demon hunting her. He must uncover her secrets or risk losing her forever.

Alexandra Ivy has always been one of my most read authors. She brings me new characters that are likable and I hope to see more and grow to love them as I have with most of her work.

4 - "There's not a witch in the world who has magic strong enough to keep out dragon-fire." Stars! Alexandra Ivy is an author new to me in as much that I have not read any of her work previous to Burned by Darkness, but as an author in general, she is one that I have been dying to read, for a long time, and this book being the first in the new Dragons of Eternity series, seemed like an ideal place to start. And happily I was right to wait. I love me some PNR, and this book had all the elements of the genre that I love so much, a sassy heroine, a dark, brooding, dominant alpha male, and a cast of entertaining and worthwhile secondary characters. Tayla, twenty-five years ago had the misfortune of believing she had been kidnapped from her father’s gem shop, and sold to a dragon by Troll Slave-Traders, managing to use her then unknown skills to escape, she has been on the run ever since. Baine being the dragon Talya escaped from all those years ago, has been looking for her ever since. When he finally catches up with her, sparks fly, the fires of desire rage and the sheets on the bed literally go up in flames. But the story isn’t just about this dragon finding his mate, Tayla finds out that her capture wasn’t a simple kidnapping as she thought, and Baine realizes that the woman he believes is his soul-mate, is not just going to lie down and accept her fate. Add into that her unknown skills have now become common knowledge and there are quite a few beings out to claim her as their own. He was a dragon who understood that wealth didn’t only come in gold and silver, the greatest treasure was knowledge. There is quite a lot going on in this book, we get too meet a few characters that I hope will feature more in future books, and the author does a really good job of setting the scene and giving enough background for everything, without over doing it and detracting from Baine and Tayla’s reconnection. The story was unique and well-paced, the sexy-times plentiful and perfectly described. I liked Tayla’s sassy attitude, and Baine’s somewhat clumsy attempts to woo her. This is definitely a start of a series that I will be eagerly looking for more of in the future. It also makes me happy in the fact that I have a wealth of other books and series from this author that I can now go look up, and enjoy reading more of. ARC generously provided via Netgalley, and it was my absolute pleasure to provide the above honest review.

Burned by darkness is the first volume in the new paranormal series titled Dragons of Eternity, by Alexandra Ivy. It’s a spin-off of her Guardians of Eternity series, and the book tells Baine’s story, who made an appearance in Darkness avenged. The story is a novella and its goal is to introduce the world of the Dragons. Some questions remain at the end of the story: we don’t really know who the real villain is and we know that all the Dragons are not really nice. For example, Baine’s father is a horrible creature. And he’s still alive… Even if there is a bad guy in this novella, and even if the suspense is resolved, we don’t know if his actions will lead to a chain reaction. So, to be continued… But readers don’t have to be worried because we close the book with a satisfying HEA. The characters are very nice. Tayla and Baine already know each other, and when they met a few years ago, Tayla ran away, for some very good reasons that I will let you discover. And when Baine finally finds her, all he wants is that Tayla accepts her feelings for him. But, as often with Alexandra Ivy’s heroes, Baine goes about it the wrong way. As an alpha male, why to hesitate? LOL Tayla will have to be very determined and will have to often stand up to him. I loved the relationship between the heroes, I loved the few hot scenes well described, and I loved the end. We see Levet again with great pleasure. He now owns a matrimonial agency for paranormal creatures. LOL And by the way, when I closed the book, there was still some mystery about his implication in what happens to Tayla at the beginning of the book. To conclude, Burned by darkness is very good story by Alexandra Ivy. Again. I highly recommend its reading. And I can’t wait for her next book.

You might say Baine, the dragon, is a little possessive especially when it comes to his treasure. His greatest treasure disappeared 25 years ago and he would do anything to reclaim her. When Tayla shows up on his radar, Baine rushes to reclaim what is his...but he's not the only one searching for Tayla. Tayla has been on the run for years but now she is trying to put down some roots and start a baking business. Just when she thinks her dreams might start to come true, she finds herself at the mercy of an irresistible, dominate, bossy, alpha, dragon. When danger threatens Tayla, Baine's dragon might just raze the earth to keep her safe. There are a few plot directions that left us hanging or unexplained but over a purely fantastic read. Ivy, you had me at Levet and kept me with the explosive chemistry between Baine and Tayla. I do have a things for dragons, too! Win, Win all away around. Burned by Darkness is another sure fire, winning series from Alexandra Ivy. For Guardian fans, you'll understand my squeal when Levet made his appearance...the opening is there, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for more crossover characters. I received this ARC copy of Burned by Darkness from CrushStar Multimedia LLC in exchange for a honest review.
